Good system to build for DCS 2.0? Advise please!
JINX_1391 replied to sukhoi350's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
hughlb's post is basically what I used for frame of refernce for my build. Completed two weeks ago. http://pcpartpicker.com/b/wwWXsY You can also use that site to build your own PC from. It will ensure compatibility, let you compare items, searches for best price, and offers great support. Above link is to my dedicated DCS PC build. I get 110-120 FPS flying low through the Vegas strip, on a populated MP server, running trackir, and shadow play. Exactly what I wanted to be able to play DCS and enjoy how great it really is with no issues so far. Edit: Oh, and I only use one monitor to play DCS on. The other I use to have TS3, monitor temps, shadowplay, watch..err...youtube, etc. -
I still struggle with the ILS approach, especially when conditions make it a requirement. There is tons of videos and info out there that can help with the proper stuff. But here are a few of my lessons learned (and if any make some of you cringe as a "bad habit" let me know cause I'll still learning too). 1) 25 and 25: 250kts at 2500' is your "I'm near a runway and want to land" aircraft posture. 2) Once ATC gives me my cleared runway (runway 18 ), I look at my F10 map and the following: a. Where am I in relation to the runway/airfield. b. Where do I have to maneuver to intercept heading 180 approx. 10nm away from the runway threshold (do this using the distance tool on the F10 map). c. Fly to that point, turn to 180, maintaining 25 and 25. 3) Flaps and gear go down 4) The line on the Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) should be vertical, and the bars should be up on the Attitude Direction Indicator (ADI). I agree with pr1malr8ge, I don't follow the cross on the HUD, but use is as a check every now-and-then to reference my progress. 5) I fly the approach using the ADI bars as follows: a. I establish AOA of 20+ on the HUD using stick input, once achieved only throttle to increase/decrease depending on horizontal ADI bar (bar goes up, throttle goes up etc). b. Left or right slight stick inputs depending on vertical bar on ADI. 6) Also watch Altitude Indicator, at around 500' start looking out the HUD more for the runway. This is more were I start worrying about where the ILS cross is on the HUD. 7) At 200 to 100' you should be visual or very close. Adjust as needed, flare slightly once you cross threshold. I did a lot of ILS practice during perfect conditions before I stuck a night/fog ILS approach. And I realize now that I'm still horrible at it and am promising myself to run home and practice it some more. Good luck, and ask more questions if you have them. We are all here to learn and share. Cheers!

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 5

So......snarky! Ya, we saw him on last night as well. Although we didn't know he was TK'ing or causing issues. Shame considering the amount of time and commitment it takes for this wonderful wonderful event. -
I think that's what they meant by "too zoomed out". Mouse wheel acts like binoculars do; it will zoom in to a certain point and zoom out past a natural point (kinda like looking through the wrong end of the binocular). I think you were out past the natural point. Once you get it where you want it, hit the "re-center" key binding you have for the trackir and it will keep you seated nicely in the cockpit.

I know of this user-created campaign for DCS 1.2/1.5. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/?arrFilter_pf%5Bfiletype%5D=3&arrFilter_pf%5Bgameversion%5D=&arrFilter_pf%5Bfilelang%5D=&arrFilter_pf%5Baircraft%5D=22&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&CREATED_BY=&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC&set_filter=Filter It is payware, I can't remember the exact amount but I think $5.00. Really well done, and will make you work to earn the qualification. The nighttime ILS landing still enrages me. Not sure if anyone is creating/updating a training/qualification package for the 2.0 NTTR map, but it would make since considering that is a training range.

Final Details Before I Buy a Complete System
JINX_1391 replied to lockon2015's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey lockon...I just finished my first ever PC build two weekends ago. I'm new to PC gaming, and wanted to build a PC specifically for DCS gaming. Also, video editing (was a selling point to the wife because she does a lot of video work). I spent about four months researching and asking questions. Literally started with only knowing how to search for things and basic PC use. In case you haven't been pointed there, may I suggest PC Part Picker. https://pcpartpicker.com/ You can completely build your PC, see all competitive prices, lots of guides, and lots of help. Plus the build part makes sure that you're choosing parts that will work with everything else you need. Also shows you how much power your system will be using and loads of other great info. I personally was going to go for the i5-6600K. Perfect CPU for what I needed for DCS. But ended up spending the extra $100 for the i7-6700K cause it fairs better for video editing. With the i7 and the GTX 970 (4gb) i get 110-120 FPS on high settings on NTTR (that's just running stock...haven't messed with any settings or even looked at OC'ing). Here is my PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/wwWXsY Also take a look at those monitors. I found them on sale at Microcenter, 144hz with 1ms of response for $240...!! -
Haven't seen that yet. That being said I'm still testing SP as well. Have you tried the "capture the last X amount of minutes" feature yet? Or are you just rolling footage? I tried the capture previous footage once, in game, and the camera locked looking at my pilots virtual crotch and the game froze. I'm sure all this was completely my fault, just want to know if you've had success.

