Take off / Taxi straight line stability
Phantom_Mark replied to Phantom_Mark's topic in General Bugs
Maybe the fact I run with the wind etc on just exaggerates the above ...... Thx for the clarification, jack of all aircraft here and master of none, I do have at least a couple thousand hours on the F18 tho, and that did feel like it changed in ground handling stability, similar story with the A10C. I have never made a specific test for the above, so might try those tests now with the F18 and A10C, my most familiar rides, only did the F15 and F16 as I have been flying those the most recently. Take off / Taxi straight line stability

2 very different outcomes.... Clean missions, clean aircraft on the runway, 0 wind etc, take off, then drop straight into the pattern and land again. F15E, I assume NWS turns off automatically on that aircraft as all I seem able to do is cycle between normal and hi NWS, seemed to honestly go ok ? F16, following the advice above I quickly dropped the NWS - def felt better on take off but landing still felt weird multiple times, to the point I actually double check at the end NWS was still disabled as I tried to leave the active. So 2 thoughts here........previously I have never struggled, did ground handling change at some point the last few months maybe ?? maybe being punished for old habits I have not needed to correct before ?? F16 feels very unstable compared to the F15, which is somewhat expected, but I would think the F16 would have some natural positive toe angle in the main gear to help stabilise it , it surely isn't this wild in RL As I never usually run with 0 wind , adding that wind surely only exaggerates all the above ?? f15_clean.trk f16_clean.trk -
Take off / Taxi straight line stability

Sure thing mate np, ty. f16trg.trkJust a quick take off and a quick mess around and a landing, I let the plane do its own thing for a moment towards the end of the runway, just to show how badly it seems to pull if you don't micro manage the rudder. Just skip the middle of the trk whilst I shoot some stuff -

Take off / Taxi straight line stability

I will see about getting some grabs...........so if nobody else feels this maybe there is a problem elsewhere then, is all I can conclude - swerving off the runway trying to take off or taxi has become a frustrating habit lately for me tho. -
I just want to preface this that I have been flying DCS since day one, so not likely to be a user error I "think". A few updates ago now things started to feel different but I kept quiet as I guessed it was just a new "feature" or something, but in the past deviation on take off was something that barely featured at all, lateral / yaw stability from side winds was never really something that hit you. Now with all aircraft every take off feels like a disaster / micromanagement waiting to happen, with a lot of rudder and corrections above 80kn I can take off pretty straight but the levels of input are way beyond realistic or expected, I have of course tested with zero winds, and of course checked my input devices for drift etc, but still just the same ?? Is it me ? or do other have a battle at every take off with every aircraft now (and I have a lot) ??? everything feels like a P51 with no take off assistance basically Not a moan btw, just seeking clarification.

fixed 2.9 VR Spotting Dots - can't disable ?
Phantom_Mark replied to Phantom_Mark's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
ok thanks -
Sorry if this triggers someone, I have searched to no avail. The new spotting dots for VR implemented for 2.9 I didn't have an autoexec.cfg in that location, so created one in notepad and pasted that line into it. No joy, still got these horrible big dots all over the place, stand out even more to me as I play with no labels at all usually. Any ideas to get rid of these please ?? or maybe I did something else super dumb ?? null Improved “spotting dots” added (WIP): Increased dot size at high resolutions Zoom is not affecting dots size In order to disable new “spotting dots” and revert to previous logic user can put “DotRendererExperiment = False” in autoexec.cfg file located in \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\ Ps...I never posted this in bugs as just because I don't know how to turn it off doesn't automatically make it a bug - right ?

Phantom_Mark replied to Phantom_Mark's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Just found the manual actually, for anyone else looking and searching here, here is a link. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/upload/iblock/f4b/kx2ch5ix0ilve964dr5u1xbik4u2ekvn/DCS_F-15E_Manual.pdf -
I have the WinWing F15EX grips here, I was wondering if there is a reference for the real controls some place please so I can map things correctly if possible ? Thanks.

