Okay so after further testing I have come to the conclusion that pairing the "Search and Engage in Zone" advanced action with the CAP tasking is bugged. In my last test with one AI CAP set to task: CAP advanced action: search then engage in zone - the F14s are very passive and only engage with AIM-9s AFTER they have been engaged by the enemy Mig29s - There is no other advanced waypoint action selected and no restrictive ROE. in the pic below you can see that the Migs have fired first with AA10s before the tomcats engage with AIM9s despite the fact that they have AIM54s/7Ms onboard and a friendly AWACS for support. I have had much better luck if I set the F14s to task: FIGHTER SWEEP with the advanced action, 'search then engage in zone' and it now appears to work as advertised. Mission attached showing the results if anyone is interested: If you run this mission you can observe Enfield11 which is set to CAP and the strange behaviour that ensues whereas Springfield11 is set to Fighter Sweep and they hold their cap station and engage hostile aircraft within the set zone MUCH better. Can i please get some help with the 'Search then Engage in Zone' logic? I am trying to set up a simple mission with two F-14A CAP stations where the F-14s only engage threats that enter into the prescribed zone but I am having a lot of trouble getting it to work as designed. Currently the Tomcats just stay in their orbit and do not engage hostile fighters that enter into their search zone. The aircraft have the mission or 'CAP' but i have removed the CAP option from the advanced waypoint actions and the 'search then engage in zone' is the only action. There is a friendly AWACS airborne that definitely detects the threat aircraft which adds to my confusion as to why the Tomcat's cannot/will not engage the aircraft that enter their search/engagement zone. I'm wondering if I need to add a specific ROE or additional action to achieve my goal. I have searched the forums for assistance but all i could find was this thread from 2014 where the conclusion is that it seems this advanced waypoint action is bugged. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123290&page=2 I have attached the mission and would appreciate if anyone could lend me assistance. Thanks for your reply Ian! Sadly I did fly another mission afterwards and I have no track file or TEMP file. I think I will have to accept that this mission is corrupted beyond repair. Thanks anyway.

I've been working on a mission for the past two days and just attempted to save the file. I then checked the 'Unit list' option and noticed that every unit had been renamed 'directkeyxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' or something along those lines. Then an error box came up and the mission editor closed. I not cannot re-open the file (it doesn't appear in the mission editor list) and it is now 1kb size on disc. I fear it has become corrupted and I have lost hours and hours of work. Can anyone assist me?

VMFA(AW)-242 has inherited some single seat Hornets over the years. Would be amazing if anyone could recreate this for the DCS lot20 Hornet.

Persian Nights Turn Hot - MP F/A-18C Mission Due to a significant lack of Hornet combat missions I'm posting a mission that is totally unpolished but still a lot of fun. I didn't intend on posting this but it has been so enjoyable I'd like to share it with the community. The briefing could do with a bit of fleshing out but this ought to get you started. Quick Features/Mission Overview: - Surface and air threats are randomized on each mission start to keep the threat picture different each time. - Multiple flights with separate targets to choose from for replayability. - No scripting used so far so adding other aircraft/units will not break mission functionality. - Difficulty is randomized but this mission would suit 2 players up to 6 (Also possible to succeed as a singleton). - Feel free to edit and use this mission as you please. - Please bear in mind that there is no overbearing scripting so when you strike targets there is no 'mission complete' or any voice overs etc. I may add that sort of thing later but for the time being the missions are pretty cut and dry - fly the mission to the brief and you will be the judge of your own performance. Persian Nights Turn Hot June 1991 The United States and its allies are at War with Iran. Day 1 of hostilities between the US and Iran has commenced. Overnight strategic strikes against Iranian IADS and major CCC nodes have been successful. As day breaks over the Persian gulf the next wave of strikes is about to commence. Join VMFA-533 spinning up at Al Dhafra in support of 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (1MEF) and it's impending assault on Iran. BLUE TASK SITUATION: 0600L Iranian CCC and IADS have been dealt a significant blow after comprehensive cruise missile strikes launched from US Navy warships and USAF aircraft in the early hours of the morning. VMFA-533 has received the ATO for the first day of strikes within the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) AOR. The first Phase of the air war will involve further strikes on strategic CCC nodes, airbases, ammunition storage facilities and high value Iranian Army assets. ATO: DODGE1 (Strike): - Strike Kish Island EWR site (Primary). - Strike Ammunition storage facility at WP5 (Secondary). DODGE2 (Strike): - Strike Dehong CCC Centre. UZI1 (Deep Strike): - Strike Lar Airbase. Primary targets are ammunition storage facilities and any parked strike aircraft. COLT1 (BAI): - Intedict Iranian BM-30 MRL vehicles within area defined by WP3-6. THREATS: - IRIAF Mig21s armed with R-60 (IR) and R-13M (IR) are known to be CAPing in the AO. - Fixed SA-3 sites not hit in initial strikes may be present within AO. - Mobile SA-6 and 8 are active within AO. ASSETS: AWACS - DARKSTAR (E3A) 251.000 TANKERS - TEXACO (KC130) 251.000 MIG SWEEP - ENFIELD11 (4xF15C) SEAD - SPRINGFIELD21 (2xF18C) Please leave feedback on how you found this mission. I will continue to update it as time allows - many improvements to be made. Persian Nights Turn Hot.miz

Thank you, but that was not the case in this instance - the difference between box and diamond was and is very easily discernible. :) I concur with you 100%.

Can anyone please tell me whether an air defense group without an EW search radar can 'talk' to another air defense group which does have a search radar and use the data from the other groups radar to more efficiently engage an air unit? So for example could an SA-3 group with its Search radar destroyed (then automatically use another search radar from a neighboring SA-3 for its own SA on distant threats outside the range of the Tracking radar? Just curious is all. Thanks

Okay I guess i need some clarification as to the EA implementation of IFF in the Hornet. Can someone point me in the right direction? The only documentation I've seen is in the changelog and it states "Added very basic IFF" I thought the basic nature of the early access IFF was pretty black and white. Aircraft on the red coalition would display as a diamond and on the blue would display as a square and it was that simple. Proper IFF is understood to be in the works.

+1 I have experienced the same. Often known friendlies are displayed as Hostile. In my last flight the friendly tanker was shown as a hostile when there were definitely no hostile aircraft even loaded in the mission. Next time it happens I'll submit a log file.

Whoops, was able to force the update by going Start Menu > Eagle Dynamics > Update DCS World Open Beta.
-
I'm currently unable to update to the latest Open Beta patch. Running the DCS_updater application in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin has not worked either. Help appreciated! autoupdate_log.txt

What's the current consensus as to whether these weapons are working effectively in the EA Hornet? Are they bugged to an extent that they are not worth using until patched?

+1 Can't even set an IL-76 to 'start-up from ramp' at Bandar Abbass :(

Not quite, sorry. 'Apex' is just the name of a visual reference point at the rail overpass near Arrolime mine about 9nm north of Nellis. It's used for some of the visual arrivals and departures and a handy feature to get yourself lined up on the initial to rwy21.
-
Ah, i see, thanks! I thought I saw 'Apex' but I was hoping there was another major highway out there that I hadn't stumbled upon yet.
-
Nice vid mate! Curious, which highway is that?