First tour of NTTR map after building my first dedicated gaming/DCS PC. Went from playing at low settings getting 9-12 FPS to 110-120 FPS with everything on High. Here's a link to the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wwWXsY Let me know what you think of the vid, and also subscribe...cause community and I'm probably already subscribed to most of your channels (if not, I will return the favor). :joystick:

......still going to spray paint USMC over the outer markings.

This is normal/typical flight dynamics. I will say that I do not know how or to what degree this effects an F-15C (IRL or sim) but it is a basic flight principle. Yaw is a side effect of roll, and roll is a side effect of yaw. For example, if you hold your arms out like wings ( :pilotfly: ) and yaw left. Your right arm (wing) is now forward and your left is aft. That forward wing now has increased airflow, an conversely less airflow on the left wing. Increased airflow creates lift; the forward wing will always want to roll upwards. Increased speed will increase airflow making the roll seem like an automatic response to yaw. Hope that helps.

I need a Combat Flight Sim for my PC

I have very little issues running DCS with that same video card. Some issues with MP, but SP runs fine. Here are my benchmarks for DCS with that vid card on a Dell laptop: DCS 1.2 (SP) = 15-20 FPS w/ setting at High/Med DCS 1.2 (MP) = Same as above DCS 1.5 (SP) = 12-15 FPS w/ settings at Med/High DCS 1.5 (MP) = 13-17 FPS w/ settings at Med/High DCS 2.0 (SP) - 10-12 FPS w/ settings at Low DCS 2.0 (MP) - 8-11 FPS w/ settings at Low Usually the game lags too much on landing approach or when there is a lot of ground traffic. -
Hola! I've found that 90% of the problems I have with the X52 Pro can be solved this way: 1) My Computer > Control Panel > Devices > X52 > Properties (right click) a. From here, for your specific issue, look for the MFD tab. Should be some enable/disable check boxes 2) Something in DCS is conflicting with the X52. Typcially this is solved by clearing everything out of the X52 column before setting up the profile in DCS. Edit Spoke before I researched! Just found this; Try changing the mode selector on the stick, it should change the profile on the MFD - hopefully to a non-shift profile. Cheers!

DCS: Gaming PC Build - Complete
JINX_1391 replied to JINX_1391's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yup, I work in Baltimore. Edit: Welcome to the forums BTW. Here are the rest of the specs: CPU - i7-6700K GPU - GTX 970 4G DIMM - 16GB (2x8Gb) DDR4 MEM - 1TB Mech HD for storage & 250GB SSD for OS + DCS -
Merge, merged, or the merge..when two aircraft (assuming they are in opposition of each other) are close enough together that the seemingly appear as one radar contact. Otherwise a seriously close dogfight = the merge

DCS: Gaming PC Build - Complete
JINX_1391 replied to JINX_1391's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The case is Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Chassis PH-ES614L White. I just noticed in the Pics that a portion of the LED strip has sagged down by the CPU cooler. That shouldn't be there... The case is stunning, considering I am hedging this build to carry my DCS needs for the next 5-6 years, the investment was worthy of the result. -
I completed my first ever PC build over the weekend. After finding DCS 6+ months ago, learning, and playing my previous set up was - well lacking. I was enjoying the game on a Dell laptop (i7-4510U / Intel® HD Graphics 4400) quite nicely. On 1.2 I could get 12-17 FPS on med/high, 10-13 FPS on med with 1.5, and 9-12 FPS on 2.0 with everything to low. Thank you everyone on here that helped me with the questions I had in my other threads, and thank you in general for everyone in the DCS community. It took me a long time to come over to PC gaming, and the community here with DCS played a huge role. A video is forthcoming from the build process, but here are a few end result pics. BTW...now gaming on 2.0 at 110-120 FPS on high.

Looks like it was a partial failure and/or the hydraulics system has a redundancy that takes over just for the control surfaces. Some few other posts on a similar thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144639 I've had it happen to me after eating a friendly AIM-9; knocked out (or partial) hydraulics, HUD, all displays in the pit, and took my nose cone as a memento. Engines still worked and hydraulics to the control surfaces helped me get back to the airbase.

He's trolling this thread. Obviously he's going to deny it, all trolls do to get more lulz. I waited until he came back and re-posted. Now it is blatant. The Sad Truths of Internet Trolls (http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/weirdwebculture/f/what-is-an-internet-troll.htm): 1) Trolls are immune to criticism and logical arguments. True trolls cannot be reasoned with, regardless of how sound your logical argument is. 2) Trolls do not feel remorse like you and me. They have sociopathic tendencies, and accordingly, they delight in other people having hurt feelings. 3) Trolls consider themselves separate from the social order. 4) Trolls do not abide by etiquette or the rules of common courtesy. 5) Trolls consider themselves above social responsibility. 6) Trolls gain energy by you insulting them. 7) Trolls gain energy when you get angry. 8) The only way to deal with a troll is to ignore him, or take away his ability to post online. I'm sorry ironmaiden that your post/thread was hijacked.
