  1. I'd be very curious to know why it isn't a feature anymore.
  2. ^^This! I'm surprised this thread didn't gain more traction tbh. I'm glad I searched the forum as I was about to start a new thread for this. I really hope a 'mission save state' function can implemented in the near future. I understand ED have a lot on their plate but basic functionality in this regard would surely not be too great an ask? I'm imagining a whole new breath of life into DCS allowing, as you say, more casual approaches to long events that unfold over many hours. Only with this function you can fly one mission>save>exit and come back to fly another mission with the impact of the previous mission flown being persistent. It would kinda form a basis of the all elusive 'dynamic campaign'. Wags, please hear us! Cheers.
  3. The X-55 looks so good and is well priced but there are two factors that mean I won't consider purchasing it. 1. Single Stage trigger. 2. No 4-way TDC. Also I've heard it can be quite unergonomic in terms of the hat switch placement on the stick and throttle.
  4. It's an F-15C in the top left of the pic but yeah the aircraft carrier location is going to cause some hype.
  5. Cheers!
  6. +1!
  7. I just try to build a mental picture from the comms. Typically you would be too busy to write down all the calls - it wouldn't be worth the time expense. Using mark points for threat calls is likely just to make your own targeting solutions more confusing. If you have time to place the TAD cursor over the threat location to help you visualise it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Paulca makes a good point and rule of thumb. However a good understanding of the mission brief and enemy order of battle is crucial. If there are hostile High Fast Flyers (HFF) like there are in a few of the A10 RF16-2 campaign missions, you want to start running for the friendly goalie caps while they are greater than 30NM away. Those Mig-25s and 31s are bloody quick!
  8. Don't forget you can request a 'BOGEY DOPE' which will give spur the AWACS to give you closest threat in BRAA format. Very helpful when your 'bucket is full'.
  9. This looks really good, some of my mates are still getting to grips with A10 systems and switchology so I cant wait to give this a go with them. Cheers!
  10. Nice! You can if you edit your first post > go advanced > change the title field and save.
  11. Not exactly hard-hitting journalism but an interesting look back on a CAS mission during OIF in 2007. [ame] [/ame]
  12. Hmm, maybe i'm experiencing a bug then because in ideal conditions (engaging rear armor from in range and having the GUN PAC on for 6-8 seconds before firing) it's still taking about 400 'hits' to kill. I'll upload some tacview logs later to demonstrate my issues.
  13. I've been flying civilian Helo Ops on the Nevada Map and quite frankly it is brilliant. Bullets don't need to be whizzing around to have a challenging experience in DCS which is a testament to the sim. The level of map detail truly makes up for the lack of expansiveness in the terrain. Probably the best helo simulator available thanks to BST. I used to be a mad keen FSXer flying everything from the PMDG airliners to choppers to the VRS Super Hornet. Haven't touched in it a couple years though. The only thing that I miss about FSX is the connection to VATSIM to interact with human ATC and other traffic. And of course the ability to fly anywhere in the world.
  14. Thanks for the mission StrongHarm, the RF audio chatter on FM is a really nice touch. Slightly OT: Does anyone know if ED will be taking a look at the effectiveness of the GAU-8 against tanks? Or perhaps the damage modelling? I recently did some testing and it requires ~400 hits from the GAU-8 to kill a T-72. RW they train to squirt 100 round bursts at MBTs and it is more than effective to disable/destroy them. Anybody else finding the same thing?
  15. For anyone interested here's an except from 'F-111 & EF-111 Units in Combat' - Peter E Davies, 2014. That talks about exactly what is shown in the Pave Tac pod imagery: Source: https://books.google.com.au/books?id=-I-EAwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false
  16. It is, BimC was referring to the fact that another aircraft hit their target while this crew's weapon was mid flight. Meaning they had to hastily lase another target at the last possible moment.
  17. In the soup: :badmood: Atop the soup:  Apache's gettin' work done: This guy briefly forgot how to 'Apache' but regained his composure and continued lobbing Hellfires:
  18. Could be a multitude of factors - this attack was during the opening hours of the air campaign which would have been understandably pretty hectic. The air war planners would probably build some redundancy into the targeting list by assigning the same target to two different flights, one as their primary target and one as their secondary target to hit if they had ordnance remaining. Looks like these guys were very unfortunate that both their TOTs were almost identical!
  19. Well depending on the level of damage to your engine you can either attempt to relight it or secure it (shut down). In most cases in DCS A-10 if your engine gets hit it's best to secure the engine by following the checklists. That leaves you with a single engine (S/E) approach and landing which is a tricky task and takes practice to perfect. It would be a good idea to do some training in good weather conditions where you drop one engine to idle thrust to get a feel for single engine handling characteristics. The A-10C checklists give some good guidance for safely accomplishing single engine approach/landings. I use the v476th checklists for the A-10 which are publicly available and perfect for the sim. Point 10 states to review S/E go around (EF-37) and I'm not sure what manual that is referencing right now. Maybe someone else can chime in there? The below checklist for a S/E go around is a bit simplistic but covers the basics. If you do attempt a s/e approach, demonstrate good airmanship by salvaging a bad approach early and taking it around. Minimum s/e control speed can be >140KIAS depending on weight and drag of your current config - that means a late missed approach can be fatal (as you experienced). This is because the thrust asymmetry while at slower speeds will result in a yawing and secondary rolling motion that the flight controls are unable to counteract. During my multi engine training in Beechcraft Duchess' you were committed to a single engine landing below 400ft AGL, no doubt a similar limit would apply to the A10. Hope that helps.
  20. These oddities aren't just for the Honeybadger, check out this M2000 flying around with only one wing. Pretty impressive for a delta-winged aircraft - especially doing only 138kts at some points!
  21. Almost wish that wasn't an april fools joke, sounds like a lot of fun.
