Rejoice! The VR performance update comes next week!!
Wolf8312 replied to Jarhead_SGT's topic in VR Bugs
Problems? :) Nah man I have very good performance since the last update. But if I was to fly say the normandy campaign perhaps performance might not be so hot, as there are alot of moving parts on some of those missions. -
I will admit that I am a sucker for the VR placebo effect. But in this case it really isn't just simply a case of placebo. There was something badly wrong with performance before this last update, and now performance is very smooth, even without Motion smoothing. I say this only because of how obvious it was. Whenever I looped in my plane there would be very noticible stutters, that also occured at other times too.

Well tbh I had worried that as performance had been poor, and rather stuttering recently, that the VR update might just be a bug fix. But now that we seem to have had the performance problem fixed, with the VR improvements to come, it's pretty exciting. I'm not fixated on any percentage though. With VR almost any improvement will be a big improvement! If it will be exponentially bigger than the one we just had, it might even mean our performance problems are over. Probably dreaming there though! Just got to decide whether to buy a new improved VR headset, or keep the one I have for better performance. -
For some reason the update tool, or the new update itself corrupted my DCS install. I got it working actually and then it got corrupted again and started downloading afresh for some reason when I selected repair. The skatezilla update tool is now not working either. Now the game won't work and unless anyone has a suggestion it looks like I will have a painfully long reinstall ahead of me, with the possibility that using the updater may cause this problem again. one message was- ERROR: Can't run D:\DCS World OpenBeta\DCS_updater_64bit\bin/DCS.exe: (2) The system cannot find the file specified. 28018.237 === Log closed. And when I load the game it just says- error creating process. Anyone know what I should do?

How shallow are we talking about?

My performance is way better than it was and its not placebo because there was a very noticible stutter whenever I looped in a plane that is now gone. And I don't know if it's this update or not, but DCS looks fantastic in VR these days!

Couldnt agree more. More content needed sure, but I've never flown better or more convincing feeling WW2 modules than those of DCS. Worth it totally even just to take off, fight the AI and land again. VR has really improved recently as well, and as DCS devs support jetseat that also adds another layer of immersion. DCS WW2 is really going places, of that I am certain as the core modules are just too good and without any competition in terms of their feel and physics. I'm going to have to pick this up now too, as as I am going to get it anyway might as well get it on preorder prices! D-9 is horrible to fly against the AI though and ridiculously easy to kill when fighting the AI!

Hope so! I love the normandy map, and more than any other it needs so help performance wise!

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Wolf8312 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello just wondering is the I-16 not presently supported by simshakers? Looks like a great module, but its hard to play without my jetseat working! Any idea when it will be supported? Many thanks! -
You can beat the spitfire in the german planes against the AI. I had a terrible time with it at first too. Altitude and B an Z tactics just as in real life and it's not thatdifficult. I prefer proper dogfighting in the spitfire though! Learning the German planes actually made me better in the spitfire to be honest, cause whereas with the spitfire standard dogfight, it's about getting on the bandits tail and lining it up, german planes you have no choice but to learn deflection shooting, which works just as well for the spitfire too obviously. Apparently with the new damage model the AI is also getting improvements too so fingers crossed, cause I am sure in RL it cannot have been as difficult as it is, for the 109 and 190 (especially) to hold their own against spitfires when at similar altitudes. The main problem is that its almost impossible to escape once they are on your tail.

Have to agree it looks a bit off. And people can have anything posted online by any unofficial source just to get peoples juices flowing with no accountability. Was it released officially or is this just something floating around? Still if it really is that good, me want very much!

Probably going to get a reverb at some point myself. Already having the basestations a big reason, but I also wouldn't want to be locked into or support Occulus. I sense a pimax would maybe be impressive at first but as the normal Vive struggles in DCS, I just can't imagine the performance is anything but awful, and really that's the main thing. I won't even get Reverb probably if the promised DCS performance improvements don't pan out, as after a few years performance for me, really does trump every other consideration. This is also because the game itself is better looking in VR than it used to be. When one first starts with VR a bit of stutter/heavy reprojection is something easy to overlook but it's something that one begins to notice more over time, and I have a feeling that eventually Pimax users will be frustrated if not already. Its frustrating enough on a normal Vive sometimes, so I just don't see how it could possibly handle the kind of dogfights I am used to.

