  1. Interesting findings tekrc...it seems that the weights for the various weapon attachments/launchers may be a bit off or not included. I just noticed the problem with the AIM-54 launchers today when removing them from stations 4 and 5 and seeing no weight change. I will post this in the bug forum
  2. Hi BitMaster...thank you for the advice. I made another post about the CPU/GPU usage and ended up finding a solution that you can see here... https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3800251&postcount=15 I am getting excellent performance now in DCS with appropriate CPU and GPU usage. While the Hornet and DCS in general could you some more optimization, the problem for me was mainly on my end.
  3. Hi hazzer! I am not using VR but I did have a similar issue as you and made a post about it... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=232318 Take a look here at what fixed the issue for me and see if it helps you too...good luck! https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3800251&postcount=15
  4. Yes!! Thank you!! I was able to finally hook up for the first time once I slowed the speed of the tanker down! Maybe it was just luck but the slower speed seemed to make things more stable. Here are a few tips that I discovered... In the ME, I set the speed of the tanker to 317kts at 15,000ft and 344kts at 20,000ft which gave in-game IAS of 250 kts. Also, a little bit of a cheat that helped me with more of an exact awareness of my speed was to hit LCTRL+Y to bring up the bottom info bar. It displays your speed which for me, gave me more of an exact control over it and allowed me to better match the tanker. This will help until I get more proficient.
  5. Your weights may not be accounting for the weight of weapon rails/attachments, etc. Using the ME to find what fuel load I will be at for max trap weight, I use a specific weapons loadout and then slide the internal fuel slider to the left until total weight is under 54,000 lbs. Make sure to have empty drop tanks loaded when you do this. You can also mess around with different weapons loads by adding/subtracting missiles and write all these figures down to have handy for a quick reference when landing. The attached image below has been around the forums and includes the weights that might help you with your spreadsheet.
  6. I share your pain. The Hornet is incredibly easy for me as well mainly due to it's stability. I am all over the place with the Tomcat and just cannot get it trimmed up and stable. It seems that every throttle or stick movement needs trim adjustment which just sends me in an infinite chase for stability. I even tried cheating a bit by using the autopilot. I thought I could use altitude hold to at least get me nice and stable but even the Tomcat's autopilot fluctuates wildly before becoming stable so that didn't work.
  7. As a pilot, what exactly should we be telling Jester to do and what does he do automatically? I am specifically asking in regards to air to air missions...is there a fence-in checklist that would include what commands to tell Jester before starting a CAP mission or engaging bandits?
  8. Yes, you are right, but what I want to know is what the official US Navy procedure was in such cases. I can take them off in the mission editor which of course saves on weight but I don't know if it's realistic to do so.
  9. So it sounds like for carrier ops, setting the barometric pressure to the carrier and using the altimeter is the most accurate.
  10. When carrying a loadout of AIM-9 x2, AIM-7 x2, and AIM-54 x2, are the empty AIM-54 weapon rails on stations 4,5 left on or are they taken off? On the Hornet for example, I know it was standard to leave unused weapon pylons on the aircraft.
  11. I have had similar problems in the past and the solution can be any of the following: Increase the TrackIR speed setting Adjust the angle of the sensor and/or clip Play around with these until you get the desired viewing limits.
  12. What are everyone's thoughts on joystick curves for pitch and roll? I know it is a subjective topic and varies between sticks but I just wanted to get an overall feel if and what others were using. With FBW aircraft, curves haven't been really an issue and I was fine using no curves at all. So far, I feel the Tomcat may be a bit more sensitive and I was thinking that setting in some curves may help lessen that, especially while refueling. I don't know what a realistic curve setting would be though...
  13. Well said. ACM is hard enough even without this limitation. I always have aircraft labels on only. This is a simulator being viewed on a desktop monitor so there are some limitations. I am all for realism but labels make up for some of the viewing limitations. I also would like to spend my time having fun as well instead of struggling the entire time just trying to spot aircraft.
  14. In the Nellis Landing Instant Action Mission, it has a pattern altitude of 1,500 AGL. Is this correct or should we always be simulating a carrier Case I pattern with an initial altitude of 800 then down to 600?
  15. I don't know if anyone from Meteor reads these forums...but if you do, incredible work!!!!! The entire album is perfect for the Tomcat and really adds to the whole experience. I love this type of music and you guys really hit it out of the park! Thank you!
  16. Can anyone describe the use of SAS in regards to BFM? The manual says to turn roll SAS off for combat maneuvering. What is the procedure for when this is this done...and do you turn it back on once combat is finished?
  17. I use an X55 HOTAS which does not have a detent. Before release, I was concerned that this would be an issue but I have found that the sound is more than adequate for me. You may just have to give it time to get used to.
  18. Has anyone noticed that the aircraft data plate on the right canopy frame in the cockpit says F14A and not B....is this an error or is it because our Tomcat was originally an A model upgraded to a B?
  19. I have noticed this too...also, if the sun is at your back, the glare makes it even more difficult to see with it being so dark. Maybe this is accurate to how it really was.
  20. Ahh...eek...well, this needs to be fixed ASAP. I don't know if this issue can wait for the hot fix next week... I thought the wing sweep was acting strange earlier but now this confirms it.
  21. Great story! Thanks for sharing! I imagine the Tomcat will bring great experiences to many...a masterpiece indeed!
  22. Same here, will only display wire and no other info.
  23. Same here, no callouts at the carrier but I am getting altitude callouts on land when on final.
  24. +1 One of the very first things I noticed when I first got in the cockpit was how loud Jester was...I then quickly familiarized myself with the ICS volume knob. Lowering it is now atop my startup checklist.
  25. Ahh! That did it! Thanks Jabbers! I had it at 512...1024 is much better now... don't know why I didn't think of that. Hopefully this will help others as well!
