Is it possible a recent windows update is responsible or something? I may just not have noticed it until I noticed it, but I never had this problem until very recently...
-
I've noticed latest update has worse performance although it looks better even with MSSA off (PD 1.2), no shadows. With persian gulf or normandy maps theres a terrible stutter without motion smoothing, and with it way more artifacts when spinning around. Much better on vegas and Caucasus but seems like something is worse with one of the latest updates. More basestation flashes when planes take damage as well. An old problem but seems to be worse now. Might try the stable branch.

Is DCS WWII stalled? DCS dont want customers?
Wolf8312 replied to motoadve's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Did the spitfire M IX really overheat after a few minutes of full throttle? Is it now no longer possible to blow the engines no matter how long you stay at full throttle? -

Welcome to your own opinion but I strongly disagree! :) -
Virpil you should really do something to increase your stock
Wolf8312 replied to Ifikratis's topic in VIRPIL Controls
My experience with Virpil went without any hitch whatsoever. Don't know if I was lucky or because I wasn't ordering to america. The online shop I ordered from though always seems to have product in stock. My VKB pedals took like half a year (or maybe I am remembering that as longer than it actually was) and it was a pain in the backside, as I didn't realize until after I ordered them (third party seller though) how long it was going to take. Was worth the wait eventually as they are very good pedals, nice and compact, as well as very precise and sturdy. Really at the end of the day, at the time the choice was a long wait, or some crappy plastic saitek pedals! Its annoying but as I am commited to this hobby I'd rather wait and get a higher end product, than aqquire an inferior one instantly. Put your name on the list and eventually you will get it, but if you dont buy a ticket you won't win the raffle! Buying virpil was a very smooth experience with great customer service for me as well. And I may take her for granted these days but I have to say, fly sensitive modules like the spitfire, and the precision and sensitivity of the stick actually compliments, and improves your ability to fly in a way my warthog just cannot compete. You really are comparing a sleek mongoose with a clumsy lumbering old warthog. -

Even now without the damage model and limited SP content and a number of other problems, I find it very difficult to fly any other WW2 combat than DCS these days. Yes a better damage model would be nice and I can't wait, but the flight models themselves are just so much better than the competition that after flying them for a while I just can't really go back! The spitfire for example is a god damned masterpiece. The competition just does not come close to how authentic that AC feels in VR combined with a jetseat and a good HOTAS. Already blows the competition out of the water in my opinion, but I think at this stage it depends what you're looking for and where your priorities lay. I want the DM as much as the next guy, but it's not something I really lose sleep over. It also helps that I am not exactly a veteran and so I don't get bored with and am still challenged fighting the AI, and making my own missions. Another factor in my favor is that I dont really care too much about which plane is in which map/terrain or if it's the correct variant for the correct time period etc. I just make missions and role play that it is WW2. For me it's just a BF109! I think people get too hung up on that stuff, to the point were they wont even make/share missions for the DCS 109 just because there is not a historically accurate context for it. For me this is insanity tbh, as it's only a simulation anyway! Almost all DCS modules require a bit of imagination to make them work. It's not like the Huey has a vietnam terrain to fly in either! -
Better performance than ever here. You sure that mod isn't interfering with things? I don't fly with shadows though either.

1.5 DCS PD is a little high with MSSA on especially with shadows also on, but it does sound like something is off. Is this the first time you have used VR, have you ever played it with better performance than you have now? Also 5.3 GHZ with an 8700K? Are you sure its a stable OC? Even if you have some great cooling tech, these things can often cause problems for all kinds of different reasons. Have you tested it extensively, and how long did you leave it for under load? I can tell you its not a problem with the game, cause personally I have never had better performance, and I don't even use an OC anymore. Very smooth, though I do use MS. You might try disabling the OC anyway, just to see, as at 5.3 it might just not jive well with DCS for some reason. Another thing. Is it a new computer/upgrade? If so did you make sure to do a clean installation of windows? Unless it's not just an inability to stomach VR/reprojection, combined with graphics settings that are too high, I'd say the problem is on your end somewhere. But these things are very hard to gauge, as I am sure what is butter smooth for me, would amount to poor performance for others.
-
You would see alot of gains with even a 1080Ti. DCS performance for me personally has never been better, thanks to the VIVEs motion smoothing, but it depends on what sort of person you are as well (For example if you are the sort to obsess over ghosting etc). I used to have a 980Ti though and it wasn't really good enough even then. You should however make sure you turn off MSSA (like I didn't)! But to be fair to the developers I got VR when it came out, and the progress has actually been very substantial if I compare what I have now to what I had back then, but thats also due to developers working for the VIVE as well.

Has five bombing got more difficult?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I've tried it on every different setting (all four) OV and MV and the bomb always sinks into the ground and does not explode! This is the SC 500/250. Have you tried it yourself man? Does it work for you? For me for it to work I would basically have to hit a unit dead on and hammer it into the ground! -
Yeah I just came here to make a post about FPS drops in VR that always seem to occur when I am taking off and climbing in the tiger. Now you come to mention it, this nasty FPS is happening around the time I am trying to trim the nose down. Fix please devs!

