  1. "Voulez vous..." ;) Seriously, I don't know what exporting features the final version will have, but there are some indications: 1. The "Lua exporting in DCS" tutorial here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=567&scr=default&lang=en The bottom part of it has been updated about a year ago, but it is likely to change again, see: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=412207&postcount=2 The tutorial lists a lot of information that you can export from the Sim. 2. The "Physical Cockpit Interface Package" that will be availabe for pit builders: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=31052 Hope that helps. :)
  2. Just found this extensive comparison review of 100 (!) CPUs on a french hardware site. Even if you don't understand French the charts should be pretty self-explaining. http://www.matbe.com/articles/lire/1121/comparatif-de-100-processeurs/ Overall performance index: http://www.matbe.com/articles/lire/1121/comparatif-de-100-processeurs/page30.php Quite useful IMO.
  3. Moved this to the Mods section. :)

  5. Because the focus of the new DCS product line is on high fidelitly simulation, and Eagle thought that the medium-realistic aircraft of FC would not integrate well with the new high-realisitc aircraft in DCS. Just think about problems of fairness etc. in head-to-head multiplayer. Plus I guess that licensing issues would have been a factor as well.
  6. Fellas, PLEASE, GGTharos already asked you to stop the debate about SF and copy protection. The topic has been beaten to death and everybody knows the pros and cons, first of all ED, restating them over and over again is not going to help anybody. Please use other fourms if you really want to continue that discussion. And I would also like to remind you of forum rule no. 1.10: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en Please don't push it! Thank you! :)
  7. I don't understand a word of Polish, but that's great effort, thanks Kusch, alot of your compatriots will appreciate this!
  8. wowo, please read the stickies. The answer to your "question" is here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=539058&postcount=1 And if you are alluding to the demo, the most recent news about that are here (besides EvilBivol's open letter): http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=552656&postcount=10 I close this thread. :)
  9. It all depends on proper marketing. And of course the point of a demo is not to convince those who have already been convinced, i.e. "hardcore" simmers. It is targeted at people who are not sure if they want to buy a game, and, as you said in your edit, want to see if the gameplay suits their preferences or not. Plus you can check if your hardware is sufficient to run it. Usually customers should have the possibility to test a product before they buy it. And don't forget that DCS is not only targeted at hardcore simmers, but also more casual gamers that would enjoy games à la Ace Combat etc., and Sim newbies. So even if the flight sim community might be small (which I doubt actually, see FS series + add-on market for example), the possible market could be larger than just that community. New people might be attracted by the more arcade side of DCS, and if scalability and training tools are good, a lot will eventually end up delving into the intricacies of the simulation mode. But these people have to be convinced at first. That's why I hope the demo will include at least a part of the casual mode and the training section, as people who have tasted blood once will probably want more and more. ;)

    Acedy!

Sorry fellas for the late reply, I have been on holidays and just came back today. I really appreciate all your congrats, many thanks!!
  14. And I doubt people would just get a credit card to buy BS if they don't have any.
  15. Thanks for the note, Matt!! This will come in very handy for coop MP.
  16. Yeah, as Airway said, credit cards aren't as common in Germany as in the US, many people use so called "EC" (= electronic cash) cards for non-cash payment from their bank accounts, that's why they don't need an extra credit card (especially younger people and students). So Pay Pal would be a welcome addition, because in Germany you can recharge your Pay Pal account via bank transfer.
  17. Matt said somewhere on SimHQ that it will be below $60. Can't give you the link right now as the site is currently down.
  18. Yet another review about the HD4870 1GB: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/10/06/amd-ati-radeon-hd-4870-1gb/1

  22. As usual I'm repeating myself, anyway: Mission generated by dynamic campaign engine = off-the-peg suit. Mission created by imaginative designer = Haute Couture. ;) If you had read the available information about the mission and campaign editor as EvilBivol suggested you would have realised that neither the campaign nor the missions will be "static" (whatever that should mean exactly). Nudge nudge. >FAQ< To everybody else, for a (quite) good discussion about the pros and cons of a dynamic campaign engine and a good mission editor I can recommend reading this thread: http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=128905
  23. Afaik that is quite common.
  24. I looked through the Lua exporting tutorial on the main site and while it doesn't mention such a function (although iirc EvilBivol said somewhere that the tutorial will be updated before release) it seems that you will be able to get position coordinates (lat/long) and barometric/radar altitude for a given unit. Now if you could somehow read the terrain mesh files it would be possible to write a program that calculates distances and lines of sight between different player units and check if each LOS intersects with the terrain mesh. This way you could at least cover some of the variables affecting communication. I didn't see anything about selected radio frequency though, but since that is something pitbuilders would need I guess it will be possible to export them as well.
  25. A more simple alternative to this could be to provide a Lua function that tests if conditions for clear communications between two players are met (i.e. same frequency, line of sight, distance and whatever else is taken into account, just like between player and AI as it has been explained on the Ka-50 page) and returns true or false respectively. This way someone could write a tool using the Teamspeak SDK which mutes a player as long as communicating with him is impossible.
