+1 - I switched from HD to 1440 a short while ago and didn't expect much, but the difference is very noticable. Especially stands out when I watch things like this (oh and DCS 2.9 runs smooth as silk in VR up to now - specs in sig):

Not sure about the stick dead zones - I had to put them in (usually never did) because my stick(s) was tripping the AP off in the A-10C. This was an issue with the G940 and my current VPC T50 CM2. That was with the 'softer' set-up, though - I just switched to the stiff springs and cams and have yet to test it, but I suspect I can ditch the dead zones for X/Y again now. Was baffling me for months, why the AP was constantly disabling itself! PS - as for the topic title, I think it's a total non-issue. Who is going to buy a plane without knowing anything about it (at this price, too) and then whinge that it isn't up to 21st century spec? No-one with any kind of credibility, that's for sure. -
I'm doing a start-up guide and have been through the tutorial mission, and the manual (and Chuck's guide for that matter) several times now and found that firstly they aren't consistent - different things, different order, which may not be that big an issue, but I also noticed that the start-up tutorial mission does not even mention the alternator switches. Not even a 'check' of them.

100%. I've raced in real race cars in the '80's and did reasonably well - won quite a few trophies. On a PC my racing is terrible. Always has been. I won one online race in over 20 years and these days I'm at the back of the field. IRL I didn't race by the numbers as many of my colleagues did - I raced using the things that are all missing on a PC. -
I just found this post and I take it from that, that it does indeed still work, even though it was made for 1.5 I'm sure I've seen people saying they can't complete the campaign due to bugs, but no idea if they were individual cases or not. Sorry O/T

For the life of me I can't remember his forum name - only his real name. He is French - he did all the French character's voices, I did all the different British voices and someone else did the one American character. It was a lot of fun and got me on to do voice work for a couple of other devs. Took up many hours but as I enjoyed it so much, it didn't matter to me. It was very nice to be given 'inside access' to guys in the dev team as well, and was very enjoyable talking to them on Skype about their work and upcoming projects at the time. Seems an age ago now. *just looked right back to 2016 Gazelle posts and slapping my head as i see his name! Really don't know if he's Fragger's brother, though.

Thank you - there were quite a few complaints, though. Didn't really bother me, but the guy who made the campaign got some flak, which riled me a bit. It was all a tongue-in-cheek thing.

these are the times I just chuckle and fire up DCS World 1.58 instead! -
Already done that as requested by Polychop and got lots of grief for it when the module was released! It was exactly what Polychop said they wanted, but people were complaining that "people don't talk that way any more!". Something to bear in mind btw you can also hear my wife in some DLC campaigns, doing ATC

I decided to go for the Constellation Alpha - it apparently has a short twist axis which may be better for me than a standard one. At least for DCS helicopters. I tried using an analogue PoV hat for rudder control before and didn't get on with it. I suppose I could use a modifier button to switch the stick between roll and yaw, like in Elite - but that would probably get me into trouble on occasion.
-
In fairness, once I mentioned it to him, he also offered it to me at no cost (I'd already bought it and he was one guy so I wasn't going to do that and refused a refund) and advised me how to make it so that it was how I wanted. He still provided us with a quality add-on. Don't forget this was also a few years ago. Had he not done it, there would be no VAICOM at all and we'd be stuck with our own basic voice commands which would probably be nowhere near as integral to the sim.
-
I spoke to Hollywood about this at the time of release. He said he had no idea about official procedures and terms, but was open to suggestion.

Thanks for the comments. I do have two twist sticks, but both are fairly basic and quite old (though still in good working condx). My HOTAS is Virpil T50 CM2, and I didn't know they did a twisting one, too - must take a look at that. It's been a very long time since I last used a twisting stick for helicopters - probably Gunship! I didn't think the DCS rotaries would be flyable with that type of controller, but it seems they can, then. I'll give it a go with one of my older sticks and if I get on okay I'll look at the VPC shop.
-
Great, thanks - was worried all that money was gone down the pan - and it means I can keep flying the rotaries. Time to get stuck into those manuals, then!
-
I am unable to fly helicopters any more due to health issues with knees & hips - I own the Apache since release but have never been able to fly it. Does George enable me to do the CP/G and just let him get on with all the flying, without me having to touch the pedals at all? That would be awesome. (edit - I know I have to direct him, that isn't an issue) Same goes for the Hind, really.

Hey, at least it can take-off and land on grass/unprepared surfaces...

All we then need is some British modules for authentic Telec scenarios. From what I read, the Tornado will be a Euro version (though it can of course fill the role) - we just need Razbam to get their finger out with that GR.7 that was supposed to be coming "in future" and some Warriors and Challengers and we're good to go If it goes as far as Granby territory, a Jaguar and Buccaneer would be top billing (along with aforementioned Tornado) - and buddy-lasing missions aplenty! Nice little list and a few years' work there.
-
I wouldn't say it's an entirely RL problem - the insane gamma/contrast issues in Caucasus (in VR) cause a lot of this problem, too.
-
If it doesn't work as you describe, it must be something peculiar to the device you are using. I've had rotary encoders on my last two HOTAS and both have worked just fine. I don't use "add combo" though - just double-click in the box for the assignment and then move the encoder. I

Sounds to me like your stick is over-sensitive and maybe you aren't being as careful with it as you maybe should in that situation? Try adjusting your profile for the stick in the controller axes section - less saturation and maybe a curve might not be a bad idea. Might like to just try the response curve first and see how you go. -
It doesn't seem to have gone that way. I haven't had this issue before - normally it's just DCS World starting in 2D as a worst case - but it is just coming up as a black screen and that's it. If I bring up the Task Manager I get the "Window out of focus" on the black screen - seems DCS "thinks" it's working fine. On one occasion (I tried multiple times) it did crash and I allowed the sending of the crash report. I tried to start a VR game after that and that started, but didn't respond at all. I then used the switcher to change openXR to the Oculus one (still using Pico 4) and lo and behold it worked. Strange, cos it was running through SteamVR! I have remembered I installed Barthek's terrain mod yesterday, so that may have something to do with it. I know it shouldn't, but i definitely recall reading a post about a similar black screen issue by somebody - so that's my next port of call.
-
Anyone know how to switch to Unity OpenXR for the Pico? Been unable to use DCS World since I switched to SteamVR a few days ago for an Index test. SteamVR lets you switch to its own OpenXR but doesn't give you any other option once you have. Oculus allows you to switch in its Home UI - but for some nuts reason, Pico doesn't. I found a nice runtime switcher, but Unity isn't on it https://github.com/WaGi-Coding/OpenXR-Runtime-Switcher edit: yes, I am normally using the Pico with VD and have that set up for OpenXR - but DCS doesn't seem to know what to do since switching off SteamVR OpenXR and all I get is a black screen.

Yeah - edited from previous post - the file will not be hosted at filehorst any more. It says on their blog (in German) that they are not allowing any more uploads - so if the file isn't there now, it won't be. Just for future reference
