Better Trees for Caucasus V6
Johnny Dioxin replied to Taz1004's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
I'm just downloading these to have a first look, but not sure I'll try them all as I initially intended - the downloads are at low ADSL transfer speeds so it takes a long time for a single 46MB file. Don't know where they are located - currently 77kbps on my fibre connection which should have them down in a few seconds. Shame, but still - thanks for doing them, heard nothing but good comments so this will be the first mod I've used since DCSW 2.5 (excepting aircraft) because default Caucasus in VR looks dire. -
Now where did we hear that before....?
-
Didn't know that - thanks.
-
Mine was enabled also - be able to check later In the meantime, is anyone else finding their framerate window is cut off in 2.9 OB - it's been like this for quite a while now:
-
After the latest 2.9 OB update, I just went for a test flight in the Caucasus in the A-10C. No combat, just navigation etc, but active AI units. From the moment of battery on until battery off I had a rock solid 120fps in the Index. Unfortunately, the in-sim framerate display is not working properly - it's been off screen since I updated to the OB a few months back, and you can't see fpsVR in screenshots - but I was completely gobsmacked. Res is 150% set in SteamVR - frametime for the GPU was around 6ms and around 4ms for the CPU. 1 single dropped frame in the 1 hour flight. I tried to take some photo's through the lens, but couldn't get it right - though you can see some of the data in the one attached. Sorry for the poor quality - nothing I can do.
-
I did think about it - but on past experience of dealing with Chinese support I am very reluctant. They are usually very keen, but their English is normally dire and they struggle to understand. Maybe they have someone who speaks the lingo... I'll do that - I haven't enabled it myself, but will check anyway.

12.01.2024 - Vulkan Progress | DCS Core | DCS Modules
Johnny Dioxin replied to Graphics's topic in Official Newsletters
I used dwVAC up until this year when I ran out of activations and now the site is closed along with the activation server (mainly due to Voice Attack's lower price). I also used it only for comms in DCS modules, though I used it for other things in Flaming Cliffs back when we didn't have more than the Ka50 and A-10C and I didn't have enough HOTAS buttons to cover all the actions. I had a separate profile for each DCS module, so wasn't an issue with different function keys. Of course for the dev implementing voice interaction it would be a non-issue as it would simply be part of making each new module. As for FPS type games - I also used to use it for things like Doom3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Sometimes I would press the wrong PTT button when online and give an instruction and my clan mates would be wondering what on earth I was on! They did find the notion really cool, though. -

Yep - something I've been on about for years now, and where imho all flight sims fall flat on their backsides. Voice control and interaction has been available to all for PC and PC gaming for over 10 years now, and an integral part of windows since Windows 7 iirc - I know it's extra work, but it's also the mutt's nuts. First flight sim to do it in the base sim is going to be talked about all over the 'net. -

I'm thinking it may be a good option for VR pilots - lower detail may equal better framerates, which equals better experience. -
At last someone else with this issue - I've had it for months, over two completely different PCs, but only with Pico 4 (I also use Quest 2 occasionally, and Index, but obviously not wirelessly) and through Virtual Desktop - it's a real PITA and has sometimes caused me to use Index instead of Pico in DCS. When I posted here and elsewhere about it and uploaded videos, no-one had any answer. When I went on VD Discord I had no luck - the guy who was "helping" was either being deliberately obstinate or didn't know the app very well and was no help at all and I gave up there. Shame you can no longer directly email Guy (afaik) as he has been very helpful in years past. This is definitely a VD thing, as it doesn't happen in other cases and I've had it happen in all flight sims - but not in other VR games like NMS etc and DCS is the worst of the lot. I can upload a video again if no-one has seen it, or if you would like one to use for reference in your own search for a solution.

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Johnny Dioxin replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Unfortunately can't order those, Miles - I didn't realise before, but they can't be shipped to the UK. I found some of the same on Amazon UK - but they seem borderline as far as size goes: https://www.amazon.co.uk/150mAh-Battery-Charger-SANROCK-Quadcopter/dp/B0B73VG215 quite expensive, too - even with the charger. Yours are 17x24x 5-6mm and those are 17x27x7mm. May be okay - I could always return them easily to Amazon, so I would try that if/when I need them. I'm already returning a set I'd bought from Amazon because they were slightly too big. (these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08NYD4XLR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details ) edit: Just trying to get it right for anyone in the UK looking to get new batteries- 3421 replies

Unfortunately, at 72fps my experience was worse, so I went back to the 36 (or 60 for my Index) and am happy with it. As you say, it's all relative and everyone likes it a certain way and there is no common one size fits all. When 2.1 was released I actually stopped flying for a long time because I couldn't get smooth enough performance on missions - was fine on my own, flying around, but as soon as anything kicked off it was down in the weeds. I tried going back to TrackIR but in combat sims I just wasn't able to enjoy it cos I felt closed-in, like in a tank looking through the portholes. Fortunately, ED have come a long way since then and even with my i5 9600k and 2080Ti I was finally able to enjoy VR flying in DCS again with 2.7. The Pico 4 was the icing, but only with Virtual Desktop - unfortunately now I have a different issue with that which has got me back on Index again!

