TrackIR with 144Hz GSYNC here...very much agree that 60 FPS is best for TrackIR smoothness. So if I set my monitor refresh rate to 60Hz, wouldn't using VSYNC in game work as a frame limiter as well?

What makes the VMFA(AW) squadrons that fly the D model "all weather" while the C model VMFA squadrons are not given the "AW" designation? I thought the F/A-18C was all weather capable as well.

Any update on having the correct USN/USMC helmets? It looks like it has been over a year since it was mentioned by Wags that it would be corrected.

When the Tomcat and Hornet both flew together in carrier air wings of the 90's and early 2000's, how did the Navy assign CAP missions?
-
First time flying the Hornet today after a few weeks away and I have noticed the flickering as well. Never happened before. They are random, black flashes, that last only a fraction of a second or so.
-
So after some more experimenting, I believe that I have found the issue...static Hornets, but only with shadows. My GPU usage drop and 30-40 FPS drop only occurs when on the ramp with mirrors on and/or looking at another Hornet. Away from static Hornets, my GPU usage is 100%, no matter what my FPS is. I found it strange and didn't really know why that was happening and still don't but my investigating did lead me to the real problem...shadows. With shadows turned off I am running near 144 FPS in the same situations before where I was looking at static Hornets.
-
After some more research, the performance issues are definitely from the static Hornets....specifically with shadows. FPS takes a hit with other static aircraft as well but not anywhere near what I see with the Hornet. With static Hornets present, I see a 30-40 FPS drop. What is strange though it that when I use F2 view to look at my own aircraft, I don't see a FPS drop. The Hornet's mirrors are another issue that needs addressing as well. With them on, I see an instant 30-40 FPS drop and if you add that to the static Hornet issue then I get severe performance issues with FPS down into the 40's. Another thing I noticed is that when I flip the mirrors back up, the FPS does not recover unless I change to another view and then back to the cockpit. No static Hornets, mirrors off, shadows low...my FPS will not drop below 100 with all other setting near max (Civ traffic Low, Visib range Ultra, MSAA 2x) Static Hornets present, mirrors off, shadows off...my FPS will stay around 144 with all other settings near max (Civ traffic Low, Visib range Ultra, MSAA 2x)

There is no network usage during these situations. The problem that I see is that my GPU is not compensating for the more demanding situation and FPS drop by increasing GPU usage...what is actually happening for me is that GPU usage and FPS drop are directly proportional to each other when I would think that GPU usage would need to increase when FPS drops.
-
With the Hornet, I am sometimes seeing my FPS drop into the 40's (mirrors on and looking at another Hornet on the ramp). When this happens, my CPU usage is in the low 70's and GPU usage is in mid 50's...is this right? I would have thought that CPU and GPU usage would hit 100% in demanding situations that drop FPS. I am not seeing that and in contrast, I am actually seeing CPU and GPU usage near 100% in less demanding situations where my FPS will max at 144.
-
Windows and NVIDIA are definitely set to max performance, drivers are up to date and I have never messed with my BIOS so don't know much there but everything seems okay. I only have my CPU overclocked but I will see what happens when I run it at stock. One thing I did notice though is that when my FPS drops into the 40's, my CPU usage is in the low 70's and GPU usage is in the mid 50's. I would imagine in situations where my FPS drops, the GPU would hit 100% to compensate but that isn't happening so something might be wrong there. On the other hand, in less demanding situations where my FPS is maxed at 144, my CPU and GPU usage nears 100%.
-
Yes, max performance is set. No SSAA and MSAA 2x, shadows low, civ traffic low, res cockpit display 512 every frame...all other settings maxed out. Sitting on the ramp at Nellis with my head turned and looking at another Hornet with mirrors down and my FPS will drop into the 40's...mirrors up and FPS rebounds to the 50's to low 60's. I turn my head and look straight without another Hornet in view and my FPS is up around 100. I look straight up at the sky or straight down into the cockpit and my FPS are maxed at 144. The same can be reproduced while sitting on a carrier deck. Flying over downtown Las Vegas, my FPS will be in the upper 60's to 70's while looking down at the ground. This is on an empty map. Maybe even with a 1080 Ti, 4.6GHz CPU and 32GB RAM, I can't get anywhere near max setting at 1440p and stay above 60 FPS in the Hornet.

How are you guys progressing on making optimizations to the Hornet so that it has less of an impact on PC performance? I know the Hornet is more demanding but I am seeing 30+ drops in FPS when looking out the cockpit at another Hornet and the same drop in FPS when using mirrors. Depending on the situation, my FPS fluctuates from 144 all the way down into the 40's.
-
I disable as well. When I use them I get a 30 or so drop in FPS. The mirrors need a lot of work overall.

What is the current status of the F-86 in 2.5? Is it still being fixed/supported? It has been many months since any fixes have been reported in the update logs. I still see many reported but unfixed bugs in the forum bugs section. Is the F-86 up to 2.5 standards in regards to internal/external textures and model?

You guys are right and I apologize if my comments seem a bit toxic and/or agressive. I believe a lot of my frustration is from seeing the same thing over and over....if it wasn't for the "2017. No exceptions" and "F-14 in 2018" comments from Heatblur, things might be going a little more smoothly. From a PR standpoint, it's all a lot of misinformation from the developer themselves. Again, I apologize but this is unfortunately how I feel about all of this.

What a mess...a real PR disaster for Heatblur. While it is dissapointing that it looks like the Tomcat will not be released this year, that isn't the disaster part. Heatblur was very clear that they were hoping for a release before Christmas but promised Winter 2019...that is fine and we are actually not even in that release window yet. I am perfectly fine with a release extending into 2019. What is most troubling is the lack of progress since the October 7th reveal and pre-sale start....no videos, system previews, progress updates, and release to certain members of the community for preview and promotion. So, here we are more than two months since Heatblur started taking money and now we are being told that there are still "critical" items to be done before release to early access. That information should have been shared October 7th and to be honest, I would have held onto my money a little longer. That lack of full disclosure is what is most disturbing and problematic, especially now that money has been exchanged.

For Those With Stutter-While-Flying: Check this out!
Donut replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in Game Performance Bugs
ALT+ENTER is the first thing I do in order to get the screen to fit properly. When I don't use ALT+ENTER I can click everything in the cockpit but the screen size/resolution are distorted. -
I create the autoexec.cfg with that exact line and my in-game FPS shows it locked at 50.

For Those With Stutter-While-Flying: Check this out!
Donut replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I tried this out but then could not click anything in the Hornet cockpit... -
Agree...the silence and lack of any information at all is a little disturbing. I (many others on here too) did buy it over two months ago now... I know that a release could be as late as March 20, 2019 but I was hoping at least for some updates, previews of features, the manual, etc...until then.

An instant Christmas classic...I now have a new bedtime story!

POLL: Air to Ground or Air to Air? Whats your thing?
Donut replied to Rhinozherous's topic in DCS 2.9
Air to Air for me...my happy place is going to be in a Tomcat with a 2-2-2 loadout flying a CAP. -
Excellent news! Thank you RAZBAM! This will be great for the Tomcat!

Newest F/A-18 lot 20 Wags video (not in the wrong forum..)
Donut replied to ChuckJäger's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Very interesting to see the Tomcat in Wags version of DCS...there is still hope for a Christmas miracle! -
I just wanted to say thank you for the great Tomcat demo. It was very well done and authentic as well as an impressive display of piloting skills. You guys did a great job and I had a lot of fun watching it.
