Can anyone shed light on the differences in aerodynamic drag between the K4, D-9, and IX? I'm just curious about which airframe cuts through the air better.
-
These latest images look like they have the new (2.5) lighting system. Would I be correct in thinking that?

I had my first experience flying in the 109 today, and my first experience in a prop aircraft in DCS. Here's how it felt: Amazing sense of immersion, the vibration, the sound, the somewhat archaic and cluttered cockpit. I think the 109 captures the sense of power better than a lot of the jet modules. I was expecting it to be slow, but rolling in the throttles simply unleashes this incredible sense of force through the airframe. It's a late war variant, I know, but it just motors up into the sky, and is far more slippery than I had anticipated on decent. It feels totally different to the IL2 series, which was the last time I had flown a 109. I now feel like this is something to be feared both as its pilot, and as an opponent. It also feels full of potential, like the distance between ace and novice are oceans apart. In short, I'm totally surprised by this module, hugely impressive!

Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Experiences?
hughlb replied to hughlb's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Cool, thanks for letting me know. MiG-21 deactivated. What about the F-5E or other modules? -
I'm building a home cockpit out of PVC and hardwood. After a trip to my local hardware store, I noted that there is little difference in flex between 50mm and 40mm PVC pipe, at lengths of 1 meter (which is greater than any of my individual segments). Is there any reason to go with 50mm, or would 40mm be sufficient? I've modelled a rough design of the basic frame below.

You guys should definitely have a read of this thread, a lot of people are having issues who use FFB devices: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=170867 Some, including myself, have found a temporary workaround by disabling the FFB for a device, via Regedit. This should get trim working until Belsimtek work out a fix.
-
It's not an issue with the indicator - both the in-cockpit indicator and the overlay (r-ctrl+enter) show the needle moving up and down. The issue is it's not affecting (not linked to) the aircraft pitch in any way.
-
Yep, trim is not working for me at all, I did a straight and level at constant speed, and ran the trim to its maximum positive and negative value, and the aircraft didn't move at all. I run a Logitech G25 with FFB for Assetto Corsa, and use the pedals as rudders - I think it's probably the FFB on the wheel, but I'm not sure how to fix it without disabling the wheel FFB entirely, which will affect its usage in other games.. any suggestions?

I have been looking into purchasing a flight sim rig/chair, but all the options - Obutto, Volair (and some limited domestic alternatives) are either hideously overpriced and under-featured, or shipping is too large to justify. I take it there are people who have built their own, what are my options? Pay $1500 aud for a Volair, or embark on a DIY adventure?

I though the plan was an update for Nevada after 1.5.4? I'd like 2.5 as well, but I seem to remember reading that Nevada is getting updated first - works well for the F-5, given it's association with the NTTR.
-
With every passing week, it makes me feel like the last five months of 2016 are going to be increasingly busy, and increasingly news and content rich - 2.5 and all attributed engine and Caucasus improvements, the Hornet, Spitfire, Hormuz, Carrier ops - all have been quietly mentioned from time to time, but the hype train hasn't really left ED's station with any of these yet - There's been some pre-hype by Matt of the Hornet and now 2.5, but nothing meaty... yet.
-
Isnt the terrain mesh resolution higher on Nevada? Will the 2.5 update bring Caucasus terrain mesh up to the same quality and technology?
-
From The Battle Simulator website "Other aircraft are in development such as the F-16, F/A-18, and AH-64" - http://www.thebattlesim.com/ That's not to say we, the general public, will ever get the module. But it looks like ED are doing something F-16 related, for someone.
-
Thanks Bedouin and Dave. I reckon I've heard some of your aircraft flying around when I was staying in the Margaret River once - best part of the wine tour. Thanks for your service
-
If 2.5 is bringing new terrain tech, then wont that assist in dense areas of the map? It certainly works really well in Vegas, and in fact the alpha is running faster than the beta for me. Id imagine this issue will be improved significantly with 2.5.

Only "one sweaty swede" caught my girlfriend's attention in this sentence. Whilst I salivated over the latter part.

