1.5.7 and "Joysticks without spring and FFB" trim mode
Holton181 replied to foxtheancient's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Happens the best of us ;-) I'm basically a helicopter exclusive pilot with the Viggen as the only exception. And I don't use a FFB. So I can offer little help. Good luck though. -

False one, though... sorry... -
When (if!) it comes any news, you will certainly hear about it.

1.5.7 and "Joysticks without spring and FFB" trim mode
Holton181 replied to foxtheancient's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's not as some other aircraft where you adjust your trim with the hat. You simply use the trim button to tell the aircraft where you want the relaxed (i.e. no spring forces) position of your cyclic to be, and to send controller data to the autopilot. To adjust, you do it with your controllers and retrim. How to actually perform the trim has been debated endlessly since the dawn of Black Shark 1. You can find numerous threads about different methods you can try, and ther is always people promoting one or the other as "the best", but in the end it's all about personal preferences. -

** DCS AJS-37 Development Update + Manual RC1 Release **
Holton181 replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
EDIT: Disregard! I just simply don't understand how things work. I should shut up... -
And the sound in cockpit doesn't change either if I recall correctly.

Auto Hover and Turn on target not working properly...
Holton181 replied to Hoggorm's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think it was said to be done with clicking, as in frequently clicking while slowly moving the controls. But I see how it could be interpreted as one single click after full adjustment. I always used to use the "pres-n-hold" method, worked like a charm, intill not that long ago. I have a HOTAS without springs or detent on my cyclic and that allows me to adjust the friction, so I can leave the stick in any configuration. When they introduced the "without spring and FFB" trimmer in settings. I tested it and liked it. At first I I continued with that "pres-n-hold", but without knowing I switched my behavior. One day I just realized I had started to click the button freneticaly, like 2-3 times a second. And it actually worked better in most situations. But I think it necessitates a controller as described above and that particular setting. For hard maneuvering though, I hold the button (it's basically the same as FD). I think you can also click the AP emergency off button (whatever it's called) to disable it all together until you're safe. -
Perfectly understand, I'm not going to bug you about bugs, just take them as they are, hopefully my machine can handle them. Well, I've heard about discord before, newer understood what it is. Created an account a few minutes ago. It was freaking me out! No idé what I was doing or how things work! But finally realized it's some kind of chatting environment. No thanks, not for me. Deleted my account. Call me old-fashioned...

Mi-8 Cold Start transfer pumps failure
Holton181 replied to Holton181's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Thanks for the reminder. Alphaonesix is a priceless resource for us. Now I finally will have use for his incredible contributions. -
@deadlyfishes I wonder if there is a possibility to get the 1.5 version, if you still have it? I still consider DCS 1.5.7 my main install even if I have 2.5.3 OB. I run all campaigns and serious missions on 1.5.7 and would like to do it with this one too. Since DCS 1.5 isn't supported any longer, I don't expect the 1.5 version of this mission to be either. In the old 1.5 tread it is also mentioned the version "Northern Region". Is that another one or just another name for the same thing?

Terranav auto fixing even if radar is OFF?

The radar altimeter, yes. The ground radar, no. I think. -
Mi-8 Cold Start transfer pumps failure
Holton181 replied to Holton181's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Indeed it was, thanks guys! No need to bother about the track. I have owned the Hip for several years and love to just fly her, but never flown any real missions exep some of the training ones, just some self-made crousing or slingload ones with full fuel load. Never encountered this. Never bothered about fuel. But it was kind of confusing that the alarm states the pumps malfunctioning, instead of bingo fuel in the main tanks. Now I know, so will start keep an eye on the fuel gauge ones in a while. I doo in the other module I own, but there the gauge is located at the pilot seat. The Hip definitely is a MC vessel. -
Way to Fix the Anti-Collision Light for Ka-50 and others...
Holton181 replied to JOKERACTS's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, but I haven't seen anything about any other ED module (like Mi-8 or Huey). Also this issue should have been considered ans fixed for all internal ED modules BEFORE making Deferred Shading mandatory (i.e. removing the possibility to disable it). I perfectly would understand the move to make it mandatory as a way of forcing third party developers that lags behind, if they themselves had taken actions to adopt their own modules. But doing it this way is just bad business model and customer care. -
The Shark is a sniper, not a fighter jet, be as far away from your targets for as long as possible with as much cover possibilities as possible. You shouldn't really be over the actual combat area in the first place, you shouldn't need to do maneuvering while targeting.

Mi-8 Cold Start transfer pumps failure
Holton181 replied to Holton181's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I don't really remember, but in total I think it was about 10 on the outer scale on the gauge when starting the mission, 4 on the inner for the header tank. So the pumps stop and one gets the alerts when the main tanks are empty? Never caught my mind I might have run dry in the main tanks, will have a look. Sounds highly possible. I got the emergency fuel warning before I landed an ended the mission, so didn't empty the header tank all the way. -
Actually... "In Finland and Sweden, the dates of the seasons are not based on the calendar at all, but on temperatures. Here, spring officially begins when the average temperature rises above 0 °C (32 °F). This means that the seasons within each county start and end on different dates, depending on the regions and their climate." https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/aboutseasons.html It's the same with fall. Spring and fall here in Sweden last between average (over a couple of days) 0 °C (32 °F)° and average 10 °C (50 °F). Average above is summer, below winter. So technically we are both right (I actually didn't know about that other starange and illogical definition before, obviously you all have to adopt to us and the Finns!). But again, the average Heatblur team member is a Swede, no matter the position of the earth around the sun, or temperature ;-) ... It feels really strange to think we are still having fall, looking out the window... ...and happy birthday in advance, by the way :-)

