  1. Okay, sounds good. I will definitely try to power the Rift from the Virtual Link as soon as I can get hold of an adapter.
  2. Interesting. I've thought about the USB port, and maybe I could benefit from using the Virtual Link port on the 2080 Ti instead. Atleast it can't hurt!
  3. Btw, the only real problem I experience now is a slight stutter/judder primarily raise and lower my head. It's not related to DCS, since I can see it on Oculus home screen too. Has anyone else experienced this. It's like the tracking is not 100% and is jumping a little sometims. The room is well lit btw.
  4. I checked the GPU usage in Windows while running DCS. It said 57-60%. Is that normal? What are you seeing?
  5. Yes, those settings work well for me too. I tried to untick MSAA and set shadows to low. Instead running PD on 1.6. Seems to work well too. Strangely enough the F-16 "Take off" quick start works alot better today. No idea why, since it barely worked on low settings yesterday.
  6. Seems my performance is about the same as this guys (and he's got a better CPU than I do).
  7. Thanks for your replies. I have tested some more. I clicked the "Low" graphics preset and set kept PD at 1.0. Everything looks like crap and in the Hornet over Batumi the FPS is fluctuating between 40-70 fps. That can't possibly be right? Should I delete the shaders and FXO cache (or what it's called)? I've read something about that before.
  8. Seems I have big problems. F-16C quick start mission "Takeoff" gives me about 30 fps, sometimes dipping to 25. That's with PD 1.0 and using "High" graphics preset. My system: 4790K CPU and RTX 2080 Ti. What the hell could be wrong?
  9. Btw, do you run with ASW auto or off? I have a 2080 Ti but suspect that I can't max out everything and expect to hold 80 fps. Is it best to lower the settings until I can hold 80 fps minimum, or run higher settings and accept som ASW activation?
  10. Just got my Rift S yesterday and managed to test a bit in DCS before it got too late. I'm sure it has been discussed before, but is there any real benefit to use both PD increase and MSAA? I had my PD at 1.7-2.0 and switched between no MSAA and 2x and 4x, but I couldn't really tell any big difference. Granted, this was only a very quick test before bed time (will test more tonight) but what is your experience?
  11. Some kind of subscription model will come sooner or later. Do you really think pushing out new modules will be a successful business model for all eternity? This is a niche market, and the time will come when new modules are not enough to sustain the company. It will come down to this: either some kind of subscription model is introduced, or the company will go bankrupt. I'll rather play DCS by subscription than not play it at all. The first stage will be the dynamic campaign. Or did you think you'd get it for free? The dynamic campaign in itself will make people a lot less likely to buy DLC campaigns, which means less profit for ED. Making the dynamic campaign subscription based is probably the only way to make it profitable.
  12. Thanks for all the replies! To answer one of the questions, yes, I already own a Warthog, and quite pleased with it. I went ahead and got the 2080 Ti. I'm sure the 2080 would have been sufficient right now, but the idea is to not have to upgrade when the 3000-series cards arrive. Going for the "Ti" will then save me money in the long run (having to sell a used card to buy a new one is never a good deal). But who knows, maybe Oculus will release a new headset in a year and my 2080 Ti will be too slow. However, I'm counting on that it will be enough. :)
  13. I just ordered a Rift S, and now I need a new graphics card. My current GTX 980 is just not enough. I'm debating whether I should go for the 2080 or 2080 Ti. The latter is extremely expensive, but is it cheaper in the long run? My reasoning is that the 2080 Ti could probably be enough to drive the next gen Oculus too. I'm thinking that the "Rift 2" will finally arrive with foveated rendering to keep the hardware requirements somewhat low (even if the resolution is bumped). If I buy a 2080 now and then need to upgrade again when the next gen headsets arrive (in 1-2 years) then the total cost will be atleast as much as a 2080 Ti. Of course, waiting for the 3000-series Nvidia cards would be the best, but frankly I'm tired of waiting. I want to jump into VR now. :)
  14. I've run the training mission for the M71 CCIP high drag bombs, and every time the boms fall a bit short. About half of the boms hit the row of vehicles. Is this a bug or is it just me?
