Thanks, that helped! The document layout is the issue - On page 1 - "It is important to make these steps BEFORE the next DCS patch is released/downloaded to your PC." The first few pages only discuss deactivating BEFORE the patch - it should clearly state ("see page 8 for users who have already installed the patch").

What if people update without being aware of any of this? I now can't deactivate the MiG-21 because I've already installed the update to 1.5.

Hi Dolphin887 I have sent a ticket to you with attached error file. I wasn't aware of this activation/deactivation process, and installed the update to 1.5 without deactivating. I now get the following error message: "Unable to run the application due to integrity fault of the Activation Key. Re-enter a valid Activation Key or re-activate the application. If the error recurs, click "Error report" and send the report to product technical support." When I re-enter the activation key, it keeps coming back with this message. I can't deactivate or bypass this message.

Just a couple of questions, Rainer. Any insight into the use of nylon in the dry clutches - does it use clamping friction on a cylinder, and is there any degradation over time? Also, will the Pro version come with a spring tension for the extension, or will we need to add extra springs / replacement springs, for use with the extension? Also, will the weight of the MCG be significantly greater than the KG12? Cheers!

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
hughlb replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
It's certainly an exciting time to be a sim pilot. VKB (and BRD etc.) are giving us peripherals that are between the Warthog, and the mil grade hardware that is in the multi-thousands of dollars, and not publicly accessible. It's nice to see the bar finally being raised, and at a time when sim software is having a resurgence. -
It is confusing. Here's what I think - He was referring to the TWCS throttle that was released in September 2016. The reason I say that is because it does indeed closely match the Hornet throttle, and it has the paddle buttons he was referring to. If we believe that, then we can only believe he meant the Hornet module, when he said "later this year". The only other possibility is that he was using some kind of pre-release of a version "2" of the TWCS, and he meant that this new/updated throttle was releasing later this year. I am thinking he meant the Hornet module. Just my 2c

I haven't received mine either, all good, it takes time to ship to Aus. I haven't received an email.

How is it Going with Windows 10?
hughlb replied to DieHard's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can't say it's worse that 8.1. Also, at this stage, and with dx12 becoming pretty important for other games, windows 10 is a must -
Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
hughlb replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That makes sense broadly, but I don't feel ED has ever shyed away from unusual or niche aircraft. In fact I seem to recall wags mentioning they look for unusual aircraft, not just the f-35 or something. I can't remember the exact quote. Point is, we ended up with and Albatros, Viggen, F-5, Su-25, Mi-8 even an A-10, which is quite unusual. The Hornet will probably sell more units than any prior module, but I really respect ED for championing some unusual, niche choices. It seems to work quite well for them, and we get to fly things we might never have thought we would - like a Viggen! Or a 117 I'm curious George, would you buy a stealth fighter module? :) I have a theory that goes hand in hand with the asset pack criticism - people buy anyway because it's good for the community. We are a supportive lot aren't we. Sometimes I get surprised when I see how many modules I've bought! How'd that happen ;) -
He said it was the closest thing to a Hornet throttle, but he called it a "Thrustmaster WCS2" Aussies are quick today, Rangi ;)

You should get commission from Thrustmaster - this comment just made my wallet cough up $105 AUD

I love Friday news updates :) Never change, ED

F-15C/D Approaching the Chopping Block Soon?
hughlb replied to frixon28's topic in Military and Aviation
It's hard to imagine anything other than a multi-role platform going forward. A dedicated Air Superiority fighter like the Raptor or Eagle, means a second multi-role or attack platform - Look at the Lightning II, not only is it multi-role, but it's multi-airframe. The British, French, Swiss, all push for a single aircraft to do it all. I don't think the Viper is the answer though. -
Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
hughlb replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I can't agree with that. Rolling into SAM territory at night, in a blacked out spaceship, with no ability to run, manoeuvre, or engage anything other than your target. With no escort and no comms. Whilst getting close enough to drop an LGB. Then get out again. I think that's a unique experience, to me at least. I'm sure you could replicate this with another current module to an extent, but it's a freaking 117! :) -
Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
hughlb replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Absolutely, sorry, I wasn't targeting anyone in particular :) I was just tapping into a general polarization when the F-117 is mentioned. Some people think it would be a great addition, then some almost defend a reason not to have it. Perhaps it's because of the limited mission profile, perhaps its the lack of a gun, stealth, or it's inherent instability. Not sure what it is exactly, especially when we all love airplanes. -
Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
hughlb replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Hard to ascertain why people don't see it as a valid module. Surely a gazelle, an L39, a hawk etc, are no more valid. I would argue the F117 was of greater significance than those. (I enjoy those modules by the way). Also, it offers a mission profile we don't currently have, nor has been correctly modelled in any other sim. I'm sure the mission profile won't excite everyone, I mean I just purchased the A-10 a couple of weeks ago, because it doesn't particularly interest me. I'm still enjoying the systems, even if the flying isn't my cup of tea. I don't see a reason to devalue the idea of a F117 module, especially if the data is available to correctly model it. We like planes, right guys? -
Simming the stealth fleet; a matter of time?
hughlb replied to proletariat23's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I really hope ED or one of the third parties model the F-117. It has immense historical significance, as the first aircraft designed around stealth. I find there's a lot of mission repetition in any aircraft, including the beloved A-10C, if you fly it enough. Relying on stealth to passively enter a combat zone would offer something no other current module can, and boy would it be tense! -
All good Rainer, delays happen, looking forward to April :)

Stick, throttle, pedals 'weight' discussion
hughlb replied to hughlb's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks everyone for the informed discussion! I didn't realise how heavy the forces are. My crosswinds are dialed up to 3/4 of full tension, and they are 18 pounds at full load. That isn't even close to the 16 pounds of breakout, let alone full load of real aircraft. I guess the lesson to take away is to dial the crosswinds up quite high. The stick weight should be easier to achieve as the loads are considerably less. The Gunfighter should offer a lot of functionality in this regard. Like has been said, each aircraft is different, so it's about finding a middle ground. This has been really useful in setting my rudder pedals much higher than I had originally expected. -
I recently asked a 777 pilot about the force required to move my crosswind pedals, when he tried them out in DCS. He said they were responsive, but too light. So what weight would a throttle, control stick, and pedals be in an F/A-18 or 15? What would the weights be in say, a Spitfire? Is there any force data available? In pursuit of realism, I'm trying to set correct spring tension, especially given the new Gunfighter will allow us to finally configure the 'heaviness' of the control stick.

Excellent, thanks Rainer. I feel it's going to be a great year for yourself and VKB. So many products in the pipeline - the ECP and throttle are also on my list. -
Nevada 2.0, high/ultra settings, 1080p - 3.5-4.5GB Vid Ram. I went from a 970-1070 and saw a noticeable improvement. 6GB of vid ram should be your minimum. 8 to be safe

Like Rangi said, this + gunfighter really raises the bar for sim controls Rainer, how many of these will be made in the initial production run? Enough to cater for those who bought Gunfighters?
