I'm using Standard Trim (and rudder trimming because I use my racing pedals). So as soon as I pressed the trim button on the stick, I release pedals and stick. I'm not aware of the CH products, but IMO the Mi-8 is easier to hover than e.g. the Huey. Especially due to the slow speed indicators. If the CH controls are not that "accurate" (?) then you might indeed consider a slight curvature. Or if the joystick isn't accurate arond the central position, then maybe even a slight dead zone. I always had troubles to hover/sling load with the Huey, but I have no problem with the Mi-8. Just make sure you get close to a hover. Trim the stick. Check your instruments. Still going slightly forward? Slightly move the stick back and trim again, and so on until you're in a complete (or almost complete hover). From then on, only slightly push/pull the stick shortly to give the chopper the "direction". It should stop in the hover again. I always have to slightly adjust the collective. Also make sure that you're facing toward the wind. HTH.

DCS 1.5.7.9411.361 and 1.5.7.8899.335 I only noticed it in mission 8 (Rotation) so far. The altitude meter often jumps to 30m (or even stays there) when you're doing sling load (when you have cargo on the hook). See video: It's just a guess, but maybe the altitude meter thinks the cargo is the ground? The rope is 25m, so this is close to what the altitude meter is showing.

There's a performance issue in the mission 8 (Rotation) of the Oilfield Campaign (Mi-8MTV2 when you want to hook up the cargo. As soon as the cargo is on the hook, fps drops and stays low for about 5 minutes. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3240694&postcount=11 No matter which cargo you want to hook - as soon as it's on the hook, it becomes unplayable for several minutes. This happened in 1.5.7.9411.361 and 1.57.8899.335 The sling loads in the Oilfield Campaign in mission 4 and 6 worked fine. System: Intel Core i7-6700K, 4.00 GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 16 GB RAM Asus Maximus Viii Ranger Mobo resolution: 2560x1440

Ok, I just gave up on it and I'll report it as bug in the 1.5 forum under Performance problems. The active pause only helps when hooking the cargo. But when you have the same performance problem when arriving at the LZ and you enable active pause during flight, the cargo will ignore the active pause...so it will swing forward and you'll lose the cargo. I also noticed a strange problem with the altitude meter which I'll also report in the 1.5 forum. It doesn't work properly once you have the cargo hooked.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not disappointed; I still like the campaign ;-) So you think it's a 1.5.7 bug? I'm just wondering if other people have the same issue with this mission with 1.5.7. I only have this problem in mission 8 and not in the other sling load missions (4 and 6) - and always as soon as I hook up the cargo. After 5 minutes, fps are back to normal (see video). It's always like this (I can reproduce the problem). So maybe somebody else with 1.5.7 could try mission 8? If it's a 1.5.7 bug, I'll either have to revert to 1.5.6 or use active pause until fps are back to normal (or skip this mission). Of course the cargo broke when I was using active pause again to record the 2nd part of the video...must be Murphy's law. From what Simicro said, this shall be a known problem, so no need to report the problem again? Or might this video be helpful for investigation of the problem?

[DCS: Mi-8MTV2] More Visible Fan Blades
rge75 replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
It's the placebo effect....it feels too cold now when I'm flying the Hip in DCS ;-) Especially since we always fly in the Caucasus miuntains.... Edit: Just as a side note - when I first commented on it, I only saw the screenshots. Now, in game and rotating, mod#2 looks perfect to me. -
[DCS: Mi-8MTV2] More Visible Fan Blades
rge75 replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Just installed the mod. It's really better when they're more visible :-) I'm just wondering if it would possible to get the fan blades even more visible like in this video: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3237700&postcount=14 You can actually notice the blades while the fan is spinning. -
Just curious...where do you have to pay $4 per quarter? I didn't have to pay anything.

BTW, I just wanted to refly mission 8 (Rotation) but I noticed that I'm now at mission 9 (Zigzag) even though the Mi-8 crashed in the Rotation mission. Maybe you should add an additional trigger, so that delivering one cargo but not landing at the base doesn't give you enough points to proceed in the campaign? Looks like I have to edit the lua now to go back a mission ;-) Edit: Well, in my case it seems mission 8 relatet (but it of course can be a 1.5.7 problem). As soon as the cargo is on the hook, the fps drops dramatically for a while until I'm away from the base. Then, I deliver the cargo, want to get the next one - cargo hooked...fps drop again. The mission is almost unplayable for me this way. I had no problem with sling load in mission 4 and 6 (no fps drop).
-
Oh, ok...so that's a pretty bad bug in that case. Concerning the performance; I had no issues with the Spring Tension campaign or the first 6 missions in the Oilfield Campaign. That's why I thought it might be related to this mission. I'll see when I'll try it agan. If all fails, then I still have the option to revert to 1.5.6

Something very strange happened to me during this mission. I deployed the tank with no problem and went for the wood. When I hooked the cargo, I was watching outside the window to check if the cargo is already in the air. While slowly ascending, I suddenly saw something falling down - it was my whole rear tail. The helo of course crashed after that. I have no idea why the Mi-8 broke apart. The oil tower wasn't there anymore and nothing else. IMO it also can't have been the other helo flying around because I saw him flying into the other direction. Oh well, looks like I have to start it over after 5/4h of flying :( BTW, did anybody else had performance issues on this mission every now and then? Most of the time it ran smooth, but there were moments when fps dropped extremely. I only had this so far in the Gazelle campaign when many AI soldiers/objects were moving around.

