F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
aaron886 replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For many who own the Warthog, a VKB stick is not a viable option. (And who knows when they'll be taking orders again even if I do want to drop another $300?) I want my Warthog to do what it should, not a replacement. Besides, there's nothing particularly disappointing with the Warthog's sensor, and I bet correcting the spring tension this way will alleviate some of the sticktion. I'm not expecting perfect, just better. -
F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
aaron886 replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sure it's possible. I built a stick using a motorcycle universal-joint (u-joint) and radially attached springs. It wasn't perfect but it was inherently better than Thrustmaster's vertically-aligned helical spring. Even with TM's imperfect plastic gimbal, I completely believe this will be a whole new stick. -
Looking good! I've never found a way to expedite the unwrap process beyond the default Max tools. It seems like aircraft shapes aren't planned for when they make plugins.

I think this is very true. It's difficult to understand the scope of MOOSE and how one would implement it in place of the normal use of the mission editor. What really stood out to me in your first tutorial as the function of MOOSE was to keep scripts in one place, rather than confusingly distributed to waypoints, etc. In reality, it seems MOOSE is more than that, especially with the growing Functional classes. For those of us without extensive experience creating script-heavy missions in DCS, some of the utility is lost on us, even if we have extensive experience with DCS. It would help to see a video of a simple mission designed using MOOSE from start to finish. I think I speak for many of us "weekend programmers" who learn best by seeing examples in action, but lack technical knowledge of programming theory and technique. I had to look up "State Machines" just now, for example, only to find that I understood this innately but did not have a name for it. :)

Sven, this is really impressive work, I'm blown away by your detailed tutorials and presentations. I wish I had some serious time to put into understanding and using MOOSE. I hope you keep developing this toward a truly dynamic theater with artificial intelligence! How did I miss this initial release?

Well, seeing as we all have crappy desktop joysticks with a 10th of the force of a real stick, it seems to me that some adjustment to control effectiveness is needed to reproduce a reasonable response. It could be argued that going in either direction is more "realistic."

It's the internet, man. Don't let it concern you.

As Skate said, this has nothing to do with VR, it's how the cloud shaders work. ("Billboarding") There isn't a chance in hell that ED is going to be able to change the current clouds so as not to billboard, so we'll all need to wait patiently for the new cloud shaders. (Which I hope have received some progress since the last shots, because they looked very blurry. :()

Aluminium Joystick/HOTAS table mounts - Monster Tech
aaron886 replied to meisterolsen's topic in For Sale
Instructions look great! Very professional. Include a short textual explanation of the adjustments in step 6 and the rest is self-explanatory. Slaw's pedals are peerless artwork, full stop. The mechanical/sensor precision is just a breath of fresh air when you're tired of cheap plastic pedals. The damper is a $30 no-brainer once you've shelled out for the pedals and is a great addition. In retrospect I'd have bought a higher quality damper (quieter, smoother) but these pedals are honestly better than the pedals in most real aircraft I've flown. If you've got the cash, don't hesitate to go to Slaw. His designs and his support (seriously, tireless) are the best around. Like I said, having sim hardware that just works is a breath of fresh air. These mounts and the pedals make a comfortable and solid setup that I don't have to think about! -
It's for the oil scavenging, so good guess! The pump is more effective with that increase in RPM. The effectiveness of the scavenge pump at low RPM is of greater importance than the flow rate back to the engine. At low idle RPM the oil is collecting excessively at the bottom of the crankcase. Full disclosure, I don't fly Mustangs. :D

Yeah but that's not an F-5, that's a MiG-28.

Exactly what I was hoping to end up with! A tiny bit more height would have been nice for center stick with extension. You can see how I actually turned the mounting portion upside-down for extra length. Either way, it's a fantastic setup! -
TM warthog: the worst gimbal in history
aaron886 replied to bkthunder's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Same problem, friend. It's frustratingly bad. A 7.5cm extension (by MFG) has helped a lot for me. -
That! That is what I meant. :music_whistling:

You can't bind the middle position. Make it look like the image I made for you. Note that there are only two bindings for each 3-position switch. Because of the (stupid) way that the device sends DX buttons, the 3-way switches are actually sent as two buttons, and the middle position is... nothing. However, you can make a release action so that when the forward and aft positions are released, it activates the center action. Bind the forward and aft directions to the appropriate buttons as shown above, and the middle action will take care of itself because of the work cof/jweisner did. Your button numbers should match mine.

Here ya go, pardo. Note that one of the switches (the highlighted one) has a typo... it should say flap lever, not flap switch. Read pages 109/110 in the manual to get a better idea of what this is about. You'll be using the flap switch on the throttle base as the "flap lever" and the boat switch as the "flap thumb switch." Thank you cof and jweisner! Almost forgot... to install this, you'll need to put it in the DCS directory that cof mentioned, NOT the saved games folder. You MAY, however, need to go to your saved games folder and delete the existing HOTAS Warthog binding lua and restart the game in order to see the new control category that cof added... "HOTAS." Can we all take a moment to appreciate how great this is? WYfBxd5_unk

No. An ELF wave is not going to reflect off of a tiny submarine. Right?

Warthog Extensions by MFG
aaron886 replied to Beeroshima's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
These are great. High polish aluminum, easily installed, and fits perfectly. The ability to set the grip angle however you desire is nice. 7.5cm is perfect for my use, and really does a lot to correct the stiction and hard center of the Warthog. Combine that 7.5cm extension with MonsterTech's Warthog mount and you've got a sweet setup. Highly recommended! -

Instant purchase from me, hegykc. That looks fantastic! I'm constantly frustrated by the Warthog's stick force gradient, and just purchased one of Milan's 7.5cm extensions. What luck! -

Ordered also. Good on Milan for providing such a reasonable price where others are not! -

No problem, I was just surprised that I didn't have a big enough hex key. Now I do!
