A-10A or A-10C? I can't get mavs to fire at air targets in the 10C, even when they've successfully locked on to the enemy plane.
-
Tanks tougher in 1.5.2 ? A10C weaker ?
Nerd1000 replied to Phantom_Mark's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
My experience is that the A-10C is pretty resistant to missiles (at least small ones like AIM-9 or MANPADS) but very quickly gets shredded by guns. Doesn't help that all the russian APCs are crack shots with their 30mm. -
Are there units from the 1950s to fight with and against?
Nerd1000 replied to cmorris975's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
There are also period ground assets like the T-55, BMP-1 and ZU-23. -
I can usually kill an A-10 with two R-60Ms (one for each engine :D). Seems very odd that a attack with 3 R-60s would fail to bring down the Mirage. Interestingly, the MiG goes the other way as DMs are concerned. A single hit from even the weakest missiles (such as MANPADS) usually not only wrecks the engine but totals the rest of the airframe too.

What weapons? Cluster munitions and to a lesser degree unguided rockets are notorious for causing framerate drops. The problem occurs because of the large number of explosion effects on impact.
-
The Charlie is also more resistant to countermeasures.
-
If that is the issue you should probably be hearing 'Bang' or 'Poof' noises from the engine, accompanied by a sudden loss of RPM.
-
Make sure you've switched on the fuel boost pumps. Also make sure that you aren't pushing negative G, as doing so causes the fuel to go to the tops of the tanks where it can't be pumped to the engine (there is a small feeder tank that allows for short periods of negative G. Once it empties the engine will flame out).
-
Why would you want that?

Improved vision doesn't help all that much. The problem is that AI controlled helis don't have hydraulics, instruments or weapon control systems. As a result they are able to fight at 100% effectiveness unless they take critical damage to structure, engines or pilot. Two direct Vikhr hits to a Mi-24 often won't even slow it down, and AI Ka-50s have little difficulty fighting after one. What I find particularly galling is that Ka-50s will still use the gun in gimballing mode (and perhaps the vikhrs as well) after their Shkval has been shot off.

People who have flown the 1O9 and the P51
Nerd1000 replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
The Buchon is based on the G-version airframe (IIRC, the G-2). -
They spread a lot, but much more important is the limited impulse of the rocket engine. The heavier the warhead, the shorter the distance the rocket will fly. You can really see this if you fly the Ka-50 and switch the ballistics selector to the setting for S-8KOM while firing the S-8OFP2. The rockets will land significantly below the pipper at normal firing ranges, to the point where the target will be well outside the spread of rockets.
-
Perhaps a limitation on air-breathing engines? Missiles can hit higher speeds, but they use rockets and are thus not subject to ram drag.
-
Those doubled up pylons weigh you down and induce more drag than they're worth, especially if you're concerned with flying long distances. I never load more than 4 missiles, typically 2x R-3R and 2x R-60M. Edit: on that topic, how does the F-5 compare to the MiG when it comes to range? It seems to have much larger droptanks.
-
Bet I can do it in 16m.

Pitch and yaw changes while hovering are generally okay so long as you do not exceed the gimbal limits of the Shkval. Performing a turn, climb or dive that significantly moves you away from your flight path at the time of launch will often cause the missile to fly out of the guidance beam and go dumb. In general, slow changes to altitude or heading are okay so long as they aren't too large, while fast changes (such as evasive maneuvers) will cause loss of guidance. If you launch while flying forward its best to keep flying towards the target until impact. Thankfully the high speed of the missile means that you usually don't need to wait too long.

The S-24A's 120kg warhead seems to produce a larger explosion than a FAB-250. Make of that what you will, but it is IMO the best A2G weapon the MiG has unless you're attacking ships that lack point defense.
-
Hmm, okay. I've had similar crashes with RBK-250s and dumb rockets, but those crashes may have been unrelated. For now I'll avoid employing cluster munitions in general.
-
Yes. The Integrity check re-downloaded 4 files, but this did not resolve the issue. The problem seems to be at its worst when you use cluster munitions, but that might just be because they can kill a lot of vehicles at once. The logs were collected after using a CBU-97 against some tightly packed tanks. I just tried to replicate that, and found that the chance of a crash seems heavily related to the number of vehicles destroyed. When I killed 3 tanks with a CBU, no crash. When I killed 8 tanks, I got a crash.
-
Destroying some ground units (The T-90 is one example, but the bug has occurred with other units as well- I'm not entirely sure which ones) causes my game to CTD. This does not occur with every instance of that vehicle- I've watched several tanks explode before the crash occurred, and while it occurs in both Single player and Multiplayer missions it never crashes other players in MP servers. I've attached the contents of my logs folder logs.zip

You got very, very lucky with that MiG at 5:00 on the first video. If he'd had a R-60 or better luck with guns you would have bought it for sure. I think that little clip also demonstrates a big advantage of the mirage in close combat, namely its excellent roll rate. I bet you could shake most attackers with a rolling scissors, assuming of course your foe is too close for an effective missile shot.
-
If the seeker is pointing at the target aircraft those two events happen at the same time, or very close to it (can an aircraft occlude a chaff bundle? It seems doubtful that the devs would bother modelling that sort of thing).
-
Are you implying that the game uses the RNG to decide whether the missile is spoofed at the moment of chaff launching from the target, and then if the spoof roll is successful commands the missile to fly towards a randomly selected chaff cloud?
-
To clarify, this is against just one enemy AI, correct? The AI does cheat while using missiles in several ways. Two I've noticed are that they can get a radar lock the instant you're inside the gimbal limits of their radar, and they can lock and fire rear-aspect only heatseekers like the R-3S in head-on passes.

No joke mod is required because the US air force did in fact deploy a nuclear tipped air to air missile, the AIM-26 Falcon. Even more alarmingly, the AIM-26 is a WVR only weapon! One hopes that the pilots of the F-102s that carried the things were issued with a good pair of sunglasses...
