Yeah, here is my account of Mission 8: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2719578&postcount=42 And my tacview logs: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6e94t7av6vfzkpv/Tacview-20160322-184646-DCS.txt.rar?dl=0

I often read the US Navy safety magazine 'Approach' and over the years there have been many many stories where one engine has had to be shut down for one reason or another. As they always say, 'the Hornet flies great on one engine' and it gets their aircrew home to the boat.

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)

Supporting a jolly flight today in the RF campaign. Jolly on deck. Here you can see Jolly flight lifting with the survivor and the final resting place of two BMP3s (top right) that were attempting to capture them. Plus a random tanker shot: -
Hey Steve and Wags, I'm not normally one for the SP campaigns but for the last week my internet has been reduced to dial-up speeds so I thought I'd finally give the RF campaign a shot. I'm really glad I did, most of all I have thoroughly enjoyed the story and scenario that has intertwined these campaign missions. Especially the small details like IRBIS SHELBY, what a treat! The incremental difficulty of each mission has been well balanced. At first I was concerned the campaign was aimed at newer pilots after I systematically tore apart a defenseless SPH battalion in one pass. A couple of flawless sorties later and I clearly got complacent. A foxbat nailed me post VUL while I was busy expending the last of my ordnance on some remaining targets. Luckily I was able to limp towards the friendly side of the FEBA and eject. Also very fortunate the mission had already been deemed a success and I was able to progress - phew! Ever since I have been foregoing the package comm freq in favour of AWACS channel after pushing. Fast forward to MSN8 (CSAR) and things took a slight turn for the bizarre. If you're not yet up to Mission 8 I suggest you tune out here! ====SPOILERS BELOW==== Also I have a tacview log of the mission, if anyone is interested to check it out just let me know. Anyway, I've still had a great time with this campaign so far. It'll be a shame when it is complete. I look forward hugely to both your work on the campaigns for the Hornet/SOH.

DCS World 1.5 - UH-1H Formation Flight Ends In Disaster
DUSTY replied to Eight Ball's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Awesome video, really enjoyed it. Looks like lead set a nice vortex ring state trap with that steep approach to the rooftop. Nowhere to go with the structure directly ahead of the aircraft. -
Integrated voice comm in open MP sessions would also help to bring the community closer together. I appreciate that many open MP servers have attached TS details but if I want to communicate with my wingmen properly as well as be a part of the main friendly package comm it usually turns to junk if everyone is in the same TS channel. Smart mission designers and DS hosts would only need to organise a simple communication plan just like already exists for tuning tankers and AWACS freqs. Only you can now hear actual pilots talk instead of just AI voices.

:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: The look on the Frog pilot's face seems accurate. ======================= Somehow we both RTB Nellis with two fully operational Hueys. -
Thanks Flagrum Conclusion is that I was being dumb! I had received both NTTR serials but had completely forgotten that I needed to assign one of those serials to my friends account, which I have now done. Should be working fine but I'll wait to check when my friend next logs into his account.

Wow, disregard! Just found this link: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=116362 I am amazed at how I can open multiple tabs and then completely disregard them haha. Mods please delete this thread if necessary.

Here's my situation: I bought two copies of the A-10C beta back in 2010, one for me and one for a friend who had no money at the time. I purchased a 2nd copy on my account and sent him the serial key. The problem is that it appears by doing this he cannot access the free Nevada associated with that serial number when he is logged into his account. This is presumably because it was purchased while logged into my account and the serials are tied to the account? Is there something I'm missing/is there a way to rectify this? Cheers

All the images over the past couple of pages are the best looking Caucasus textures I've ever seen. Looks amazing, it's almost enough to get me out of Nevada for a while. -