I have the fuse set to the one at full left position as recommended in the tutorial which is without delay. I'll give it a try with F6 later when I get time. Thanks for the response. -

After all this time still no answer? Can anyone at least tell me if it is working for them so I know it's me, and not some bug? I can't even see the explosion using SC500 bombs. In the training mission there are plenty of targets and I am flying basically vertically above them, so it's hard to see how I could possibly miss. -
Yes sorry misunderstanding. Personally I can mange take off with no brake input in the initial stage, as my rudder will not become effective until I have picked up speed. No rudder or even brake input proved impossible for me, especially in adverse weather conditions.
-
I used to hit the target every time now I miss every time and never even see the bomb fall to see by how much. I pretty much follow the tutorial fly in from a few thousand feet fly about 70 degrees downwards (have also tried 90/30 etc) and let rip when the target liness up with the bottom line of my target reticle (have tried center etc) but never seem to hit anything! Anyone else have any trouble dive bombing in the 109?
-
I second this. Helicopters are especially awesome in VR, but not only that, performance is better and just the way one flies and fights in the is more conducive to perform well in VR especially is not using MS or ASW.
-
No problem just take that mission and edit it in the mission editor.

The only combo I have really struggled with is Fw190 Vs pretty much anything. And P51 Vs any German plane. I'm no ace, but at least in the others I rack up some kills. Spitfire is the easiest (and most fun). 109 Vs P51 is pretty easy. More difficult against the spitfire, but I can still get some very celebratory kills by means of boom and zoom hawk attacks and deflection shooting. I can't really nail the spits in a dogfight so my tactics are dependent entirely upon get in and get out, so I guess that's how it should be. As much as it could obviously be better, I have learned alot Vs the AI as a noob, especially deflection shooting wise. I'm gonna set up some escort missions for the P51 above 20,000 feet when I get time, but the real worry I have is the 190. Hard to believe that such a beast could be so sluggish and heavy, but I guess I need more practice?
-
Do you have take off assistance on? I certainly cannot take off without rudder input, and actually often need to use toe brakes to adjust myself from veering too far off course! Recently had a terrible time taking off but realized it was dynamic weather creating turbulence even though it was set to 0 in the menu. From the amount of times I crashed when practicing though I would say it seems plenty difficult!

I used to play pre update DCS. Honestly as someone who doesn't use, and never used to use fps counters, I don't really see that much of a difference. We used to be able to have MSSA on 4 and PD on 1.5, but I think these days, although you should go lower settings wise, as the game itself looks much better, you don't really need to go that high anymore to get it looking much better, than it used to. 1.2/3 PD and 2x MSSA and I am happy. I don't even mind turning MSSA off but dont do so because its not really necessary to go that low! Also with the advent of motion smoothing for the VIVE I have to say that performance for me has never been better, and I am very excited to think that there is more to come. In VR DCS used to be so washed out and lacking in any color! For me I make sure that I understand my modules/systems and then fly with low gamma and mostly at dawn or sunset. In which case aside from SDE, it looks almost real, and couldn't really be any smoother. I rememer it always used to studder if you turned your head to the side, but now its pretty damned good. Way happier than I was a year or two ago, no question about it. The only module I have with problems (apart from fps drops when an AC is damaged/crashes for the first time) is the spitfire, because of propeller artifacts, but I still fly, and love it, as its never been smoother and in dogfighting that is the main thing. Honestly as a Vive user, I don't really remember it being all that smooth before the update either. Certainly not if you played a mission with plenty of things going on or got into a dogfight with 15 other planes. Before flying proper missions also always make sure to fly and fight around a bit first, this will get the DCS damage model stutters out of its system. Turn off the FPS counters!

Spitfire "recent" update? (04JAN18)
Wolf8312 replied to philstyle's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
+1 badly needs a fix. As it stands in VR the best WW2 (IMO) module is also the worst. I can live with it for now, but have been gravitating towards the 109 more lately. The spit is really as it stands the only module I have in DCS that is afflicted with this problem. Gotta give credit to the DCS devs because it's also pretty unplayable in the other sim, but DCS and module devs seem to have done the work needed to make ASW/MS compatible with the prop planes. In the other sim even with prop off mod, there are still much more artifacts than with DCS, so I actually nowdays have a smoother experience with DCS/MS than I do with the game with the higher fps. One niggle I have for the other sim's VR implementation, is the devs seem to take the attitude that its perfect anyway, and therefore needs no improvement, whereas the DCS developers have continued to work on improving VR. We aint going to get constant 90 FPS anytime soon, so the correct thing is to work towards improving the ASW/MS experience. And might I say with the exception of the spitfire they have done a brilliant job! Incredibly smooth experience these days. -

Mission Editor Static Templates-Thank You ED!
Wolf8312 replied to enigma6584's topic in Mission Editor
Can I use these static templates only work on the same map? Like I can’t make one in the Persian gulf and transfer it over to the Caucasus? -
Yeah man that did the trick finally got it working! Thanks you guys! Gonna have to see if it's challenging now, or too difficult, as its a difficult balance to strike!

I think I have an idea what might be wrong. I guess it wont be enough to just have them all follow the leader, but I must make sure that each bomber group has its own way and switch points.
