  1. CAS = Control Augmentation System. The F-15 is dual hydraulic and FBW; making up the CAS. I think what SinusoidDelta was trying to say is the CAS system was correcting the aircraft for you. Thus the CAS applied the correct amount of roll/yaw/pitch to negate the "feel" of an extended gear. For the weight vs. drag discussion. The gear weighs the same extended or retracted, so no physical weight is ever gained (although I have had a few losses before). More drag is created with extended gear, and as a result the aircraft may feel "heavier" because of the change in aerodynamic posture. I hope that helps and I'm not too far off with my logic.
  2. HUD Color Change: RCtrl + H HUD Brightness Up: RCtrl + RShift + H HUD Brightness Down: RShift + RAlt + H Also check in settings>controls>F-15C and make sure they are not mapped to something else
  3. What did you jam it all into? Case?
  4. DCS is steep in some regards for the learning curve. There's lots of info in the forums and a really great community. Here's a breif thread from another user who was surprised about the amount of study required: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=155142
  5. You could also try the Memphis Belle technique. If that doesn't work, I hear there is a cross use of the F-15C Ground Threat Procedure that may be applicable..? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2631098#post2631098
  6. Sorry if this is naive in my logic, but would three of a four ship really fly blind? Wouldn't it be better for each ship to be actively searching, say each at a different part of the engagement area in front of them? This is even more unbelievable to me. Tactically this makes no since even before I start to think about radar/weapon perimeters. This "move" effectively neuters the weapon deployment range for all ships in the flight. Lead two aircraft can only engage targets within radar range 15-20km BEHIND them. Please find where you read about this tactic I would like to see it. I can't tell if this is for real or not...help...two's blind.
  7. The necro-find was the users first post. Decides this is what I need to chime in on, a year later, and almost gets it right with his suggestion. Wizardry!

    F-15E?

Agreed...but just imagine dropping into those mountains and valleys - fast, low-profile...deadly. (inserts cassette tape into thigh mounted cassette player)
  9. Just a joke in the spirit of how competitively sided this poll is getting. I'm not personally offended so no harm. Cheers!
  10. This +1
  11. Yo Vampyre...you forgot to mention, or maybe even notice the deadliest discriminating weapon that sorts the AV-8B to the top. Take a look back at the AV-8B pics; it's there mounted center-line on top of the fuselage just forward of the engine intakes.
  12. No other reason other than.. RAH!
  13. Language used by F-15C pilots in such away that causes discomfort or irritation to the ground target. If that doesn't work..
  14. Lenux you can find these mods by searching around (>Google >DCS F-16/18/4 mods). Some are ok, some are better. But as said before most are skin mods, so the external is whatever you want but the cockpit is a FC3 aircraft. And I think the same flight model physics apply. For example if you DL an F-4 skin over an F-15 FC3 aircraft, the plane will look like a F-4 but preform the same as the F-15. Also these are user mods, so nothing official. And I would expect to pay for the better/more complete mods as these are typically laborious in nature to create.
  15. My selected case is compatible for the H100i, and still an option for a cooling component. What loads/processes on the CPU cause the overclocking? Does running DCS, flight sim peripherals, trackir, teamspeak, and the coffee maker draw more power requirements from the CPU? It seems like dburne's set up is very similar to what I want to build so I am guessing that running all of the above is within limits without sacrificing performance.
  16. ....and great amount of work and effort for that tiborrr (unfortunately there is not an emoji that conveys the amount of WIN for your work on the data collection). I've been back and forth on the fan vs. water cooled CPU options. I think if I stay with the i5 a fan is adequate. But with an i7 I would look more into water cooling the CPU. The other side of the coin is after I complete the gaming rig I promised my wife I would build her a video production/editing rig. So I was already planning i7 with a lower/mid powered GPU.
  17. Yup, just wanted to make sure all I was figuring this out. All those PC component numbers can quickly start to swirl in the head if you're new to this. Thanks for the great break-out and info dburne & Gladman!
  18. My local PC store just dropped a sales on INTEL cpu's. Specifically the the i5-6600K and the i7-6700K. I've had the i5-6600K on my list as I feel it is what I need to build a specific rig for my DCS needs. But now with the current sale there is a $100 difference between the two. I don't know enough about the granular differences so I'm looking for some help. Over the last few months I've been researching PC parts and building my knowledge. So my gut reaction is stay with the i5, and a better option would invest the extra $100 in the GPU. Thoughts? http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jinx1391/saved/L2z323
  19. That is awesome! I work there and my office overlooks the airfield. The A-10s and the other random visiting aircraft are always the highlight of the day on our office. Nice to find another MD/Baltimore area sim'er as I am new to DCS as well. Cheers!
  20. Maybe move this to the DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 sub-forum. It would gather the proper attention there. Cheers!
  21. Since you are a modern fighter guy (as am I) the investment will certainly be worth is once the F-18 and F-14 are rolled out to DCS. I personally do not have them; I use the twist on stick (giggity) but that doesn't mean they are not on list at some point in the future. Here's a good read on ACM/BFM https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_fighter_maneuvers
  22. You can also map the rudder to the keyboard (that will take away from the HOTAS concept). I've also found that I use the rudder quite a bit more now that I'm learning the A-10. Also your level of immersion comes into play. With that in mind, yes some ACMs require rudder input.
  23. Make that three. I recently found DCS about four months ago. It is (so far) what I've been searching for in a Military flight SIM my entire life. What DCS offers takes time and has a steep learning curve. But so does doing this IRL, and that is what this community strives for. As close as we can get to IRL while sitting in our basements ignoring our families. Learn how you like to learn; watch videos, ask questions, read, google stuff, practice, and make it what you want. Above all else have fun...remember what brought you to DCS and the frustrating stuff will be worth it. Don't be afraid to get on MP. Get on MP, talk to other people, and ask questions. Can't wait to see you up there!
