  1. That's a big factor for me. I won't get rift S, but I also probably won't be changing headsets (vive in my case) for the time being, and can see the logic in getting the S over the others. Performance is over and above all other considerations. I think if I got a headset with great resolution and bad performance, it would get to the point where I couldn't fly with it (performance) and couldn't fly without it (go back to the vive), so I would end up not even using VR, as insane as that might sound!
  2. I cannot see any way to beat the AI in this plane (or the D9 for that matter). Diving down and killing the target is all fine, but then you gotta get out of there, and that is where the problem is. I cannot even outpace I-16's having swooped down at full throttle and then back up again. They always seem to catch me. In 109 you can loop around and put up a fight but in the Anton, you lose to much speed and radiply become a sitting duck. Ruins the SP experience for me at the moment.
  3. Hummm...encouraging response! :)
  4. There are problems with WW2 VR. The modules themselves are fantastic and blow all competition out of the proverbial water, but in SP certain modules such as the 190's are almost useless due to how the AI behaves. I want to get into multiplayer but am an expat who lives in asia and can't seem to find any servers with low pings and a decent amount of players. I can play another sim, but I have really fallen in love with the WW2 modules, but there is nothing much to do with many of them due to how the AI performs in SP mode. Are there any plans to fix this problem with the AI? And if so, are we looking at a long wait?
  5. Unfortunately in VR I am not sure the performance is quite there yet. Also seems to be hard to find servers with many people where I'm at, and is sometimes frustrating to even find a server. At the moment I can see 'severs 3 players 3'! All players in different servers and none of which seem to be WW2... The 190 is basically a no go in SP, because although I can get a kill in it, I can't escape anything it's a brick! I know AI can degrade performance but I don't understand why the pursuing AI can not be slowed or its shooting acurracy decreased some. Guess it would have a butterfly effect, but its very annoying, as it makes the whole thing a game of paper scissors stone, albeit with pretty much nothing being able to beat the spitfire, and pretty much everything able to kill the 190's.
  6. I was talking specifically about the Anton. I know its probably just an optimization thing that will be fixed in time and mainly wanted to draw attention to the problem of the propeller in VR when combined with motion smoothing. All other modules (DCS) are fine and performance is pretty good. But the Anton for some reason is not so great. My settings are 4 MSSA PD 1.1, but like I said its not a problem with DCS as I am happy with performance. With the Anton though I am probably going to wait for more optimization as the horizon stutters whenever I turn.
  7. Performance in VR is bad and stuttery. I can actually see steam VR frames blinking red when turning the AC, which does not happen with other modules which are performing very well. Another thing is that with ASW/MS this module suffers from prop artifacts in a way that most of the other modules do not. I really hope the devs will look to improve upon this (ASW prop artifacts) and not move in the same direction (that is to say nowhere) as the spirtfire developers, who seem to be fine with leaving it as it is.
  8. After a bit more experimentation I've noticed a few things. Firstly IMO BF109 textures are much crisper. Man that module really looks good these days in VR! But I have also found that the Anton actually looks really nice as long as it is not too exposed in sunlight or whatever you want to call it. Full exposure looks really really bad. It's actually I think a question of the colors or shading being used which look really washed out and unrealistic.
  9. Ah well that was before the update in SP. I don't get them since the update. Though I am getting gamebreaking flashes (lags) in multiplayer, although it seems to be worse on some servers than others. Not sure if its the age old problem of FPS drops when assets load into the map. Will give it another try now and see...
  10. Well I'm in now, so I don't know what to think. Seems to come and go. There are plenty of posts about this problem if you do a search though believe it or not. You not being affected by it doesent automatically mean the problem is on my end, although, asking for help here, was kind of indicitive of the fact that I thought it could, and indeed hoped it would be (so I could fix it on my end). Only trouble now in VR, there seems to be alot of flashes and lags that I don't get in SP. I think it's when things are being loaded in, or new players join or something. That incidentally, believe it or not, really is an old problem going back a few years!
  11. I'm on the latest open beta, updated yesterday. No idea about opening ports or messing with my router settings, or how to do that for DCS.
  12. I used to be able to see a few, but now none whatsoever no matter how often I refresh. Want to get into MP because the behaviour of the AI in SP can only take me so far, but now I find that there is effectively no multiplayer. Reading around seems to be a common problem going back many years. Just wondering if there is a fix. Other games/sims give me no such problems so I doubt its on my end. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  13. Do these tactics have any hope of success against the AI? Or am I wasting my time? Can't seem to shake them in a 190 (D or A) and I try to follow this advice, diving low to gain speed advantage and then extending gradually. Always ends in my death!
  14. Funny I noticed the same thing in VR although its worse when exposed to midday lighting, it still doesent seem as crisp as the 109 textures.