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Johnny Dioxin replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh thanks for the info, Miles - totally unexpected. I have registered with the Discord channel but haven't had a proper look round, yet. Really look forward to having a go with this - hoping it will boost my experience in DCS World in the same way VR did in 2016. Happy new year to you, Sir!- 3421 replies

Can anyone please tell me the exact spec of the batteries? The type and capacity should be enough - read through to page 19 (of 135 on my browser) so still a lot to get through and it may be somewhere here, but I haven't got to it, yet! edit* is this the right one? https://thepihut.com/products/150mah-3-7v-lipo-battery I see Amazon do them, too - with more details and multi-buy offers: https://thepihut.com/products/150mah-3-7v-lipo-battery so if that's the right one, I reckon I'll get some in, pronto.- 3421 replies

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Johnny Dioxin replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thank you - I'm really looking forward to receiving my Point Control in a couple of days. Of course I'd prefer to just wait a little longer and have the new one - I added extra bits, too, just in case and with the long lead time - but with the way things have gone this year there's a high chance I may not even be able to use a HOTAS in 2 years, so the used one was a logical option to take. Up to now I've been using a POV hat to operate all the cockpit controls, with the inbuilt gaze control option - I only ever take my hand off the HOTAS to either have a drink or use the mouse for the controller UI (weird that, and that it's been around for so long - but IIRC it may have been fixed in a recent OB update). Left is LMB, right is RMB, up and down are 2 zoom levels and I use modifiers for the same POV for chat, menus etc. Been doing it that way since years, so it's going to be a big challenge remembering to use the Point Control instead!- 3421 replies

I would get the full 90fps or 120, depending on headset, in quiet zones, when at altitude or at aerodromes. Once things kicked off it would drop to the half rate by the ASW or equivalent, but would remain very solid with no stutters. After a recent 2.9 OB update (a couple of updates ago) I tested the P-47D and Mosquito at low altitude and got slight stuttering with both over dense tree areas and others were reporting the same. I don't know if that has been fixed in following updates. Of course, you need more oomph for the Crystal, so it may not be quite so good for you anyway.
-
I have the same as you - but I use mostly Pico 4, Index on occasion. I'll have to get back to you on the FPS as I've not flown since a couple of OB updates, but it was very smooth last time - think I was still getting 45fps with SSW. tbh I don't pay as much attention to the framerates as the frametime and how smooth it is - but I do keep some records now and then so I'll get back to you. I know it was 60fps in the Index. This with Pico 4 in the F-16 using Virtual Desktop...

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Johnny Dioxin replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Unfortunately this thread is very long now and finding any required info is a bit of a nightmare. I now think I know the difference between V1 and V2, but I do have a couple of questions: I'm buying used (I have ordered, but with over 2 years delivery time it's a long wait) and am concerned about battery durability. Any info on that? I have no issue fitting one if it's at all possible, as a radio tech I'm used to that sort of thing. How long ago was the V2 released? Regarding new purchase, though, is there any customs charge with delivery to UK? I expect to be paying the usual 20% VAT, but I've been hit with some high charges on previous overseas imports and need to be prepared Thanks for any info. edit: forgot - I probably have a different headset to the previous user (I have Pico 4) - will it make a big difference to the fitting or is it easy to just bodge something?- 3421 replies

Virpil Constellation Alpha joystick grips for sale….Updated
Johnny Dioxin replied to markturner1960's topic in For Sale
I'm checking point control (I have a rough idea but not enough to fully understand yet, so...) and will get back to you. edit: pm sent -
I had this recently - posted here about it, too. It just sorted itself out one time - no idea why or how it stopped starting VR and same why it decided to start in VR again - I changed nothing, but I did try lots of different things to no avail. The response on the forum I got was that it's nothing new. I remember having the same issue a year or two ago, as well.

The 4080 is plenty for DCS World with a Pico 4. I have both - bought them together end of last year and my DCS World v2.x VR experience has never been so good. Coupled with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 64GB of DDR5 - though it was also good with my previous i5-9600k and 32GB of DDR4 - just not as good as now

Announcing the F-4 Phantom for DCS World!

Indeed, I bought it a while ago - however it has not been released. I checked the article again last night to check I had my facts straight and they clearly state that the module was released. -
Announcing the F-4 Phantom for DCS World!
Johnny Dioxin replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Don't know if it's been mentioned, but last night I was reading the current PC Pilot, in which they said that Heatblur had announced the early access release of the F-4E phantom! At first I thought they had simply worded it wrong, by mistake, but no - they seemed to be implying that one could buy it now! Wonder if they'll clear that up in the next issue.... Of course, by then it may well be accurate!
