  1. I think perhaps it's out of context. just a couple of months ago, Matt hinted that the 2016 window was still possible for the Hornet. Can't imagine the alpha just got delayed a year. Clarification ED?
  2. Seems I'm not the only one having this problem. Did anyone find a solution?
  3. I have contacted NaturalPoint, but at this stage they seem unable to replicate the issue I am having. Basically, when my framerate drops below 120fps I start to get a consistent jerkiness/stutter when panning around with TrackIR. At 90fps, the game itself runs perfectly smooth, but looking around looks like a slideshow. This doesn't happen when using the joystick hats to look around, it's perfectly smooth. The problem is present with both gsync, vsync, and no sync. I have totally reformatted, reinstalled windows, new videocard, monitor, ram and ssd (basically a new computer now!). Problem is still present. The game itself runs smooth as butter, but panning around is a slideshow with TrackIR, unless I get the framerate over 120fps. When this happens, trackIR is super smooth, no stuttering. Any suggestions?
  4. F-14A / F/A-18C / Carriers "Navy Pack" bundle. Be sure.
  5. In the graphics.lua file, try deleting (backup first) the entire line that reads "max fps = 180;" It's towards the bottom of the graphics.lua. Make sure you delete the entire line, and not just the value. I was having erratic framerates with gsync, and this helped a lot.
  6. Just ordered a pair of these in graphite to replace my G25 racing pedals. I don't think I've seen a peripheral yet, with such an overwhelmingly positive reaction. Looking forward to bolting this into the sim pit!
  7. I wouldn't call it a 'beautiful' aircraft. Viggen reminds me of the Millennium Falcon, an inelegant mash of advanced ideas that form an aesthetic that is striking, unique, and for those reasons, memorable. A little off topic, but my point is that the Viggen takes on an otherworldly appearance, so unlike any other aircraft. Although, like the F-104, it appears more spaceship than aircraft. It really makes me want to fly it. :)
  8. I can also confirm that the sim (1.5.4, and 2.0.3) runs with less stuttering when recording a video at 60fps with Fraps. Yes that's right, when RECORDING full HD video, I got less stuttering. I also deleted the "Max FPS" value, entirely, from the graphics.lua, which also helped improved stuttering slightly - all very strange. I've taken a ticket out with ED, which has proven to not yet provide a diagnosis of the problem - I appreciate their help so far though.
  9. What would people recommend for a civil aviation sim? I've been out of the loop for some time, I think the last I owned was FS2004. I lost touch with that sim because the physics of aircraft at the extremes of the flight envelope just felt wrong. In fact DCS has set such a high bar with flight models. There seems to be three choices - Prepar3d, FSX and X-Plane. I've heard X-Plane has excellent flight models, is that true? Is there a better option in that regard? P3D looks really nice, but my understanding is aside from the aesthetic, it's still basically FSX.
  10. Yes, well said DeJohn, thanks for the explanation. I'm building a cockpit around the future VKB Gunfighter with extension, so I might have to take a similar approach to you.
  11. Cool, thanks for clarifying. I guess in the pursuit of realism and immersion it would be best to get a stick extension and switch off curves all together. I'm not sure about other people, but I find curves to be a helpful, but huge immersion killer. Given how much time and accuracy is put into a flight model, it's a bit like putting road tyres on your new supercar, then going to a track day and wondering why you can't put 600hp down.
  12. Do real aircraft have a curve? I understand that in a sim most of our joysticks do not have a long enough column or extension to allow a 0 curve and retain fine control at center . As correctly stated, a curve flattens near the Center, providing greater control, but the trade off is less accuracy at extreme deflection. Given adjusting the curve can totally change the feel of the aircraft, there must be an accurate setting for each aircraft, if you have a joystick with a correct extension
  13. I have noticed that in some manuals, the curve settings for pitch, roll, and yaw are not detailed. Is there a database of realistic curve settings for each module. I tend to keep them around 25, but I have no idea if that's accurate or not. Can anyone shed some light on what our settings should be?
  14. The film or publishing industries function differently to the video games industry. The same is true of any narrative driven entertainment medium; it's difficult to pre release content without giving away too much, especially if your medium is time/length restricted (eg. the music industry). Furthermore, the work is that of its author, and is far less communal. Video games development is far more community oriented, often building on the feedback from previous releases and using that as a selling point, or calling on the community to assist in bug squashing. The trouble with a flight sim, is that its almost entirely technical and grounded in reality, which means when ED says they're making an F/A-18C module, every man and his dog has an opinion and a dozen questions. In addition, it's fairly common practice for games developers to share information, screenshots, videos etc. Which does generate a level of perhaps unhealthy expectation within this community to do the same. My own point of view is that a trickle of information is a good thing for an active discussion forum. For example, take Wag's latest comment on the F/A-18C; the discussion thread has gone incredibly quiet since, because we now have an idea of where things are at. A small development update on each module released predictably at the beginning of each quarter would help to diffuse speculation. Release schedules should be kept out of discussion until it's realistic to announce the module within that year, which seems to be what is currently happening. My 2c.
  15. Thanks for the updates, Cobra and team! The new spec on the bare metal skin looks amazing :)
  16. Did anyone else notice the bloom effect visibile in the Nevada screenshots from today's update?! If this is to do with the spec map, then perhaps we can finally get the sun glinting off aircraft in 2.5. Now that would help visibility (and realism) wouldn't it  https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2896320#post2896320
  17. For me at least, they came, but were delayed by about and hour. The codes didn't show up in my account, but did come through by email.
  18. Bluelight, 2.5 will be a pretty significant engine update, perhaps see what revisions are improvements are made with that iteration. I wouldn't imagine it will do much for VR, for the reasons stated, but I could be wrong. There are a lot of visual features coming, as well as the T4 map tech. Right now, Caucasus performance is very different to Nevada, because of the difference in map tech. This will change in 2.5
  19. 4 months of 2016 remain, and the pattern seems pretty full for probable releases this year - Spitfire, Viggen, Hornet, 2.5, Normandy. That's a lot of potential releases to fit into a release schedule, considering the usual pre-release announcement and build up. I think the F-5 had a two month gap between announcement and release. It'd be nice to see the F-14 before the end of the year, but if the F-14, F-18 and Spitfire all released this year, my three favourite planes would be out.. and then what would I whinge about next year?! ;)
  20. The only mention was from January this year, but a lot changes in a year, and I'd imagine its a lot of work to get up and working properly. I guess we just wait until we hear more news, perhaps in the next four months, or next year at some point. "We see 2016 as a big year for aircraft carrier operations as we plan to release both Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier modules" http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2659915&postcount=13
  21. I figured that might be the case - yes, I guess with vsync off it would be around 100 generally, and then 50 odd over vegas. Fingers crossed it's somewhere between that for Normandy :)
  22. Any word on performance with the new trees? At the moment we only really have Nevada to compare, and that's either arid desert, or dense urban, with not much in between. New trees look great, just wondering how intensive they are on systems.
  23. Thanks for that explanation, makes a lot more sense now :) Having only just purchased the K-4, I'm amazed by how slippery it is, very hard to slow down, though it might have more to do with the giant engine at the front.