  15. I used to overclock to 5 ghz. But after a while, being honest with myself, I couldn't really see the difference. I once didn't even realize I was not OC'd! I think if you are still in any form of reprojection, or flipping in and out of 90, it's probably not going to make too much of a difference. I sometimes think its best not to hit 90 at all, than to go from 90 and back to reprojection continuosly, as this tends to be more noticible, flicking in and out of a flawless or alternatively degraded performance. You might get better FPS but I think the only two FPS values that really mean anything with VR are 90 and 45, and if you cant stay above the former it's best to stay in between both at all times. If a new GPU/CPU is not reported to able to acheive this I'll probably not be upgrading. That said extra CPU/GPU horse power might be useful in combination with some of the newer more demanding headsets to put me basically back where I am already performance wise, but with better graphics? But I too am hesitant on this question. It seems counter intuitive to assume it would work like this. If as the OP has discovered a greater CPU does not entail greater performance, could giving the same CPU yet more work to do ever mean, that this CPU would suddenly be better utilized, than a CPU that wasn't being properly utilized to begin with? Maybe I just don't understand how it all works though. I would say for anyone thinking of upgrading don't get hopes too high, because for as long as we cannot get above 90 constantly, the margins are going to be very fine indeed.
  16. I've seen them in videos and they do look great in 2D I will admit, especially due to the shadows which I don't use in VR. I guess another problem is we cant toggle on the pilot yet as with other modules which for me helps enromously in VR, as without the pilot things look a little empty and strange.
  17. I'm mainly talking about VR, but the cockpit textures dont seem as nice as say the BF109 in VR. Are they going to be improved? Don't know if its just me but they seem a little dated. Love the module though! Anyone else in VR feel the same?
  18. Just wondering how you guys reckon or have found the Reverb to work with DCS performance wise? I know its a tricky question because VR is not only variable, system to system but also person, to person with some people finding reprojection to be barely noticible and others not being able to tolerate it. So maybe in comparison to CV1 or the Vive, do you think there would be a significant or noticeable drop in performance? Kind of thing that I would probably not be able to go back from even if performance was poor, but I want most of all to be able to play the DCS campaigns in VR without poor performance. I actually think DCS looks incredible already, so I can well imagine how good it looks with a bump in resolution, but I am someone who never puts pixel density up too high (1.2) always -though I do have a standard such as using MSSA 4x) myself and find that performance suffers noticeably when doing so. Bad performance for me, grates over time far more than low res ever has, to the point were I stop playing. Although better res is a game changer, VR wise I've honestly found fluid performance to be the most immersive aspect of all. Bad performance reminds one more than anything that he is playing a computer game! Performance is so smooth now for me that I wouldn't want to jeopardize that, and also don't want to waste money obviously. I'm not going to upgrade my GPU until the next generation TI comes along as the 20 series doesent seem significant enough of an upgrade for the price, and besides I'm not even sure how well DCS will be able to utilize the extra horsepower.
  19. Well I just flew and am hard pressed to find anything wrong with performance. It really is very smooth for me and this is WW2 dogfighting too which was always problematic in VR fluidity wise. Not only performance but I can't get over how good it looks these days! Granted I always avoid playing at midday or at times when everything looks overly exposed in VR, but still its come on by leaps and bounds. Not only cosmetic changes such as sparks and smoke when firing into enemy planes (which means alot in VR), but the lack of shimmering, and the lighting/color and relfections upon the distant houses, as well as the overall smoothness of the terrain animations, all seem to be vastly improved. I trust you don't need any convincing as to how the modules themselves feel in VR, but take it from me if you havent already get a jetseat! It really is something I couldn't do with out! Just to be able to feel the weapons when firing (which is very cool!) would be worth it alone, but being able to feel the engines/stalls, landing gear, touchdown etc, is just the perfect compliment to the VR experience.
  20. Yeah thats where all my gains are as well, I don't even use fps counters. For me all this update really did is put things back the way they once were, though it is maybe better cause when turning my head to the side it really is perfectly smooth, though that may also be something to do with steam VR improving in recent years as well. On the whole though I'm happy cause I really wasn't playing DCS recently due to the bad performance. For me its more like something got broke and fixed, rather than some revolutionary new update but that may be a little unfair. It's probably running better for me now than it ever has done.. But I really don't understand why they said it wasn't in, and now they say it is in. Turned the whole thing into a bit of a ruined orgasm!
  21. Not really. I definately noticed a significant performance improvement.
  22. Theres a support group that meets on mondays to fridays if you're interested? Just a few members who just cannot let go, and meet up to share their feelings and vent in a supporting enviroment. How about it? :smilewink:
  23. I think it is profitable too. I for one have bought all of the WW2 planes so far, and will buy any others that come along!
  24. Yeah not high on my priorities either, I’ve never thought to myself god I wish I had a better FOV, just kind of role play that my view is somewhat restricted due to wearing googles or something. Better resolution though would be fantastic, once we can get the kind of image clarity we can get in 2D I think a game like DCS will look basically real!
  25. I would be interested in pimax, but I just can't imagine how a game like DCS which is far from perfect on one of the older headsets, could possibly handle the demands of one of these better headsets. So it might look good, but does it run smooth in comparison to say a rift or a Vive? I feel like I've waited 3 years for performance to get as good as it presently is on my VIVE, but if I were to buy a new VR head set, I'd get an increase in VR wow factor maybe, but be set back to the start again performance wise! There is nothing more immersion breaking than bad performance, and I think its the kind of thing people overlook when they get a new toy, but over time it will begin to frustrate. I really like the sound of the new reverb and I'm probably going to get one, but I want to hear more about the performance side of things before investing. Not sure either, because of the CPU limitations of DCS itself, if a GPU upgrade would really do much in that regard either, or at least not relative to the cost. So as honestly and as objectively as possible, how do you think the Pimax performs in VR in comparison to say a rift/vive? Same question for the reverb as well if anyone knows.
