Wife: Hey, how to you bring up comms to request taxi and take off? Me: use the "\" on the keyboard the the F-keys to navigate through the options. Wife: Can you show me? Me: (completely stops doing whatever in DCS) Yes! Of course I can. You know I like when you take interest in what I do. (Brings up comm menu, goes through the different menus) Wife: I didn't see "wife" as an option...is that like F12 or something? Me: Huh? No. Wife: Ah, so that's why you can buy all this with out permission. Me: I'll report the bug.

Yes. Engines off, power can be on. ....and the rest mentioned above must apply too.

F-15C - How to apply brakes without going off the runway?
JINX_1391 replied to DerekSpeare's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Sorry if this is way off...but during aero-braking isn't the airbrake almost useless? Wouldn't the airflow around the aircraft bypass the airbrake altogether because of the angle of the aircraft? Flow.pdf Please don't be discouraged about the intense graphics and technical nature...but this is what I am thinking. -
F-15C - How to apply brakes without going off the runway?
JINX_1391 replied to DerekSpeare's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Sweeper is spot on. Glide slope and AOA are the name of the game regardless of weight as far I know. The heavier the bird the more finesse, the lighter the bird the more forgiving. -
Like ENO said read the server briefing; some are very well detailed and others are pretty lax. Another thing to look at is the amount of people in the servers while viewing the list of active servers. The more pilots, the more chance for interaction. I always appreciate a courteous pilot and try to reciprocate the same. Sometimes you'll see players take off from taxi-ways or other airfield violations but that rarely happens. More frequently players takeoff/land in the opposite runway than what ATC cleared as active. Not sure if that is ignorance of laziness to sometimes avoid the long taxi. Also remember that ATC is AI. Sometimes you're asked to hold for no reason, or no response for clearance requests..common since typically applies. You'll just have to get on, see what the culture is like and try to make some connections. The community is great; in-game and here on the forums. Never be afraid to reach out. Cheers!

New to DCS and PC Gaming/Build Help
JINX_1391 replied to JINX_1391's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I think the quick fix would be upgrading my laptops RAM. Seems easy enough and cheap (in comparison). I did upgrade my part picker list to the i5 6600K after reading about the capabilities and the trade-offs with moving to the i7. The price tag for the build is about what I expected considering I wanted to build an almost stand alone DCS rig. And the wife was respective to the idea, although we did not discuss price. She does a lot of video editing/rendering and is nervous that DCS will melt our laptop. I also have a huge computer case (full) from my previous desktop. It was the off-the-shelf what ever XPS Dell model desktop that we owned prior to moving to laptops. This thing is tons of room and planned on up-cycling that for the build. I am assuming that computer cases and components are pretty much built for compatibility. And I wont run into any Dell proprietary fit-form-and-function challenges that would prevent me from using the case..? I know I will have to take a look at the cooling and air circulation situation. -
Here are three good videos that cover radar and radar guided missiles. #1 [ame= ] [/ame] #2 [ame= ] [/ame] #3 [ame= ] [/ame] As for what keys do what; you can find that info by searching the forums here or your in game key settings. Cheers!

I'm new to DCS and PC gaming for that matter. When I started with DCS 1.2 a couple months ago my off the shelf laptop could handle the game without any issues. After the release of 1.5 I noticed I had to tweak the settings lower to play, and now with 2.0 I'm at the lowest possible settings. From what I understand this is because the new game engine draws more from the GPU vs the CPU (please correct me if I am wrong). Current set up: Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_ltsb.150715-0840) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: Inspiron 5748 BIOS: A04 Processor: Intel® Core i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.0GHz GPU: Intel® HD Graphics 4400 Memory: 8192MB RAM Available OS Memory: 8096MB RAM Page File: 6145MB used, 4634MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.03.9600.17415 64bit Unicode DxDiag Previously: Crashed in system information (stage 4). Re-running DxDiag with "dontskip" command line parameter or choosing not to bypass information gathering when prompted might result in DxDiag successfully obtaining this information I'm tempted to build a stand-alone gaming rig, but want to know if I'm going about this the right way. 1) Would getting an external GPU rig for my current laptop set up solve me issues just fine? 2) Am I missing something with my current set up? 3) This is what I was planning for an almost dedicated DCS gaming computer: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KhmfQ7 Not sure if that is overkill, but what I was thinking after my research. Thanks all!

Recalling from memory; but I thought besides the two wing-tip mounts the F-5E had four under-wing and one center-line. So you can build an AA config of 2x, 4x, and 1x. Plus I know I've seen a pic somewhere of an F-5 with a rocket pod mounted to the center-line.

Ok, which HOTAS should i get?
JINX_1391 replied to Jogui3000's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was in the same boat as you about a month ago; very similar funding situation. Although I live in the US so I was fortunate enough to be able to check Craigslist everyday or so for people selling their HOTAS. Picked up a slightly used X52 pro for $60 and could dedicate the rest of my funds to a Trackir (still waiting to purchase that though). For all the issues from review and videos I find it miles better than the MADCATZ FLY5 stick I was using...and that stick was perfect for the F-15C (FC3 module). -
The data on the MiG is inaccurate. #nevergetsold
-
Thanks for the info/find. I used to run a training mission in FSX SuperBug where I would practice flight proceedures, take offs, and landings from Fallon to Reno, down to McCarran, and then back to Fallon. Looking forward to revisiting the approach again.

