Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Haha, good point. But seriously, there's no way to make the time window bigger (better location)? So it's really hit the AAA or it's over? Thanks for pointing out the pdf. I didn't notice that there's a detailed campaign pdf in the doc folder before you mentioned it. Yeah, my flying time with the Gazelle isn't that high yet, but I thought the best way to learn it is to simply do the campaign. BTW, for the flight below 10m - do you use altitude hold autopilot or not? I almost felt more confortable without the autopilot because if you make a direction change, the Gazelle anyway might go up a few meters and with the autopilot on, it will stay on the new altitude which might be above 10m. -
Just failed for the 7th or 8th time. I manage to get to the observation point (which is WP9 and not WP8 as written in the mission briefing - had to open the miz to find that out because I never found the convoy on WP8) most of the time. So in my last attempt, I finally found the correct road and took the shot. It was said to take out the radio truck first and then the AA. But isn't the AA the bigger thread? Anyway, for whatever reason my first shot anyway missed and soon after, the convoy was "out of sight". And there's the problem. If I go closer or higher, the AA of course then starts firing at me and there's no way to me to give a proper shot anymore. So what's the correct approach to achieve this mission? From the ambush point, you only have sight to a small part of the road (unless you go higher which seems no option). And once I'd get after that point - how to navigate back? You can only save 9 WP. Do I have to manually enter the new ones or do you navigate on sight and with the kneeboard?

Thank you, I just finished it in my 4th attempt. I'm not sure if the helicopters were shot down or not. I was slightly concerned when the M2 disappeared from the radar - so I thought the Mirage might have been shot down. Anyway, I stayed low and flew quick. As soon as an A showed up on the RWR, I turned almost 180° (it showed up from the East, side, so doing more than 90° was ok and still showed him my side, but the other one). and took an alternate route. In the last part, I had an A East and West of me and I simply flew at high speed through there. I noticed some shots at me but they didn't hit me. So I'm up to mission 4 now ;-)

Assassination (Huey Mission in Nevada)
rge75 replied to DarkCrow's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks, in that case I took off too early. But aside that, I really like the idea/plot of the mission. -
I was only shot 3 times so far, so I still have 2 attempts ;-) I just noticed that I mixed up something. I didn't meant "Shilka" in my previous post but the helicopters. So far, I haven't been taken down by the Shilka, but 3 times by the helicopters. The RWR showed the thread, so I turned by 180° and managed to avoid the shots. But I still had to fly north...and I did not see a way to bypass the helicopter. In the end, he brought me down. But I'll give it another try tomorrow.
-
How to avoid them though? I need to head north, but there is a Shilka. It doesn't seem like I can really avoid him. I'd probably have to head East forever to fly around him. Or will they be taken out after a while?

Assassination (Huey Mission in Nevada)
rge75 replied to DarkCrow's topic in User Created Missions General
Just finished the mission - well, sort of ;-) Overall, enjoyable - and the whole mission feels like you're part of something big. There were a few moments where I was confused though. So here's some constructive critism: Sometimes it would have been nice to have some more triggers and text/voices what to do. I know, the briefing was very detailed, but english isn't the native language of everybody ;-) Even though I thought I understood everything, I did the mission "wrong" in the end. Just as an example - when I first flew toward the factory, I was not sure whether to land now or to follow the other choppers. Well, after reading the briefing again and again, I noticed that I did it wrong. I first landed at the factory and deployed the team. So the factory was demolished before taking out Yak-40. I then landed again because I thought I have to re-board the team. But this never happened. So I flew to the airport and noticed that it's up to board the "other team". There again, I landed and wasn't sure if it was correct. So I just waited until some cars arrived and I noticed "ok, I'm right now". Flying south, it took me a while to find the correct spot. At least I knew I'm close to it when they started firing at me. But then again, I deployed the team on the roof-top but wasn't sure if I have to wait or to take off. Maybe I anyway messed up the triggers because the factory was already destroyed. When nobody was shooting, I took off and headed to the factory again (no idea of Yak-40 was destroyed or not). Since the factory was already destroyed, I thought I now have to head home using FM 4000. This lead me to nowhere though (somewhere above a lake). That was the point when I exited. So officially, not accomplished, inofficially "Mission completed" but not in the correct order. Last but not least, what I also didn't get was the thing with the 250 MHz frequency. So maybe I missed something more there. So like I said, overall enjoyble and interesting, but sometimes not fully clear to me what to do. -
Battle of Yocca Forest (UH-1H Campaign)
rge75 replied to DarkCrow's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks, I already downloaded it and checked out the pdf briefing. It looks interesting and difficult. I'll most probably report in the corresponding thread once I finished it (or if I struggle too often). Huey missions are always welcome. -

It doesn't look like Nevada though? ;-) I just checked and I had Complete_upuaut_Mods and Ranger79s Mod Pack 2.4.1 enabled in JSGME, so I have no idea why it didnt' show up. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion of the Assassination mission. I found it on the forum and I'll give it a try. -
Thank you both for the helpful reply. I'll give it a try again tomorrow.

