Just checked the "Special" ribbon in the options, but there's nothing about the mirrors. @ebabil, no idea how I did this. It was without mirrors by default. I simply bought the module and installed it using the "dcs_updater install MI-8MTV2" command. But I just dug a bit deeper... in the options.lua, I noticed that there's an general option ["mirrors"] = false, So I changed it to true and the mirrors were pressent. Like Simicro mentioned, there's even an option in the GUI. It's under the ribbon "Game" (not sure if it's called like this in the english version). So if you want to remove the mirrors from the Mi-8, completely disable mirros in the game section of the options.

Thanks, but this didn't work. It's not like in the Spitfire where the mirrors are there but just not enabled by default. They're completely missing (see screenshot). The first screenshot, how it is on youtube videos. The 2nd and 3rd how it is on my PC. It's like somebody unscrewed the mirrors on my chopper....
-
On the youtube videos, I always see that the Mi-8 has mirrors. But I don't have mirrors on my Mi-8. Did Belsimtek remove them or is this another variant of the Mi-8?

Thanks for the feedback. I think it doesn't matter that it's civilian. Many Huey missions also are w/o weaponry but they're fun anyway. The Doppler doesn't seem that difficult to understand according to the training mission. I'll probably get the campaign, but I first one to do a few more of the original missions. I'll come back to you in case I'll have problems with the sling load.

How much is the MI-8 helping?
rge75 replied to Rhinozherous's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Thanks, yes I found that info somewhere on the net earlier today and it's indeed a usefull info. Watching VSI all the time is your friend ;-) -
How is the difficulty level of this campaign? I'm "new" to the Mi-8 (but have more than 100 hours on the Huey) and I actually just finished the first mission of the campaign that came along with the module. Since the Mi-8 seems an interesting helicopter, I might also get the Oilfield campaign. I'm not good at hovering in bad weather condition or in general in picking up sling load cargo, but I managed to finish the Argo campaign with the Huey. Some missions were really challenging to me though.

rge75 replied to Rhinozherous's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I bought it yesterday because many people said how good this module is, and indeed, the Mi-8 really "feels" great. But landing feels a lot more challenging than with the Huey. While you easily hear/feel when you have to increase the throttle in the Huey, it feels more difficult in the Mi-8. But you'll get used to it very quickly. During flight, it seems a lot more stable than the Huey, especially with the autopilots on. But if you like the Ka-50, then I'm not sure if you'll enjoy the Mi-8. I e.g. don't like the Ka-50, but I love the Huey and the Mi-8 just feels right to me. The Gazelle was "ok", but it looks like I tend to like the bigger, clumsy choppers. I did not deal a lot with the weapon systems yet though. But they also seem more straight forward...no fancy computer. Just aim and fire. -
As far as I remember (the mission with the convoy?), you don't have to destroy it. Just get close to it until it stops. Then land close to it.

DLC campaigns and repeating previous missions?
rge75 replied to ozTRipwiRE's topic in Oilfield Campaign
I don't have the Oilfield campaign, so I can't comment on this. With Argo, it's like in the default Huey campaign. If you fail a mission, you'll have to redo this mission over and over again until you manage to complete it. -
-
as somebody wrote earlier in this thread: dcs_updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain
-
Well, if the download seed won't get faster, it will be Saturday until DCS is updated :-o 27% after 2 hours. Hopefully, the download of the map will be faster.
-

Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Sorry to disappoint you, but I managed mission 6 w/o starting a new thread ;-) I must say, I did not participate that much though - Meatboy-1 did most of the dirty work. It seems like I was more a distant observer. And like Patersonski already said, the pdf is very well done (helpfull to know what to do). -
Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Well, I rounded up the numbers - I was more flying around 190, so I'm not overtorquing it. Over sea, I prefered working with the collective, but above ground, it was a mixture of both, especially when flying a corner. Either way...just finished the mission :-) But I almost threw it away when flying back and getting too much into the south (too close to Sukhumi), close to the ZSU. I probably was attracted by the fire fight down there. -
Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Thanks for the reply. I did a copy/paste of the campaign text of the mission (attached). Maybe I'm really blind but IMO it's missing in the english version (did a search for pdf and doc). It's no cristism that it's challenging. It even says that it includes a challenging campaign on the ED page. But of course it can become slightly frustrating if you have to redo the first part over and over again. But yeah, nobody told me to learn the Gazelle the hard way. Overall I'm sure it will increase my skills - it was the same with the Huey/Argo campaign. To me, it feels like a 8 actually ;-) Just a short question about the low level flight. I use the trim (10x forward) which gives me a speed around 200. When you notice you slightly lose altitude, do you give slightly more collective or do you slightly pull back the stick to gain a few meters of altitude? Or does it depend on the situation. My french isn't that good because I didn't use it for ages (Je m'excuse, mais je suis suisse-allemand). The good thing is that I get quite something out of my money because I have to try it that often. It gives me some extra hour with the Gazelle. campaign_introduction.txt -
Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Seriously or kidding? I just read through the campaign text again and I didn't see a note on a pdf documenation. At least I finally managed to ambush the convoy for the first time (don't ask me which attempt it was...I don't count anymore). Unfortunately, I was taken down around WP20 - or maybe I hit the ground when I tried to escape the shells. It's really challenging to stay very low there because it's not flat. Maybe I took a slight wrong route after WP18 because I went through the village (Odishi). Accordig to the pdf and the miz, I should have stayed a few meters more to the north. But I doubt it would have made a huge difference because there also wouldn't have been any cover. It was quite hard to not making that close to the end of the mission...well, better luck next time (hopefully). -

Hints on campaign mission 5 (destroy convoy at ambush point)?
rge75 replied to rge75's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Well, how can you read it when you don't know that it exists? :-/ Maybe it would have been nice to have a hint in the in-game briefing (more details in the pdf documentation). I did not even check the doc folder for the manuals because I downloaded Chuck's guide and because I was watching video tutorials to learn the Gazelle. But since I know that there's the pdf, I'll of course consult it before the mission. The speed isn't the problem. I flew around 200kmh and I'm there early enough. But from the ambush point, I only see a small part of the road. That's why the time window is so small. Anyway, I'll give it another try later on.
