he tanker situation is one of the reasons, as Eddie mentioned, that current mid-east ops would often plan their bingo/joker for an alternate airfield. If you flew a mission over Syria from (for example) Aviano there is no way you are getting home without a tanker. Thus all your bingo and joker levels for that sortie would be based on going somewhere with a friendly runway, but not necessarily home (Aviano). You would never let your fuel go below the bongo level for that specific phase of flight that would guarantee you getting to a runway somewhere.

Don't worry about manual wind entry at the moment. Currently the A-10 in DCS always has a perfect wind model. We've tested this quite a few times and there has never been any difference between the auto wind and manual entry.

How to delete Flight plans;Mark points ;S-points etc`????
Scaley replied to deeteewan's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Start with the manual. I'd suggest reading it while actually in the sim on the ground with the electronics all powered up since a lot of the descriptions in the manual don't make much sense without the actual CDU in front of you. I can't think of anything not covered in the manual that is particularly important. -
Suggestion: Momentary Cockpit Zoom command?
Scaley replied to Lixma 06's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I have a custom snap view of just the HUD mapped exactly like that on a HOTAS key. Just google "custom snap views" and you'll get plenty of instructions on how to save them. -
In a similar vein to what's been posted above... I can't remember the last time I used the F10 map other than mission editing/testing. There are lots of JPG/PNG files of both the NTTR and Georgia maps available online which you can put in your kneeboard (either the sim one or a separate device like a laptop or tablet). I find that much quicker to look at and easier to use compared to F10 which obviously stops you looking outside! My question would be - what do you use the F10 map for at the moment? If you've planned the flight to any degree at all one would hope you have waypoints in the CDU that will tell you where to go, as well as knowing (on a map) where you are going.

The answer will depend on which CBU and what you mean by "armoured". The 87 is not designed to kill MBTs, but will have some effect on light armour like APCs and some IFVs. The 97 is designed to go against more heavily armoured targets. The main DCS limitation at the moment is that there is no fragmentation damage at all, so these weapons are actually unrealistically ineffective against infantry and soft vehicles.

Interesting - does is match when you get audio tones from the RWR of a radar hitting you?
-
When you are in flightplan mode the only points you can select are the ones in the flightplan, and by way of making them the steerpoint. In Mission or mark mode you can select any waypoint, by a number of methods (typing the name, number, +/- rocker). In flightplan mode, by design, the display, selection and viewing of waypoints is restricted to the flightplan steerpoints only.

Loadout wouldn't normally be determined by a pilot alone. It would be a component of mission planning which would be conducted by pilots, squadron staff such as the ops officer, etc. Loadout might be specified in the Air Tasking Order (sometimes also called a frag order) in that the task dictated by the theatre air tasking authority might specify a particular weapon on a particular target. This would be less likely in CAS and more likely in a strike role. You are right that in DCS the pilot has unlimited of freedom to alter loadout that they wouldn't have in RL.

The yaw SAS only has +/- 7deg of rudder authority available for turn coordination, so if you are at high lateral stick deflections you can easily require more than that given the wing length and the roll-rates.
-
Interesting. I've flown some light sport aircraft with fairly strong adverse yaw and never found the A-10 to be too bad in DCS, but the SAS definitely doesn't do all the work for you. I hadn't (like that previous thread) ever compared SAS ON and SAS OFF.

Panther, there are no rules, but lots of things to consider which will bring you to the conclusion of what weapon to employ in each situation. Things to consider (non-exhaustive list): 1) Effect on target (i.e you can't kills a tank with unguided rockets, or a bunker with a M82) in DCS this is poorly modelled but in reality "target effects" consist of some mix of blast, fragmentation, heat and also each weapon has different penetration against armour, earth, concrete, etc. In DCS there is only blast, so fragmentation weapons like unguided rockets are minimally effective, and most soft-skinned vehicles are WAY too tough. 1a) Closely linked to effect on target is collateral damage, but because there is no frag in DCS (which would travel way further than the DCS/RL blast radius) this isn't such a concern in the sim. 2) Target movement - difficult to hit moving vehicles with unguided bombs, and JDAM goes to a set of co-ordinates so won't work on a moving vehicle. Conversely Maverick and LGBs will work well. 3) Weather - You have to be able to see the target, so LGBs and low cloud won't work, etc 4) Threat weapons envelope - this consists of two parts: a) Altitude - if there is lots of AAA or low altitude SAMs like MANPADS you might want to employ from high altitude so as not to be in the threat envelope at all. Equally you might have to be down low to terrain mask from a radar SAM or fighter aircraft radar. b)Range - you might need stand-off range in order to employ from outside a threat weapon system range, or perhaps be inside it for the minimum time period possible. 5) Weapon system employment work-time - i.e how long it takes you to work the systems on the jet from target acquisition until effects on target. If a JTAC is shouting for rounds on target right now during a troops-in-contact the gun might be best, and a JDAM that takes 2 minutes to set up and use would be bad. Similarly the time pressure might come from closing enemy aircraft, or a desire to minimise time inside a threat weapon system envelope (and here clearly altitude and stand-off range interact). 6) Likelihood and consequences of missing - if there is a high value, high threat target that has taken 8 SEAD aircraft, 6 fighters and a 4 ship strike package to get you onto the target, don't try to drop a single unguided bomb and then find out later you have to come back and do it all again. Equally don't use M82s in high winds if there are friendlies just downwind... If you put all those together they will help you work out what weapons and what attack profiles you should be thinking about in each situation.

