  1. Yes to your statement. Again, I don't want to name specific groups. That's... ungentlemanly. Certain groups never produced anything, while other groups that looked to be quite promising were edged out or ignored outright in attempts to gain 3rd party status and SDK access. Nobody is "dumping on" anyone here, history speaks for itself in these cases. Besides, this is like parenting - if you give every kid a trophy just for existing, how does any child learn self-awareness? Edit: I appreciate that you're going into full PR Battle-Mode here, Sithspawn, but it would look better on ED were you (well, I really mean ED at large, not you personally) to approach these community-raised issues with a level of concern/introspection instead.
  2. I think these are some valid complaints. Sithspawn, you may have some points, but defending to such great lengths just looks like bias. Particularly legitimate are the complaints of persistent bugs not being fixed... the 3rd party forums are littered with them. Some are fixed but the vast majority of legitimate complaints are not addressed or fixed. For my part, I'd like to say that I don't think ED isn't selective about 3rd parties, I just think they sometimes select very poorly. That said, even the best groups that have surfaced so far are running into problems.
  3. I'd prefer to fix the problem rather than come up with a Thrustmaster workaround. I fixed this problem for a friend this way: Tools -> Options -> Addons Check for "Gamepad and Joystick Hotkey Support" in the list. If not present... Press "Browse Online," then search for "Gamepad and Joystick Hotkey Support" 1 result will return. Click the thumbnail and install the plugin.
  4. Man it's tough to see these posts appearing! Looks great. Always nice to see good packaging.
  5. I wonder if the new material is PTFE/Teflon. I was wondering why they'd choose brass initially anyway-- this seems like a choice motivated by friction or maintenance requirements from the brass.
  6. Terrific! You're too fast! I just saw your email of 5 minutes ago with that update and was about to delete my last post. Thanks as always.
  7. Rainer, I don't want to hassle you, but how is the progression through the "day one" pre-orders? Are all shipped orders currently updated? I've got a vacation coming up and would hate for the Gunfighter to be schedule to arrive after I leave.
  8. Oof. Don't know why you'd want to put yourself through the pain of point to points in a sim but... That link is exactly how I was taught. We call it the Pencil Method. These are the two most important things to keep from getting mixed up, and I think they'll solve your problem: YOU are on the tail of the bearing pointer! (This is the most common early mistake) The NAVAID is the airplane symbol at the middle of the HSI I believe what you've done is mentally place yourself on the 018 bearing from Kobuleti, and Senaki on the tail of the bearing pointer (050)... that's backwards! I like to build it like a picture, step by step. Start by locating yourself first, then the NAVAID, and then the desired point. (Make a triangle and mentally check it.) Note that I set the CRS to represent the desired bearing from Kobuleti (ish?) "Scale" is 32nm, since that is the larger of the two distances. Estimate the location of Senaki along the desired bearing. I aimed for about 2/3rds Start the line from your position toward Senaki's position. This is what you got backwards. Now, if we make the turn to our estimated required heading from overhead Kutaisi, we have to remember that you need to continually update your solution to get a direct course. (It's worse with wind!) If we make a 30 degree bank turn at 250 knots, it takes up quite a bit of space: ...and by the time we roll out, our HSI looks like this: Time to take a new estimate. One more thing to add: we can make this slightly easier on ourselves if we get an even rougher estimate first and then refine it. To that end, you can "split the heads" of the needles initially by turning to a heading roughly between the heads of the needles. To make this reasonably accurate, slightly favor the needle head with the larger DME instead of precisely splitting the heads. If you're quick enough, you can skip the second step or even avoid this entirely.
  9. Trigger axis? Do you mean the flip up/down trigger? I'll probably use it as the Master Arm for Western aircraft.
  10. The incomparable Patrouille de France: xLlxM0DyZwU Great to see our original ally flying in the US.
  11. I think it's kind of analogous to Papa John's Pizza being the official pizza of the NFL here in the States... It's mostly marketing. :D Hopefully it means some of their joysticks will have proper default assignments.
  12. Normally I would never buy a Russian stick grip, but VKB has been very smart to respond to customers and compete with VPC by adding more hats and the pinky switch! When my Gunfighter arrives I'll be looking to the MCG Pro next.
  13. If it helps anyone, I was within the first hour and my order is still processing. I imagine it's just taking a while for Rainer to get through closing orders.
  14. Cool! I like how they match the stick base. Rainer I'll slip ya a benny if you'll process my order first. K, thanks.
  15. Great news, now the real wait! Thank you Rainer for keeping up the excellent communication, you've done a truly professional job. It's good to know we'll be dealing with you in the future. I hope VKB uses this as an indication that more information properly relayed results in more satisfied customers.
  16. Thank you for the update! To be clear, is that this week, or 7 days from now?
  17. Olsen, Has this been provided for you? http://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gunfighter-pro-basic-measurements Forgive me if I'm a little too excited about having a mounting plate to match my Gunfighter! :)
  18. Until that one guy who speaks heavily accented English joins the server and really confuses ATC. (Québécois are already preparing to raid your server!)
  19. This is very true. Also I'd buy a Jag or Lightning from Heatblur (or Magnitude 3) in a heartbeat. (Mostly the Jag.) I have to say VEAO is still too much of an unknown quantity, they'll need to produce some quality jet aircraft before I'd move on one of their offerings as quickly.
  20. By that standard, I think you'd have to admit VEAO has nearly everything in development. ;)
  21. It would be really neat to have multiple cursors. I think that's what you're suggesting? The present cursor, the blue cross, could remain as a "screen-space" cursor. This would be visible when GUI elements appear or if permanently enabled as an option. The new cursor, which could be some other shape (a red X perhaps,) would be a "world-space" cursor. It would remain where placed in 2D vector space, regardless of the user's head position. The overly cautious will immediately (correctly) recognize that this cursor would be easily "lost." I think that could be mitigated by simply adding an arrow that appears at the edge of the screen whenever the cursor is off-screen and moved. (With a very short display timeout so as not to become annoyingly over-present.)
  22. Exciting news, thanks Rainer!
  23. You make more posts in this thread than anywhere else on this site. Pretty sure everyone knows how you feel; probably enough bashing people.
  24. Great pictures for a personal review! Sounds like the only serious concern is the strength of the folding trigger. It sure looks beautiful.
  25. Come on VKB, don't be beaten to ship by those Virpil guys! :D