What to expect after owning a WinWing product for 1 year
Phantom_Mark replied to Terminator357's topic in Winwing
Had my Super Taurus and Combat and Takeoff since pre release, never had a single problem apart from a broken USB socket on the Super Taurus on arrival, I had to strip it and fix replace the socket myself after getting zero joy from WW - even under warranty ! I also have the F16EX handle...........if they could sort out their ordering and returns and warrant issues I would be completely happy, right now I feel like I am just taking a punt on things working out ok. -
Nose stability and the ability for that nose to hook into a turn properly is what I am feeling more than anything else here ?? Bear in mind the last 2 updates I have not paid massive attention to....so its maybe more than just the last on its own.

Bear with me, as this is hard to describe, so shooting from the hip here a little. I have been flying the F1 since it was released, in dribs and drabs (mostly due to time tbh), so I have seen the evolution of this model. Straight up front, I have been using a force feedback stick since the start, and these days a really nice powerful one as well, the reason I mention this is because it directly communicates how something flies so much more than a dead spring stick. I am using a bass shaker, and I have my setup configured for stall, buffet and AoA etc etc, I have things as nice as you could reasonably get them without spending 20k on a motion setup !! I think my setup is pretty good for getting the best out of most aircraft now, my experience being only limited by the quality of the module and how well I have setup all my equipment. Now, after that long winded explanation of context. In the early days I really struggled with the F1, I found the yaw stability really weird quite honestly, I also didn't find it was possible to make nice turns without the front end going all weird and wobbly/floaty , this in part may have been due to me over flying it having stepped out of an F18, but it might just have been due to other reasons - IDK. Progressively over the last few updates I have noted the improvements in the module, but today......today ? It is like a transformation for me, now I can get the nose into a corner and balance the AoA and loading purely on my stick and it really feels like it turns, the nose no longer wobbles and floats around weirdly like it subjectively for me did before, it is like the CoG has changed or the the relationship of the pivot point on the flight model - it is beautiful, feels completely natural and so easy to fly properly, but now with intuition. The F18 had this same trait until before the last FM update, which is a shame as it felt so good before, now it feels a little dead and lacks a little soul, just like the F15E does, another aircraft that gets this so RIGHT is the F14, that also communicates so nicely. If I were to liken the flight model to a car it is like driving a perfectly balanced RWD chassis on the throttle in the bends, with the car pivoting where you want it based on your steering and throttle inputs, its just beautiful, so Aerges, IDK what changes you made, but man it transformed the experience for me, bravo. I am sure there is a million other improvements to be had in all sorts of different things, but in terms of just flying and turning etc its so much more enjoyable now.

A lack of communication about that intent from WinWing is exactly why I bought the Rhino, it is honestly awesome, I use a WinWing F16EXE grip on the Rhino ironically. Plugs straight into the Rhino with full native support, I could also plug straight in my Thrustmaster grip or my Virpil as wanted, all with native support no messing.
-
I just wanted to add here for anyone else in the market, I now have a Rhino (A few months back now), it is everything and more than I ever wanted from a FFB stick, the community have added a ton of FFB features as well, it really makes the whole thing come alive subtly in the background - which is exactly what it was intended to do.

I know some work has been done in this area, but I took hits from behind 2 sets of dense tree lines and also whilst masking behind the permiter wall at Akrotiri in a little training mission I setup, I know exactly where the enemy are so had planned to use the wall and trees to conceal myself, I have run this mission previously (last Open Beta version) and not felt it was so bad maybe >? I believe they were firing the AT11 Sniper ? from the BTR's ? Track included Ps this Apache is awesome. ah64 missile.trk

Very much agree, I have genuinely enjoyed and been pleasantly surprised how much I have enjoyed using George when the fancy takes me, to have that ability to fly slower would be awesome, even 10/20 would be great tbh ?
-
For me the stand out feature is the nose authority, if you can fly it with that in mind it is able to give anything a run for its money if you play to its strengths, IMO. Last time lost against the Tomcat was merely because I flew outside my corner speed sweet spot, my error, and the guy in the Cat knew exactly where he needed to be to nail me.

I thought I would up the ante a little. Performance take off to FL35, low fuel, flameout, dead stick landing back into where I took off, POV footage in VR from the PICO 4 02:07 - the vid is still encoding 4k, so if it is potato vision when you see it, it hasn't finished encoding the pretty version yet