Hi, I'm about to learn cold start of the Hip after many, many years in my possession. I have run the Cold Start missions for both Nevada and Caucasus several times with the manual on my second screen. Most of these flights has ended as soon I'm airborne. Now today when doing the Caucasus version again I continued to fly for some time, when suddenly I got a warning of transfer pumps failure, both of them at the same time. At that moment I was playing around trying to arm my weapons. What went wrong? Did I do something without knowing? I was fumbling around quit much, so no surprise if I did, but I haven't seen anything in the replay. That's why I ask you for . The mission has no random failures set. I tried to turn off and on power supplies including the APU and backup generator. Of course the pumps as well. I attach the trk (in a divided rar), but mind you, it's lengthy. As I said I'm doing it reading the manual at the same time. When about to lift off I also tried to do a running nose wheel takeoff as described in the manual (failed) and when finally airborne I adjusted the Gama and tried to remember how to arm my weapons and and what my related hotas assignments was. The failure is happening quite in the end, a while after passing over a smaller lake. Also, since it might affect how the replay goes, my trimmer mode was reset to Default for some reason (I usually have the no FFB and spring option). And my flying is ugly, had too much in my head except actually flying... Is that so? Then it would be 21st of September! Were I live, the first snow generally fall in the late September, early October. Outside now is a for the season thin snow cover of about 40cm (16in), this week we had some lukewarm -21deg C (-6F). The sun went down the horizon for the last time 2018 last Sunday, will hopefully be back some day in 2019. The snowmobile will be put in the shed sometime in early May. ... Did I mention I'm a fellow-countryman to the majority of the Heatblure team? No, this post didn't really add much to the conversation...

Why Dubai? How ED decides on which map to make.
Holton181 replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS 2.9
And a lot of promotional capital exist there, wouldn't be surprised some of it was dropped in ED:s pockets... Tinfoil hats on! -
Yes, remembering that, the fee weekend event at the end of September, but the only free content was PG map, Hornet and Su-33. Would have been a golden opportunity to have a helicopter in it too (maybe not the Shark since it's a bit to broken at the moment to be representable). But it's one weekend during the entire life of DCS (ED for that matter) I believe. Would be happy to be proven wrong on this last statement though. If they did it more often, like twice a year or more, and with at least one helicopter each time, then it for sure would be good marketing (of course cycling the aircrafts each event). Giving newly registered customers (even not yet paying ones) free access to all flyable modules for a limited time, say a week since first registration, would be good too.

Already known and fixed internally by the team, will be in the next OB update.
-
Well, I perfectly understand the complexity argument why this might be a bad, stupid or even retarded idea. But then again, we already have a free jet and a free WW2 plane, two out of three general aircraft types in DCS. Why not add one for the third and last one and complete the collection of simplified marketing modules? Since there is no "limited time/limited feature set" demo mode avaliable for any paid module I actually believe it would be a good idea for ED. I believe there is a lot of dedicated fixed wings pilots out there that think they never will pay for a rotorcraft but rather save for other fixed wing stuff, and therefore will never get the opportunity to feel how it's like to fly rotorcrafts, even if they actually would like it if they did (just recently I read a testimonial here on these forums from one of these guys, was offered by a friend to try the Huey I think it was, reluctantly accepted the offer thinking nothing fun could come out of it, but after being surprised how hard it was to even keep airborne, and a lot of tries and instructions from the friend he was totally sold, whent buying it himself). With a free trainer with sufficiently good FM but without clickable cockpit and simple systems, anyone curious about flight sims could get the chance to make real "informed decisions" where to put their money to begin with, and the dedicated fixed wing pilots would be given the opportunity to try something they wouldn't if being forced to pay (high prices if only for testing). High probability the amount of "multi discipline" pilots would increase substantially and hence more sales (at the time being, four extra modules for those newly enlightened fixed wings). But this thread was unfortunately posted in the wrong place. Should definitely been posted in the DCS wishlist forum. Has nothing to do with Polychop.

I would like to add some pictures if it might help the team. They are taken from the same mission above, except I increased the altitude from 100m AGL to 200m AGL. In all pictures I have increased the gain to max using keyboard (no axis assigned), range is 15km, TAM is on. Elevation untouched, weapon mode SJÖ Elevation untouched, weapon mode AKAN Elevation adjusted as above, weapon mode AKAN Everything is consistent in the sense going back and forth between these settings always generates the same images. But what I find interesting is the difference between untouched/SJÖ and adjusted/AKAN. I would expect them to be the same basically. They look quite different, and adjusting the elevation in untouched/SJÖ down moves the "radar return arc" closer (quite expected) and up while in SJÖ makes the image go blank. No way to make untouched/SJÖ to look similar to adjusted/AKAN. BUT, by adjusting the elevation slightly further down in AKAN one can make it look similar to untouched/SJÖ. Not consistent here. Any how, I look forward to whatever the team decides to do about it.
