Is cockpit updated for deferred shading?
Wolf8312 replied to Charlie-1's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
For me it looks exaclty the same as it was in VR. Too much light shimmering around. But the propeller is what I hope they will really fix! -
Not sure if it fixes it but dynamic weather seems to help. Dont use cloud density settings in VR as it lags the game. Only trouble is I don't actually understand what I am doing with the dynamic system so sometimes I get clouds and at others dont! Works much better though especially for performance. Life saver really as other wise I would have to shut them off!

How long have you had VR zoomer. Flight and driving sims I’ll never go back to 2D, but there are many games I still much prefer on a monitor, and some that just wouldn’t work in VR. I tried subnautica in VR, but for a game like that, found it too exhausting to wear a HMD for the lengths of time one would need to invest to make any progress. With flight and driving sims I fly one mission or have one race, and then have a rest. I thought I’d never go back to 2D at first, but ir does have its benefits.

Ah okay I misunderstood how it works. -
A headset that will increase system demands holds no interest for me to be honest. I’m not exactly the opposite of the OP as I find graphics important in VR I won’t lie, but seriously I’m happy enough playing with 2x MSSA, and 1.3 pixel density. To me it looks fine already especially out of towns from high altitude, I can even live without MSSA in those situations! Fo myself, I f I played on a monitor the graphics would be all zoomed out, and it wouldn’t any longer be a true simulation of real flying, just another game as I wouldn’t be 1-1 with the AC. Graphics are important to me to an extent in VR, but bad performance is much more immersion breaking, and this tends to become more apparent the longer you fly in VR. I think unless major improvements to DCS come along VR users are going to find pimax frustrating. Maybe when a new graphics card comes out, and a DCS gets Vulcan, but I’d wait to see what’s in the water before jumping in!

See my post before this one that explain more clearly the intentions of my post. I'm not seriously accusing you of trying to harm VR users buddy, and never was. I totally get that, you just want to improve your own sense of immersion. Again most of what I wrote was just intended as a light hearted joke! I mean come on- Note to self- you are not funny!
-
Yeah you're right, though I did say 'maybe harm VR users' for that very reason. And yes Mustang has a little more artifacts than the BF109 (which has none) but it is mostly fine. My only intention here is to make sure that the developers will take VR users into consideration if they go ahead and decide to change things. One mans fix is another mans bug! Hopefully we won't end up with a propeller like the one in the spitfire.

Out of interest was that a statistic covering the whole of the wars total losses? Across all levels of pilot, early and late war, indiscriminate of rank? I think I heard alot of problems were due to switching airfields during the late stages of the war when they were pushed further and futher back into Germany with better airfields. But I think before that it would only have been new flyers who were affected. But don't quote me on any of that as I am a bit vague, and obviously have no statistics to back me up. But I did hear that it was a problem that affected everybody from new pilots and even old hands and aces.
-
Yes but if they do that, you maybe will harm VR users! I know that wasn't your intention originally, but now that you know, and have been warned about the possibly dire consequences, your dastardly plan may have upon VR users such as myself, you can no longer plead ignorance, and look the other way, but have the chance now to speak out on behalf of a poor oppressed minority... SAY NO TO PROP-OSTION 109 (erghhh)
-
I thought I was being pretty tounge in check wasnt I? But although I don't seriously mean that developers should only consider me, me, me, I do honestly think it would be unfair to take something that works brilliantly in VR already and mess it up, simply because other people want a more visible propeller. Rather than asking for something to be changed point blank without considering those it would affect, you could at least ask that the developers provide an option for a more visible propeller that would not affect VR users. You see the propeller as it is, doesn't disrupt your gaming experience, but for many VR users if it becomes more visible like the spitfires, it could indeed spoil immersion and enjoyment of the whole module. So I could turn your question on its head, and ask you the very same thing? As long as it doesent damage you, is it okay to damage others?

Are there any plans to work on damage for the WW2 modules? When I get hit you see, I cant feel the vibrations hitting my AC which means sometimes I am getting shot full of holes but dont realize it! -
How is hog grip on Virgil base?

My god it is pottery lol! -
Ah but if the devs listen you guys my VR experience could be ruined! You must be stopped! Have you considered solving the problem by getting into VR yourselves?
-
That's maybe your problem then. Do a clean installation of windows. I know when I first installed my 1080Ti I had the same problem (slide show!) which went away when I cleanly reinstalled windows. But if you say its fixed then have fun! What are the frame rates now? Motion smoothing is well worth using as long as your not dropping under 45, or using a module with a pronounced propeller like the spitfire.
-
Please don’t listen to the OP Devs. Selfish maybe but the BF109 propeller in DCS works perfectly in VR with motion smoothing. If it was to change to be more like the spitfire it would introduce horrible immersion breaking artifacts as with the spit
-
I actually don't mind it for the moment tbh although I aim to get rid of it eventually for immersions sake. I'm just generally flying practice dogfights and sometimes its quite hard to be sure if you hit the enemy or not. In WW2 though, when you damage them their goose is pretty much cooked!
-
I'll just add another thing related to performance. The game actually seems to look alot better now even if running with no MSSA, and simply bumping up PD to about 1.3. Might be a bit jagged in the cities like Vegas, but I can honestly live with it now, especially if I am flying WW2 planes and dogfigting from altitude. So it doesent only seem to have better performance, but also seems to have made it more palatable to turn down some of the graphics settings and thereby increase performance alot. I know some people can't bring themseleves to do that, but I think I can get used to it now, to be honest, whereas in the past I too couldn't bare to turn off MSSA.
-
Yeah man disable mods. Don't need that shader mod now anyway! I'm actually not sure if the same benefits cannot be achieved by just deleting the terrain/metacahe files.
-
Did you turn off motion smoothing as mentioned in the other thread? The warping effect is MS but to be honest even with MS you shouldnt be getting frames like that, and it only really happens with the spitfire for me. When you installed the new card did you make sure to do a full clean reinstallation of windows 10? Or did you just put it in and carry on as normal?

I will give it a try thanks man. No worry or hurry, enjoy your holidays! -
All I can suggest is that you turn off all mods run a repair and clean up. Delete meta shaders and FXO folders. Did you have any mods on when you updated to the latest beta?

.. improved .. external models
Wolf8312 replied to Captain Orso's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Bf109 and FW190 I can see a huge difference. Spitfire seems to be the same. -
Is weight also why the cannons/guns never quite got up to german levels of ferocity? To be honest at first I hated the spitfire cannons/guns having tried out the germans weaponry, but now having got quite good in the spitfire have found they are more than capabul of getting the job done.
-
I know yours is a thankless job at time, but I just wanted to say thanks for the efforts. The new update is fantastic. Performance in VR is massively improved (combined with motion smoothing almost perfect tbh), and pilot ejection FPS drops are gone. I have noticed that there are still fps drops when using cloud density set to high or when a certain AC explodes for the first time, but that's no great concern for now. The cockpits and planes in WW2 now look fantastic in VR not simply for the clarity and better textures but because these factors combine so well with the depth perception of DCS in VR. To be honest WW2 cockpits were always a little rough in VR, but now they really do feel more genunine and immersive. DCS is without question IMO the best combat flight simulator ever made! The great thing about DCS is that you have supported not only VR, but also the Gametrix jetseat and simshaker software which when combined together creates a level of immersion that no other flight sim can get close to! Thanks again, and merry christmas!
