VFAT was today (Sunday 12/9) and I was hoping for a release date as well. Oh well, still wishing for a Christmas miracle. The VFAT Tomcat demonstration was incredible though. Very well done and authentic as well as an impressive display of piloting skills. Great job guys!

The F-5 has become a regretable purchase for me. The quality really is subpar but what is most dissapointing is that there are no plans to bring it up to better standards. DCS as a whole is forever evolving and improving. The same should apply to the aircraft. It seems like you buy an aircraft and fly for a bit but it is soon outdated and unsupported.
-
Yeah, DCS needs some adjustments to better support and represent US Navy aviation. I feel like we are flying in a USAF world.

[CANT REPRODUCE] IR Page flickers erratically
Donut replied to Alphamale's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have not seen flickering to that extent, but I did have the the IR screen flicker and stay green when the sun was at my 6'oclock high and would go back to normal when I turned slightly so the sun was not directly behind me and shining into the cockpit. I don't know if our issues are related... -
Thank you for the detailed response. Very sad, but understandable. It's unfortunate that NAS Fallon was overlooked when originally designing the NTTR map. I feel there is a lot enough useless area of the map to the southeast where the map area could have been shifted more northwest to include Fallon. Maybe the Hornet and Tomcat were unknowns back then and that is why we see a complete focus on USAF operations. If you look at DCS as a whole, it was not originally designed to support US Naval aviation. I agree...I don't even know how a third party would be able to successfully integrate a NAS Fallon map into the current NTTR. All third parties seem very busy for the foreseeable future as well with aicraft and other maps so I don't see this happening at all.

I understand that part but this happens even in situations where I am getting FPS in the 120's+ unlocked....still shows 50 something FPS when I use the maxfps=60 autoexec.
-
Hi David OC...how do you get FPS to lock at 60 using this method? Everytime that I have tried to set FPS at 60 with the autoexec file, the FPS displayed in DCS will show some number in the 50's.
-
Yeah, something doesn't look right there. I haven't used the JHMCS since the latest update but maybe someone else can comment if they are having the same issue. The only thing I can suggest is try deleting your fxo and metashader2 files in your username/saved games/DCS directory to see if that resolves the issue.

This is more telling than anything. Since the reveal back in October, we haven't really heard or seen anything new. There was talk of videos highlighting the different systems as well as releasing the Tomcat to some people for review and publicity...none of that has even happened yet. I am wishing for a Christmas miracle but I don't think they are even close to releasing the Tomcat...I hope I am very wrong but we are about two weeks before Christmas and I have yet to see anything that tells me otherwise.

Can you provide a screenshot? What is your monitor resolution? Is the HMD knob turned all the way to the right for max brightness?
-
Great ideas...it would be a dream come true for sure. I like your aircraft selection as well but would like the Avenger to be flyable. Maybe someday...
-
No way to have US Navy ranks yet. As a whole, DCS is poorly optimized for naval aviation and it feels like we are flying in a USAF world, but hopefully that changes soon.

Options are always good but fixing all the refueling bugs with the KC-135 and KC-130 along with the with the new basket physics and S-3 model could solve a lot of our difficulties. Hopefully Heatblur's KA-6 gives us a good representation of refueling as well.
-
Well said and thank you for giving me a different perspective. I believe that threads like this keep popping up though because communication could be better and much more clear...especially now that we have actually paid for the Tomcat. Tell us why there is a delay and/or what the actual hold up is to releasing it. I think the majority of us would be understanding and much more tolerant and supportive of delays if we knew what was actually going on.
-
It's mind boggling how they were predicting a release last Christmas and here we are a year later and still no Tomcat. Why are they so hesitant to release it? Look at the Hornet and what state it was released in and what it's current state is. I feel another year gone by hurts Heatblur's reputation more than just finally releasing it in whatever state it's in. I am beginning to question Heatblur's ability to give us a quality representation of the F-14. I hope I am proven wrong.
-
Release before Christmas is the best case scenario for everyone, including Heatblur...but time is quickly running out. There is still hope for a Christmas miracle and I wish Heatblur the best of luck!

Very well said...DCS is becoming USN focused right now and the Hornet and Tomcat are/will be the flagship modules. They need a realistic and relevant home base and training area. The NTTR map and Nellis AFB is currently not realistic for us virtual naval aviators. Please let us try to keep this focused on NAS Fallon. Thank you.
-
Agreed, additional options are very much needed to make it more user friendly and functional. I am all for realism and applaud ED for their implementation of the AGM-65, however; this is a simulation and we are limited in function by the various HOTAS currently in use.

Terrible news. I hope everyone is okay...one rescued so far. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/12/05/marine-f-18-fighter-refueling-tanker-crash-japan.html
-
Very much agreed. Let this thread be the start of a petition to get NAS Fallon developed and into DCS. The location of NAS Fallon is already within the boundaries of the NTTR map but it is just outside of the detailed area of the map. It is approximately 68 nm to the northwest of Minas airport. The detailed portion would have to expanded only one grid square to the northwest to include NAS Fallon.
-
Look in your control settings and whatever you have assigned to "TDC depress"...I believe the default keyboard assignment is ENTER and of course you can assign any HOTAS button to that as well, however; I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to configure my HOTAS for this. I have an X-55 and use the mouse nipple for slew and the "E" button above is for TDC depress. Unfortunately, I cannot use my thumb to slew the TDC and hit the other button to depress it at the same time. All of my other HOTAS buttons are in use so I have yet to figure out a solution. To complicate things, with my thumb on the mouse nipple to slew the TDC, I am limited to how far my other fingers can reach. A solution to this is getting the Thrustmaster Warthog which I believe has a button depress on it's mouse nipple as well but that is an expensive fix.
-
With the IR MAVS, you have to press down on the TDC at the same time for it to slew.

AI refuel command - AI crashes into tanker
Donut replied to ScopeDope's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
Hmm...well, at least it's a step in the right direction. 1 for 3 isn't bad for baseball but for crashing into the tanker...I am sure we will see some improvement to the AI behavior. Update: I just tried it out and it worked perfectly; although, I just had one wingman with me. -
Excellent! Thank you for listening ED and providing a fix for this issue!