Hey Vedexent. Unfortunately there aren't really any all-encompassing references for 'Military ATC' to be found on the web. This is a pretty complex topic you've gotten yourself into and I can empathise with you as many years ago I set out to teach myself about this topic for the virtual squadron I was with. Man oh man did I open a can of worms! You mention a few different concepts in your posts but because you asked 'What is Magic doing' I'm going to assume you're interested in the role of Command and Control (C2) assets like AWACS/AEW&C and not Air Traffic Control in the sense of controlling aircraft around airfields and in civil controlled airspace. Also you mention 'Forward Air Control' which typically (but not always) refers to air-to-ground weapons employment for CAS missions. Air Traffic Control or ATC is a different subject but is equally as complex. It's very achievable within DCS with tools like LotATC but depending on how realistic you want to be it's probably a topic for another time. The best thing I can think to show you are two documents I wrote back in 2011. I'm hesitant to share these because since then I've learned so much more on the subject and they're very rudimentary. They are however aimed at people who are completely new to the concept of military aviation C2 so I'll attach them anyway. I apologise for the fact that the format of the documents is not brilliant - I haven't looked at these for ages and I'm cringing at some of the language I used. The first .pdf is a Communications SOP document that was for all aircrew. The second was a powerpoint document designed to compliment a verbal briefing for those wanting to become controllers. Please also note that these documents were aimed at a different sim platform to DCS. As a result there is the odd reference to something that is not relevant to DCS. Please ask me any questions on the documents as I'd be happy to clarify. If you want to link us to the specific recordings you were listening to I'd also be able to decipher for you if you're curious. AFPD 2-11 - AEW&C COMMS SOP.pdf Controller Briefing Slides.pdf

Wish my Hawg's TGP IR looked as good as that! -
This is great, thank you!

Would anyone be willing to create a combat MEDEVAC style mission on the NTTR featuring UH-1/Mi-8 with random generated tasks? Some inspiration perhaps: [ame] [/ame]

ILS Flight Director Influenced by Course Selector

Thanks for the comprehensive post with screens Boomerang. I'm going to have a look at this when I get some time because I remember shooting the ILS/DME into Vaz many times in the past. -

Qualify your statement - why doesn't it work? I'm an IFR rated pilot and these procedures have worked for me in the sim. Agreed! Some of the negative and patronizing rhetoric used by multiple members in the Bugs forum is extremely disappointing. -
I do the same and it's definitely a valid means of obtaining a valid altimeter setting. Real world this is done at non-towered aerodromes when a weather report is not available. In the real world (and talking generic A-10 flying here) the QNH setting would be obtained prior to departure from the Automated Terminal Information System or ATIS which is a recorded message that can tuned on a VHF radio and is specific to each airport. It's updated by the tower controller whenever the weather changes. En-route, if cruising above the transition altitude (read more here: http://www.skybrary.aero/index.php/Transition_Altitude/Level) you would set a standard altimeter setting of 1013hPa. If cruising below transition the 'area' QNH would be provided by ATC or if ATC isn't available the forecast QNH would be used - this is obtained from your pre-flight weather briefing. On approach to a towered airport, ATC would give you the 'local' QNH of the airfield when they clear you to descend below the transition layer. For example: "Tusk11, descend to 4000, QNH 1022". That's a brief overview of how it's done IRL, hope that helps.
-
I assume they would be deviations from ISA (International Standard Atmosphere) of 1013.2 hPa.
-
+1 +1 These additions would absolutely raise the quality of this sim.

Awesome work Mirknir! Really enjoyed the video!

I've never used a 'sectional' in DCS - 'Sectional' charts are typically VFR navigation charts with airspace on them and for DCS purposes I find them a bit redundant. I've found the real world Tactical Pilotage Charts F-4D and F-4C to be the most useful for my DCS needs, you can find them online and there is even a topic somewhere here on the ED forums which has a few of them in .jpg format (can find it later if you like?). I have the TPCs on my iPad though as I find all the systems on the A-10C mean I never have to make a mark on a paper chart. I have only once needed to use it for DR navigation after getting battle damage and losing my wingman to ground fire. Other than that I have my trusty kneeboard, paper pad and a couple of pencils for scribbling info throughout a mission. Hope that helps Bill.

What were your questions? Lots of knowledgeable folks on here who could probably help.