Review of the Oilfield Campaign and Interview of the Developer
rge75 replied to Simicro's topic in Oilfield Campaign
You're right, but saying that missions vary or are similiar isn't a big spoiler. Of course it's cooler when you don't know the story yet, but if it's good, then you'll anyway replay it. It's like with a movie. Some movies, you can watch several times. Thanks for the hint about the fuel (I only check it when starting and then always think that it will be enough for the mission). However, I'm pretty sure I could simply land at the airport and ask for refueling, but I guess I'll figure it out. Actually I'm not yet sure if I'll have the endurance to complete all the tasks. Well, maybe with some time compression between the flights... -
Review of the Oilfield Campaign and Interview of the Developer
rge75 replied to Simicro's topic in Oilfield Campaign
How else could it have been....you're talking of routine and repeating tasks and then you play mission 7 which is different (I liked it btw). I'm curious too start mission 8 because it said 80 minutes or up to 2.5h if you do all the transportation tasks :-o This might be a challenge... -
Thanks for the info. They both have some nice stuff. It's always a matter of money - or "how much money do you want to spend for your hobby" ;-) But if you have to spend some hundred dollar for the Warthog and some hundred dollars for the mounts, then you can already start thinking of getting the Puma controller set. However, those desk mounts are interesting.

If it's still the same like the version I downloaded quite a while ago - install it using JSGME. If you didn't use JSGME so far: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607

Oh, ok. DCS itself didn't give me a message that I damaged the cargo. But who knows, maybe it happened when I hooked the cargo and maybe I just oversaw the message at this time. Edit: I just checked my record from that mission. There was no "cargo dammaged" message (but some russian chatter). I was watching outside the window and the tank hit the bus - but I think the bus had no collision detection because the tank went through the bus. At least good to know that it should be possible. Thanks for the info. So I'll find out on my 2nd run with DCS 2.5. The good thing was that I was anyway able to finish the mission.
-
Just curious - the "cargo got broken" text - this is "by design". Or in other words, no matter how "nice" you deploy the cargo, it will always break, right? I mean, the tank sotly kissed the ground for sure (I was watching out of the windows observing the tank when unhooking it) and the DCS engine didn't say anything like "Cargo damaged". So it's just a story element and it's not possible to drop it without damage?

Review of the Oilfield Campaign and Interview of the Developer
rge75 replied to Simicro's topic in Oilfield Campaign
If some people are still undecided whether to get the DLC or not... just get it ;-) Seriously, since there aren't that many videos of the campaigns around, I decided to upload one from mission 5. The first 12 minutes show the mentioned ritual (if you've read Simicro's excellent review). The remaining 13 minutes are mission 5 related and may contain spoilers. Keep in mind that "just watching a video" often is less interesting that actually playing the game. Or in other words, just "flying straight" in the sim still means checking the instruments and stuff like this. The video might not be that interesting for people who already played the campaign. On the other hand, it may give you an impression of how I play the sim. And well, you should at least check out the "how to not do a landing part" at 19:09 till 19:52.... that was close. Another thing that was not mentioned - don't play those missions if you're in a hurry. Take your time. The nice thing is that the mission briefing tells you the estimated time it will take to complete the mission (without using time compression). And like with the Argo campaign, flying this campaign for sure improved some of my skills (I'm getting better and better at sling load with the Mi-8). Enough said...I have to prepare for mission 7 ;-) Edit: Video should work now (it was set to private instead of public, sorry) -
Full Review of the Argo Campaign and Interview of the Developer
rge75 replied to Simicro's topic in UH-1H Argo Campaign
This shows how much time it takes to release it with no or almost no bugs. A good testing for sure is important, especially because people have different play styles. I'm sure most people who played this campaign are looking forward for your next project. 6 months...well, we should get the next DLC campaign soon in that case ;-) Edit: BTW, another interesting question (not just about this campaign) would be if they sell well. When you check in this forum, it seems like we're only a small group. But I suppose there are many more players who simply don't participate in this forum. -
You mean where to download the mod? It seems like it's no more on the DCS page. However, you can find it easily if you google for DCS Patos black Huey
-
That's pretty cool. I'm simply not that much of a craftsman to do such things. I simply have my cheap TM controller/Hotas on the desk along with the Logitech G25 steering wheel (the console of the shifter gives me many additional buttons). Doesn't look great but it's functional.
-
Oh, sorry...I didn't watch the thread carefully enough. I meant the setup of Elysian Angel with the Puma controls. The Warthog is something I still consider buying (actually I'm using TM T-Flight Hotas X) and I'd also remove or replace the spring. An extension might make sense. I'm just wondering if you have to mount the Worthag on the floor if you use an extension? Or does it have enough stand? Even tough a controller like the Puma would be awesome for helo, I wonder about the space it needs. And where to place the other controls in case you also wants to fly a jet every now and then (the F-14 might be of interest to me). If I'd be super rich, I'd probably simply have a big room with 4 places (working/gaming PC, helo cockpit, jet cockpit, racing cockpit) ;-) But this won't happen. Looks like we went pretty off-topic now... ;-)

The video is interesting. The guy did a nice hover where it seemed like he didn't move even one inch at all. I'm also curious to see the setup of fargo007 - we need a picture ;-) Maybe "difficult to land" is the wrong term. I agree, overall it's even easier to land BUT less forgiving if you make a mistake. You don't watch your VSI for a short moment and it's below -5m/s... good luck catching it up from vortex. It's possible though. I'm actually at a video from Mission 5 where I almost lost the hip...catched it up a few meters before the ground. BTW, Belsimtek has to change/fix the animation of the fan ;-) They look a lot cooler in the real video! They seem to turn slower.

Let me know once this happens....
