Thanks for the heads up!

Could not agree more! Coincidentally I just re-downloaded a couple of his missions yesterday to dive into - I hope they haven't been broken by the DCS updates too much. The replayability that Joyride worked into his missions is first class!

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
DUSTY replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks mate; i7-4770, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 660, Win 7. FPS does take a hit but I haven't been running a counter it would be upwards of 30FPS though as it isn't noticeably shuddery. In an effort to keep my posts 'OT', here's a pic from yesterday when myself and two mates jumped into the AEF161 free flight server. Had a bunch of fun so cheers to those guys for hosting an AU based dedicated server. If any of you guys see this, we will endeavour to jump on your TS server next time and say g'day. -
+1 PR:BF2 is one of the all time greatest! Still incredibly popular for such an old engine, I feel strongly that other developers can learn something from them.

DCS World User Mods "WHAT IF" SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!!

Amazing pics to everyone, and Starway - Hornet pics look stunning! Are those GBU-12 skins a mod? -
I love using TARS/Aries but you're right, a native DCS solution would be ideal. Then some liberal use of kick/ban for people who don't use it - hah! :music_whistling:

Creating a training mission for my buddies and I as we get back into DCS after a long break. Got a little carried away 'jazzing' up our forward deployed location with thanks to Ranger79s object pack... -
That was a cool vid Octuplefire! Cool, but really painful to watch some of those guys not giving way!

Hi Sobek, could I please get my forum username changed from 'F/A 18F' to '|Dusty|' ? Many thanks

Fair call. I don't think WIB is a total write-off though. There seems to be a decent balance throughout their articles as well as an amazing breath of topics and contributors. The article linked in my previous post shows support for the F-35 whereas there are plenty of other contributors at WIB who are quite outspoken in their disapproval of the aircraft. And yes, it's a great headline, but you did actually read the whole article right?

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/don-t-think-the-f-35-can-fight-it-does-in-this-realistic-war-game-fc10706ba9f4 Another quite interesting article discussing the F-35s capabilities from 'War is Boring'. The author plays out scenarios using CMANO discussed in the 'other vechicle sim news' forum.

Sweet! Many thanks.

Another budget thread (Digital Storm)
DUSTY replied to Captain Spears's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Absolutely it will. Although in my (not very expert) opinion it seems like they've got a pretty pricey GPU in that setup and have skimped a little on the CPU. I would be interested to see what others say. P.S. welcome to the forum! -
Yes! Incorporating MP stats would be great as well.

Nice shots Eightball and Snoopy (love the -135 skin)! I thought I'd check out the new ship wake effects for myself. And this thread is lacking some Hornet porn so here goes: Looking forward to DCS level Carrier ops one day. I would relish the challenge of landing a Hornet with PFM on a DCS carrier. -
F-15E pilot recommended A-10 for this fight

Well there is the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) although that's 250lbs not 50. Surely they would easily integrate onto unmanned platforms down the track. -
+1 Neil, well said. Tony, if you aren't already in one, have you considered joining a virtual squadron? I can understand playing DCS as a single player could eventually get repetitive. However if you put yourself out there and find a squadron, the joys of flying any of the DCS modules as a group will add a whole new dimension to your experience of the DCS World.

Oh look everyone, a totally unqualified statement! Seems like the 4cent guys are having a direct dig at the A-10. I heard the Hog was pretty terrible in Desert Storm, OIF and OEF too. :smilewink:

Not when you've got eyesight like me! :D Thank god for optometrists, contact lenses and aviator sunglasses. Oh and for Targeting pods, laser designation, zoomed optics and thermal imaging also I guess.

Ahh OAF and the A-10A - here's a great extract from that book which talks about the Warthog FAC(A) pilots and how they had to operate. We're truly spoilt with our TAD and datalink, it's amazing what they had to do in that time and environment. After an A-10 AFAC located a lucrative target (Which was quite a feat in itself), he had to develop the data necessary for the FAC-to-fighter brief (9-line). To do so, while flying the aircraft, he would have to use a sequence similar to the following: 1. Find the general target area on a large-scale map (1:250) that had markings for each of the smaller-scale maps (1:50). 2. Determine which 1:50 to use. 3. Find the correct 1:50 among the stack of 16 such maps. (Imagine all that crammed in your helmet bag which itself is crammed in the cockpit somewhere.) 4. Study the terrain, roads, forests, power lines, and houses marked on the map to match the target area on the ground. 5. Read the coordinates, in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) format, from the scale on the map. 6. Write these coordinates on the inside of the A-10’s canopy in grease pencil. 7. Go back to the 1:50, follow the contour lines to determine the target elevation in meters, and write that on the canopy. 8. Use the Inertial Navigation System to convert the UTM coordinates to latitude and longitude, and write those on the canopy. 9. Use the HUD to convert the elevation from meters to feet, and write that on the canopy. 10. Finally, read the target information to the incoming fighters over the radio.