Nothing like it. Without doubt my favorite module, and am totally with the OP about how good landing feels when perfect. Only problem is the prop artifacts in VR with MS or ASW on. Because without MS recently on the Vive anyway, game is way too stuttery during sharp turns. Really wish they'd fix it.
-
It wasn't the new open beta. I had changed terrain and graphics textures to low and had either forgotten or not realized. It is vastly better like this (in the past this had very little effect) cause on high its horribly stuttery. Without MS performance is still a long way from perfect but much better.
-
Just using the latest Beta. It works great in most maps with plentiful planes either with MS or without. There are some maps where I still seem to get some horizon tracers/stuttering without MS, but it is definately an improvement.

Certainly not constant 90 in heavy combat situations with the other sim. It has great performance, but unlike DCS the devs have done nothing to address the propeller artifacts caused by ASW/motion smoothing. As a result of this ASW has to be turned off, and therefore I actually find DCS to be smoother (once DCS gets the damage model stutters out of its system). Overall though I don't think theres that much in it, think people focus too much on what the FPS counters say. I actually get more frustrated with the other sims developers tbh, as whereas the DCS devs are aware there is work to be done, and improvements to be made, the others seem to take the position that their VR implementation is perfect and finished, and therefore we can expect no more development. Both sims could do alot better with VR, but that said I am grateful for what we already have with both.

Mine is back to working great again now. Even without MS on (spitfire) vastly improved. IADC. SLI is not worth wasting your money on, and besides raw GPU horsepower is not what will solve the problem.

Sometimes cold starts. Sometimes not. With more complex modules, playing my own missions, I tend to start on the runway, because I don't really see the point of going through such a long procedure when I know that I will be dead in a few minutes anyway! Those missions are all about quick and easy fun! If I am doing a proper campaign mission though, cold start is all part of the atmosphere. One exception is the MI8 cause I find its immersion breaking in VR to have to constantly switch between seats!
-
I've gone back to the shaders mod. Probably going to stay with it until someone can confirm things have improved 2.5.4 wise. Keep me posted!
-
MS is basically valves version of ASW motion smoothing. We may be waiting a while for improvements, but we all want them. I've gone back to version 2.53 and am getting much better performance. Still doesent seem as good as it was, but don't know if thats my imagination. At least now the same mission with MS on doesen't feel like I'm flying through liquid fabric. Does seem as if the graphics/aliasing are not quite as good as they were in 2.54 but again hard to know if thats my imagination! Maybe they got bumped up and degraded performance. I think you'll drive yourself mad worrying about ghosting, its worse with ASW/MS on (though performance won't be as smooth) but I still get it some either way. It's just something I got used to to be honest and an unavoidable reality of VR/reprojection.
-
Another thing though is that DCS is really running badly lately for me and alot of other people in VR. I don't know what happened, because it was the best I've ever played it just a few weeks ago. Now MS/ASW or not, it's got really stuttery and horrible. I can't roll back to an earlier version either because there is something wrong with my connection to their servers and the download basically stalls. I'm annoyed too. Can't really play it like this!
-
Dont want to be the bearer of bad news but my guess is your AMD CPU buddy. I have heard they perform badly in VR for flight sims like DCS/IL-2.
-
That's just how it is, I'm afraid. I use about the same settings/system 1.2 PD and 2X MSSA (no shadows). But I have got to say I have no problem with how the game looks. For me it looks great. You have to choose settings that are also going to perform well under heavy load, not just flying around, especially when WW2 dogfighting is the aim. Ghosting doesen't bother me either, that's just a fact of ASW/MS, but I have noticed that if I go above the graphics settings mentioned I'm getting a weird kind of stutter I have never noticed before. It's almost like a lag. The planes seem to jump around almost. I want to roll back to an old DCS version but cannot because the DCS downloads are so slow as to be basically permanently stalled. Anyone know why or a way around this problem?

Pimax 5k plus order now and have it in 3 weeks or less!
Wolf8312 replied to A Hamburgler's topic in Virtual Reality
Think I'll wait before people have had it for a while. Hard to know what the truth of the matter is when people have just bought expensive new toys as most are a bit too loved up to see things objectively. I mainy worry about performance. Right now with my system 1.2 PD and 2x MSSA is pretty much my limit. So how would it even work with a pimax? Would I even be able to play it at it's native resolution? Quite frankly I'd rather lower res picture and better performance, than high res and lower performance. Anyone tell me how performance compares to a standard Vive/rift or even the Vpro?Any compromises? I just think as with reprojection, it's often not something one notices but tends to become more apparent over time, especially when you start trying to play campaigns as oppose to just flying around. -