I'm pretty new to the Gazelle, so forgive me if it's maybe a stupid question I read through Chuck's guide and I watched some tutorial videos on youtube, but I'm still a newbye (have many hours on the Huey though). I'm unsure about mission 3 and failed twice so far. I'm not 100% sure what I'm supposed to do. So let me explain what I did so far: When I'm at waypoint 3 (observation point), I'm looking for the enemy tanks. They're too far away to attack which means I leave my observation point and fly closer to WP4. Once close enough, I fire my 4 rockets. Here, I'm not sure about the camera mode selector. I use Pil (Pilote/Manned) to move the camera. But I never understood the Ass (Asservi/locked) mode. Shouldn't it follow the target if I use this? Or in other words, how do I attack moving targets. Do I really have to manually move the camera to stay on the moving target while the rocket is in the air? And is it needed to use the lasing button first? Or is this just to see how far away the target is? Anyway, once I fired my 4 rockets, I use the radio and tell the Appache to RTB for rearming. Once there, things get messed up and if I understood the commands correctly, I have to fall back to the "base" from mission 1? They call about the danger of the enemy aircraft - and I noticed that twice when I was shot down ;-) One question about the radar (DRAX 33 Radar Warning Receiver) - am I an easier target when I have the radar turned on? Should it be turned off while flying back? How do I avoid being detected? Low flight at all costs? So hopefully some of the more experienced pilots can lead me to the right path for this mission.

Battle of Yocca Forest (UH-1H Campaign)
rge75 replied to DarkCrow's topic in User Created Missions General
After over a year, I re-tried this mission again. I simply wasn't able to do it with a year (not enough skills/practice to land in the forest). Looks like I improved my hovering and landing skills over time :-) I must say, my landing was not that impressive like in your video. In other words, I went into a hover first and landed carefully. There was no cell tower when I approached LZ2 though. Does it need a mod? Anyway, it was still possible to do the mission. Just wondering if you're still working on the campaign or if the project has been abandoned? -
So you left out Janes USNF? ;-) Well, times, graphics and physics really changed a lot and I'm really looking forward to the release of this module.

I'm not quite sure if I've got the point. It's not like I'm not gonna play or not enjoying the Gazelle. It's just that the Huey seems more "what I prefer". It would probably be like comparing the Spitfire to the F-15. But yeah, maybe it's too early to judge on it. I might have a round 3h in the Gazelle so far and maybe 200 - 300 in the Huey. It's just a complete different experience IMO. The Gazelle seems to "fly by its own" toward the waypoint. Not many corrections needed. Maybe adjusting the trim. But the Gazelle is a lot more sensitive when I have to change the correction. It may go up a lot because of the speed loss in a corner. IMO I have to do a lot more work with the collective with the Gazelle. Coldn't I simply start with 20% fuel? Thanks for the hint with the fuel pump. I'm not yet that experienced to know all those little secrets.

Thanks for the info. I didn't inform myself that much yet because I only "really" flew the Huey so far. But I've bought the Spitfire and the Normandy modules, so I'm looking forward for the WW2 content.
-
Just finished the first mission of the campaign. It's really a complete different flying than with the Huey. Search and Destroy isn't bad, so I think I'll enjoy the campaign. But the Huey will remain my big love ;-)

Ah nice. Hopefully they will also add the Heinkel He 111 later on.

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC
rge75 replied to gregzagk's topic in UH-1H Argo Campaign
Nice stats. Mine don't look that great after finishing the campaign. It says "Missions Flow: 70", "Deaths in Campaign: 22" and "Success rate 61", The high death rate comes from mission 8 and 12 ;-) Anyway, it was a great campaign and definitively worth buying. No serious bugs, interesting story, very different tasks under very different conditions. Before buying, I was concerned that it might be too difficult to me, but (aside the two mentioned very difficult missions), it felt right and achievable. Some missions were a bit "easy", but they lived from the story and the events. So it was never boring. Hopefully there will follow more Huey campaigns from Greg. Personally, I'd like to see a further campaign at Nevada, because I think it offers some good possibilities/scenarios. And with the release of the Normandy map, we'd have another option for yet another campaign. But I'll also take another Kaukasus campaign. As long as it's the Huey - count me in. With that said, also a big Thank you to Greg and the team from my side. -
Just finished the mission. Didn't have problems with your first mentioned point. 2nd point 3rd point 4th point - I didn't notice that. And an additional note - there's a slight typo at the beginning of the mission. Spear: Spear1 at start upt procedure. I suppose it should be start up (w/o the t).
-
Again only a very minor mistake in the pdf briefing (Mission 14). Nothing serious. In paragraph 2 the last sentence is: "Luckily we able to eliminate them all". Shouldn't it be "Luckily we WERE able..."? As for the trigger events, I never encountered any problems in the last 13 missions - well done :-) Edit: Also in mission 14:
-
Since it was mission 8 and not 10, you still have 7 missions to go ;-) So no reason to be sad yet.
-
In a way, I'm glad there's no save feature. Otherwise I'd probably save all the time and I would have already finished the campaign. But I suppose sort of a checkpoint after 5 attempts could be nice. Well, if you only play the mission and not the campaign, you could simply watch the replay right before you crashed and then you could chose "take control" to continue from that point. But this won't work in the campaign because it seems that you don't get the 100 points in the end. So even if you'd finish the mission, you'd have to redo it again. Yeah, I agree...it sorts of separates the men from boys, haha ;-)

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC

Glad you like it. I had the same feelings about the landing on Argo. After a few missions, you'll feel that this often is the easiest part ;-) Many more difficult and demandimg tasks will await you.