12/08/2018 - Release of RAAF Pack 2.0 - 3SQN A21-17 https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3301625/ A21-17 appears as it did in June 2017. This low visibility scheme is indicative of any 2010’s 3 Sqn Hornet, and represents the final year of the Hornet in 3 Sqn service, before the remaining aircraft were transferred to 77 Sqn to make way for the F-35A. The tail displays the 3 Sqn eagle carrying a bomb logo, with the Southern Cross backdrop, modernised from the mid 2000’s to have a more defined appearance. The fuselage arrows are inverted in colour, with the 3 Sqn eagle crest as the centre-point. Many of the panels have been repainted and show varying amounts of paint fade. There are minimal fluid deposits on the wings and tail. The most notable element is the anti-slip surface on the leading edge extensions, which is inverted from its usual black or faded gray appearance. 27/07/2018 - Release of RAAF Pack 2.0 - 77 SQN A21-49 70th Anniversary https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3301363/ A21-49 appears as it did between January 2012 and February 2013, where it featured at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon in Victoria. In 2011, members from No. 77 SQN were asked to come up with a design to be painted on a Hornet to coincide with the Squadrons 70th Anniversary celebrations. The scheme was designed by 77 SQN personnel, LAC Nicholas Pearsall, CPL Aaron Somerville and SGT Chris Henderson. The scheme has several key features built around the 77 SQN FS-14062 satin green base. On the vertical stabilisers we see the 77 SQN “grumpy monkey” accompanied by the squadron motto “swift to destroy” with the hornet silhouette. The checkerboard pattern is reflective of the green and white checkerboard pattern seen on earlier 77 SQN schemes, including Gloster Meteor aircraft deployed to Korea, as well as Sabre and Mirage III fighters. On the left side of the nose, there is a placard listing the Battle Honours for 77 SQN, from the Second World War, through to Korea. Less prominent, is the inverted (white) warning signage around the cockpit. It is worth noting that despite the high visibility commemorative paintwork, the majority of the aircraft is still painted in the 77 SQN low visibility scheme, including roundels, and darkened formation lights on the nose. During the lifetime of this scheme, various panels were repainted FS35237 or FS36375, notably around the nose. 27/06/2018 - Release of RAAF Pack 2.0 - Test & Training https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1994272/ Test & Training is the first release of the F/A-18 Hornet RAAF Pack 2.0. I will be adding more skins to the F/A-18 Hornet RAAF Pack 2.0 as time permits. Currently in the pipeline are a some demonstration skins, celebrating different milestones in Hornet and Squadron history. As skins are nearing completion, I will post screenshots. Test & Training is intended to support the recent release of the DCS F/A-18C Hornet module. At this stage, most of us are involved in learning the systems and trying not to crash! - a test and training pack seemed the most appropriate choice for this point in time. This release includes three RAAF F/A-18A airframes: A21-32, 2002, ARDU test livery A21-25, 2017, 2OCU high visibility training livery A21-28, 2008, 2OCU low visibility training livery Please see the guide included in the download package for installation notes, and more information on each of the included aircraft. Be sure to inform me of any issues you discover so I can amend them. Thanks for your continued support! Hugh

I didn't realise ED were upgrading the shaders/lighting.. wow, looks amazing!
-
I guess the other way to look at it is, can we expect 5ghz processors any time soon? Seems processors are sitting around 4.5
-
Is there any plan to open up another cpu core? We have 1 for sound and 1 for everything else, is that correct? Would another core be possible/worthwhile?
-
If it's any consolation, I have the same issue with a 970 and 4790k. I was going to post about it, but the OP described exactly my experience. I dropped visible range to medium and that kept it above 60fps. The draw distances seem different to Nevada anyway - ie. medium in 1.5 looks like high in 2.0.. can anyone clarify if that's true? However, presently, all things considered, 2.0 runs faster than 1.5 with the same settings. I'm not going to stress about it too much, as the whole Caucasus map is being 'levelled up' to T4. So I'd hold off worrying about it until after the 2.5 merge, if you can.

Thinking of getting a WH, concerned about problems
hughlb replied to bkthunder's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have you considered VKB? If quality of components is concern, their gladiator, or future gunfighter model might be the ticket. -
Looks great Racoon, I love the way the sand and grass intersect, very organic
-
Does that go for modules? I thought preorders are generally 1-2 months ahead of release.
