  1. ...bit confused. Did you mean keep your hook in the landing configuration? Normally after a bolter, I'll remain in the pattern (up BRC, turn downwind at interval, 600', onspeed), and not touch any of my gear/flaps/hook again until trapped on deck. Regards, Curveball VFA-113 STINGERS #302
  2. I just want to not only thank you for bringing this issue up but especially for spelling "brakes" correctly!
  3. No curves for me. Saitek X52, sidestick desk chair configuration. I try to fly with my forearms resting on the armrests of my office chair, to which the X52 HOTAS system is attached, and use fingertips to finesse both stick and throttle. Works a treat. Regards, Curveball VFA-113 STINGERS #302
  4. Once I've dropped ordnance, I've found it's fairly evident the Hornet is out of trim. It's been easy so far to bump in a couple ticks of aileron, and that levels her out. But just as Sea Fox mentions, that's the only time in normal flight that I'll touch the trim. However, when coming into the break over the carrier, I'll: Flop - Roll into 3g break turn Chop - Throttle to idle Boards - Speedbrake full extend Drop - Gear & Flaps passing below 250kn, check Tailhook down Boards - Speedbrake retract Trim Trim Trim - On-speed AOA amber donut Properly done, then from the 180 abeam the LSO platform to trapped in the wires on deck, I don't touch the trim again until I unfold my wings at the catapault. From there I use T/O trim half flaps for the cat shot. Climbing to 600' pattern altitude, I drop my flaps to full, drop the hook, and Trim, trim, trim to onspeed AOA amber donut. I'll turn downwind then at my interval (assuming others are in the CVN pattern), and not have to trim again until after the next cat shot. Hope that helps. Regards, Curveball VFA-113 STINGERS #302
  5. When I'm doing the Case I VFR pattern, I don't get needles until I'm about to roll out on course behind the ship at around 300 feet above the water.
  6. If you want the course line to show up on the HSI, don't forget to activate the "CSEL" box. Bottom button on the right column of your MPCD. ICLS won't show up until you're within around a few degrees of on course, and close to glideslope. Case III, you may not see needles until about 6nm, 1200 ft, and more or less pointed down the approach path.

  8. nothing, once you've mastered the basics of landing on a relatively stable moving carrier!
  9. I keep a wireless Logitech trackball mouse just beside my Saitek X52 joystick. I assigned my HOTAS mouse wheel button as "Right Mouse Click", and the little nubbin is Mouse X and Y. The little thumb button next to that is "Left Mouse Click". I've enabled "Use Mouse" in the DCS VR Settings In this manner, I can either use the Touch controllers, or either of the mice under each hand, or a combination of all of them. Works well, adds a bit of immersion, even though it's not optimal. Will keep this until Oculus or a third party modder can come up with Left and Right mouse click emulators on the Touch controllers.
  10. Arrgh. Just typed up an entire tutorial. Took over an hour. Stupid forums lost all the work I did. P-51D DCS Controls Tutorial Images That link is the only thing I could salvage... Arrrrrggghhh. Hope that set of screenshots helps. pm me if you have trouble...

  12. I did notice you had a decal on the vertical fin that read "USAF" and "NAVY" on the tailboom... Were those just placeholders? Most of your pictures seem to be of the SH-60B, but I'd really love to see a F or H variant, as they were the ones actually attached to CVWs (Carrier Aircraft Wings).
  13. Bellisima!
  14. My First Fleet Aircraft! As a nugget Naval Aviator, I did my first fleet tour flying the SH-3H with HS-14 "CHARGERS" in CVW-2 attached onboard USS RANGER. I did two deployments as a CHARGER in Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Restore Hope (Somalia). I was the HAC on the first US Navy helo to touch down in Mogadishu...
  15. 1/3 of the way through the download, had to use HTTP method as torrent stuck at 0.0%. Doing this, btw, on a road trip with my 4g smartphone hooked to my laptop...
  16. The Spit just feels good. Dora is a bit of a bore. Mustang is like a '68 Chevelle with drag-race slicks and little bitty skinny front wheels. I love them all, but haven't spent the allowance on a 109. Because Hornet.
  17. Yep, I have the same issue...
  18. 52! ...you'd think I'd have learned to act my age by now.
  19. This is why we need USN CVN Helos in DCS: CDR Krotchety USN, HS-11 Dragonslayer :pilotfly:

  20. Oh, yes, nearly forgot. Once you have successfully loaded your profile from the DCS 1.5 Saved Games Config folder, you'll have to reassign or add any of the "Modifier" keystrokes/button presses to match the 2.0 control binding with the 1.5 you just imported. Make absolutely certain to name the modifiers EXACTLY as you had them in 1.5.
  21. copy control bindings Yes! first, click in the column of the device you wish to map, and clear the whole column. Then, with any field highlighted within that column, click on the "load profile" tab above the table. Navigate to your C:/..../Users/*your computer profile name*/Saved Games/DCS World 1.5 Beta/Config/Input/Joystick (or Keyboard, Mouse, TrackIR, etc.) Find your latest profile within that device, and accept. Send me a pm if you have any issues. I've been doing that for the last year and a half, with very little problem.
  22. VMFA 251 was in our Airwing (CVW-1) during my last operational deployment with HS-11 Dragonslayers embarked in USS ENTERPRISE. Both of our squadrons would get together on liberty, and we always had a great time! Loved deploying with our Devil Dog Brothers. Semper Fi, CDRKrotchetyUSN http://www.vfa-113.com / #304
  23. Wrong variant, at least for any USN CVNs. LAMPS did not deploy on carriers, just small-boys. Carrier Air Wings included the HS squadrons, equipped with SH-60F (ASW w/ hover-dipping sonar AQS-13E, Mk46, Mk50, & Mk54 ASW/ASUW torpedos) and HH-60H (CSAR, NSW, MAS maritime CAS, AGM-114 Hellfire & FLIR targeting system). Just sayin'. H-60B were kind of outdated by the 90s...
  24. Me Too When making multiplayer missions, no skins show up in the load-out screen dropbox. When making singleplayer missions, only three (us army, us marines1, us marines2) show up.
  25. Cool, but they're not Navy (ie germane to Straits of Hormuz), nor are they equipped with Hellfires...