  15. So, I decided to start playing DCS again after a break since about february. Also decided to start fresh with the new F-16. Said and done, the F-16 was purchased and setup for take-off. However, I was a little disappointed when I got it into the air. I'm sure it's pretty accurate already, but it just felt a bit sterile (for lack of a better word). Then I started to think about the F-14, read a bit here on the forum, and shortly after purchased that one too. And wow, what a difference! Already at full throttle down the runway the F-14 was more exciting than the F-16. It shakes and rumbles and just feels great. Once in the air there's just alot more sense of flying in the F-14. It moves more, and it's not just perfectly composed at all times, which makes it alot more enjoyable. I haven't had time to do much else than get a feel for her in the air, but I have a sense that it's going to be fun to learn this one!
  16. Total resolution for old Rift: 2160x1200. OLED screen. Total resolution for Rift S: 2560x1440. LCD screen. Not earth-shattering, but since it is LCD we get full RGB sub-pixel layout, which should translate to much better perceived resolution.
  17. Okay, I just hope that they include an explanation in the final manual. So we know under which circumstances the "LOFT" mode is better than "NORM".
  18. After testing the AIM-7 I wonder if "LOFT" mode works? In the Caucasus practice mission for the AIM-7 I immediately lock up a target with the missile in "NORM" mode, and soon get the blinking "SHOOT" message. I then switch to "LOFT" and it takes quite a while before I see the blinking "SHOOT". I thought the purpose of "LOFT" mode was increased range?
  19. I'm sure someone must know the answer to this. After all we have many members on here that know most about this aircraft by now.
  20. Yeah, I've already looked at that and it doesn't really make much more sense. What he says in the video is that once the TDC is slewed over the radar contact he presses the TDC button to perform STT and lock the target. This is what I do too, but it is not how it is described in the manual (see my OP). The way I see it the manual must be wrong in this instance. Regarding the OSB with "7F", "7M" or "7H". This is to cycle Sparrow type according to Wags. The problem is that only the label over the OSB changes, not the actual selected missile. I take it that this is not implemented yet. Only way I could actually cycle Sparrows was to hit weapon selector switch forward repeatedly.
  21. So I've been training on AIM-7 employment, and some questions arose. 1) The manual says: "The RADAR must be in Single Target Track (STT) mode in order to support guidance for an AIM-7. This can be done by pressing the Cage/Uncage button less than .8 seconds when there is an L&S target. Alternatively, you may press right on the Sensor Control switch when the RADAR is on the right DDI and the target TDC is already over the target on the RADAR." I have just slewed the TDC over the target on the radar, pressed TDC depress button and the target is locked up. The missile seems to guide just fine. On the top left on the radar screen it still says "RWS" though. Should I do something else (like described in the manual above) to enter STT mode? Am I already in STT mode? How can I tell? This seems very unclear right now. 2) I'm running the AIM-7 instant action mission on Caucasus. On the SMS page I can see that the aircraft is loaded with three different AIM-7s: M, F and H variants. Successive presses forward on the weapon selector switch changes which missile is selected. However, in the bottom left on the SMS page it says "7F" over one of the OSBs. Successive presses on this button changes to 7M and 7H and back again. What is the purpose of this button? I can already select a specific missile with the weapon select switch, so it seems to me that this button is not needed. Especially since it doesn't actually select another missile. So I can select the 7M with this OSB, but on the wingform the 7F is still the selected missile.
  22. Maybe it's just me, but I keep coming back to the A-10C. On paper the F-18 should take it: - It's a nicer looking aircraft (subjective, I know) - The cockpit looks alot nicer (at least for now) - It's MUCH faster - It's more maneuverable - It's good at both AG and AA - It does carrier ops Still, the A-10C obviously has something that the F-18 is missing. It's hard to define, but mostly (for me) I think it's about the cockpit. I just think that the A-10C cockpit is more fun to operate. It's got more switches, the MFDs have a better, more modern interface and the HOTAS workflow is better thought out. Plus, I think the A-10C feels better in the air than the F-18. Sure, the F-18 can pull nicer stunts, but the A-10C has a nicer, more weighty feel to it. How do you guys feel?
  23. An update to the A-10C cockpit is confirmed, so no need to doubt it. It was planned before the end of this year (if I understood correctly) but I guess that won't happen. Probably by spring.
  24. Maybe I'm just stupid but I really don't understand how this works. In the latest update there was supposed to be a fix for the sun halo in the canopy (among others), but it's still there. External texture updates were announced in several update notes but I still can't see any change. Maybe it's just me, but this update system is a bit hard to follow...