Are you looking at aerobatics or F/A use? Interesting little plane. We have one of the USMC Aggressor F-5's parked across the street...oddly enough in a warehouse parking lot.

New pilot help with audio cues and more.
JINX_1391 replied to MaxMunsta's topic in F-15C for DCS World
If you're talking about the audio cues from the Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) check out this video. Although it is a video on how to change the cues, it covers the original alerts and their meaning from the RWR. With regards to HOJ and ECM burn though I have to yield to someone with more experience than I have. Or try searching the forums....here's a good thread I found http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=140203&highlight=HOJ Flares are used against infrared missiles (IR) or heat seeking. The flare is a heat decoy that draws the attention away from your aircraft's hot engines. You will not receive any notification of an IR missile launch; if you do see one, chop the throttles to idle and spam flares while maneuvering. Chaff is used against radar guided missiles. There is a whole slew of info on the forums here about active and semi-active missiles. You will receive a RWR warning once the system detects the missile. -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 3
JINX_1391 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
1.5 did show significant increases to FPS (FAPS per second). -
Found a PS2 game last night while cleaning out my office. By far the best flight sim I've ever played on a console is Aero Elite Combat Academy. Training modules, fixed and rotary wing, throttle control, landing, take off, easter eggs....need to dig out my PS2. I also enjoyed the realism of Apache: Air Assault on the XBOX 360. If you haven't flown on Aero Elite, do yourself a favor and try to find it.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 3
JINX_1391 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Bite the bullet and join in. I've learned and improved 10 fold flying this event. There is a space, slot, and task for every skill level. -
I only have the FC3 module right now, so typically I take out the F-15C. Working on the proficiency rather than complexity at first. I can second that, but before that was using my earbuds that came with my cell phone. I think you can get a pair of those (the type with a mic) for under 20.

I've generally found the environment to be welcoming and inclusive. As a new guy I generally log onto TS before I even launch DCS. For example, with Blu Flag I can join in and get the rhythm of the events as everything is loading. That way once I join in on the game I'm not asking a bunch of questions and interrupting the game at hand. On other servers I usually ask if anyone wants to go out as a group or two ship and doesn't mind taking along a new guy. Some people jump at it, others don't. I just try to stay outa the way of the really experienced players and do what is needed of me if they need something.
-
Is that in the mission editor on SP mode, then save, and they will be available in MP? Can you clarify for a new guy? I've tinkered around and assumed the MP load-outs were standard and everyone had to go through the pain of right-clicking and setting up before every flight. Thanks JINX
-
Interesting concept. Looking at the different examples of IRL load outs it doesn't look like there is a standard preference. Seems like something someone would have spent time on studying the advantages/disadvantages. It also may be preference of the ordnance guys arming the aircraft. Maybe it's a pain to mount 9's or 120's in a specific position on those pylons and that's why we see the 9's inboard.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 3
JINX_1391 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Thanks again all for last night. I wish I could have stayed on longer but I was having game issues again. I was flying the entire time with a blacked out cockpit (no gauges or instruments). At least I was able to avenge Sgat's death by getting MAV and his wing-man. Cheers! -

New To DCS World and Some Questions
JINX_1391 replied to Mil 24 Hind Mind's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I think we can all agree on the importance if the above statement when it comes to purchasing an item. I am new to DCS as well (about three months now). You'll find a very supportive and immersive community. I was super intimidated by the amount of knowledge, hardware, time, and learning required to play this game. But that was the challenge I have always wanted from a flight sim. Here are some tips to catch you up to speed on somethings I've learned: 1) Everyone is helpful and the community is glad you are here. I have yet to run across anyone who is elite'est and has no time for new guys. 2) On a scale of 1-10 I probably am about a 3 when it comes to knowledge about computer gaming. Any questions I have I search the forum here and find an answer. If not I post the question and within a day I have support and resolution from some great users. 3) With each additional component of hardware you buy the sim becomes more enjoyable. I would say that at the very least some type of flight stick is needed. A HOTAS system is great, but you need to weigh your return on investment. I use a F.L.Y. 5 Stick on a laptop, with an additional keyboard plugged in with no issues. My joystick is even missing a button on the top. The point is an expensive HOTAS with zillions of buttons is not required. But there are many courses of thinking and opinions on the forums here about what the best setup is. 4) For every frustrating thing that happens (game crash, lag, frame rate, re-installs, un-mapping, quickly approaching terrain) I still find myself on the edge of my seat with this game, heart beating, and loving everything about this sim. -
Yes, I hold down LCtrl then tap Pause. I get like three or four lines in yellow on the top left of the screen; the top line is the FPS. If I LCtrl+pause again it gives me much more information and I feel like I'm looking into the Matrix. After a third tap all the info goes away. It's confusing because I assume that 9 or 10 FPS would be horrible, but I can taxi around in high traffic and not notice a difference like in 1.2. Even tested fast and low through the mountains with no noticeable lag.