When I was looking for an online squad to join I just used a fair bit of google, plus this list: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Virtual_Squadrons_and_Regiments which is a bit out of date, and read each squad website to try to find one that offered what I was looking for. Ended up with the 476th since they felt like the best match for what I was looking for (and we're not that tough!!) If you have any 476th related questions drop me a PM or check out our forums.

[REPORTED]/[MERGED] Roll Oscillation w/ AP Alt Hold - 1.5.6.3690.269
Scaley replied to Scotch75's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well then you don't need any video editing software, just post the track. Maybe someone from ED will notice this thread, or maybe it's already reported, but still more data never hurt anyone. -

By a track do you mean a .trk file or a video? What ED need is the actual track file generated by the game, not a screen-grab video. -
[REPORTED]/[MERGED] Roll Oscillation w/ AP Alt Hold - 1.5.6.3690.269

Yep, I've got the same. Significant roll oscillations with ALT mode AP. Happens at all airspeeds I've tried. Someone needs to post a track - I'll see if I get time this weekend. -
I cant find target with labels on. How to find target?
Scaley replied to kamui231a's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The TGP can be hard to spot target with at the moment, and harder in caucasus map than nevada. However, a few tips can help: 1) as already mentioned zoom in your cockpit view. Either using zoom, or if you have trackIR lean in towards the MFD so it fills much more of your monitor. 2) Zoom the pod in more - in the video you keep quickly zooming in an out. You eye will never adjust to that. Zoom in and search systematically by moving the pod, then stopping and searching that field of view, then slew again. 3) Use expanded field of view if you need more zoom. Hope that helps. -
Personally I'd be more interested in them getting synced in multi-player than getting better looking. Currently having the choice between fully overcast and completely clear is a bit dull.

I think what zhukov032186 is suggesting is 2 columns, on for keyboard commands and one for all other (Dx, HID, etc) controllers, on the assumption that you are unlikely to want several different buttons to do the exact same thing, but you might want one button plus a keyboard command. I can see potentially that there are some set-ups where this might not be enough, but the basic premise remains - why is there a distinct column for each controller. As already stated no other game I can think of does this. You just select what input you want. You can have unlimited columns as long as each one can accept any input device, this meaning most people will only use one or two columns, and the pit builders can keep using 15...

There is a brevity guide on the 476th vFG site. It's quite long but contains probably every term you'll come across in-game plus a lot more. 476th vFG Brevity Guide

There is a bug with activation sometimes, and if your hardware changes sometimes it's hard to re-activate. From memory the solution that worked for me last time was to delete the activation keys for the modules having the problem (it was the Ka-50 for me) and then re-activate using the pop-up window. I can't remember where the keys are stored but a quick google search got me the answer last time. I don't think you'll need to do a complete re-install next time. The reason you were stuck in the F10 map view is that you didn't have the aircraft activated, so you couldn't get in the cockpit to fly it, thus only the F10 map view would be available. F1 should take you to the cockpit view if it's allowed.

Yep, it's minutes. It's so long probably (my assumption) because the pod isn't only hung on the A-10. Other aircraft that use other weapon systems use it, including things that can release long range glide or powered ordnance like Walleye, Small Diameter Bomb, SLAM, etc. You won't be needing the extra digits in the A-10C but the Hornet drivers might be! That's always been my assumption anyway.

Likely you are trying to set preset with the UHF radio in manual mode. Unlike the VHF radios you need to have the mode selector in Preset before you can store any new presets.

Yurgon, Have you tested this? What kind of FPS losses are we talking about and do we know if this is a server side setting or a client in MP?
