  1. Pato, do you know how to check your work in the model viewer? The 2.1 modelviewer provides an easy way to see different map channels. Plus, you can quickly reload the model after a texture update.
  2. No, I wasn't referring to the cone of confusion... the 40 degree lock error is an error inherent in the signal design of TACAN. (Make sure you're reading 4a) On closer inspection of your video however, I don't see the pointer reacting in any way, it is fixed on 270. It doesn't appear to be the 40-degree azimuth lock error. This is more indicative of unlock due to line of sight issues, and that would have been apparent if I had backed up the video on my first viewing. Notice how initially the pointer was reacting normally, but as you flew lower and into more restricting terrain (33:30) it lost the azimuth lock. When the bearing pointer in your video was pegged on 270, that was TACAN's way of showing you "hey man, I'm not tracking anymore." This is actually really impressive on ED's part, it shows both the line of sight restriction, and the channelized nature of TACAN. (Looks like the DME functioned normally however, and I would expect that to unlock as well, but I've never personally experienced these errors in a real airplane.) EDIT: It's important to note that unlike a VOR which will continue receiving signal (or no signal) on a particular frequency without stopping, TACAN will only tolerate about 10 seconds without signal, at which time it will simply stop trying until it is reset. Summary: This is normal operation. You cannot use TACAN without a line of sight to the station. If a signal is disrupted for a period of time, the receiver in your airplane will "unlock" from the TACAN channel and need to be reset just as you did in your video. This is the normal procedure upon suspecting a TACAN lock error. TACAN is not designed to provide navigation for low-level flying, it is designed for instrument rules flight.
  3. This is the most absurd statement... :D
  4. I wonder if this is ED modeling the 40 degree TACAN lock-on error? If so I would be very impressed. Your clip makes it hard to see if the needle is pointing West and reacting, or just pointing exactly west and not reacting to azimuth change. See here for some info on the TACAN azimuth error: http://navyflightmanuals.tpub.com/P-305/Figure-1-17-Tacan-Azimuth-Cone-Of-Confusion-35.htm The article says it's unusual in modern day TACAN sets, but "modern day" is a very loose term. It's not that uncommon. At any rate, this is interesting. Even if it's a bug, it's not unlike the kinds of problems you deal with when using real TACAN sets.
  5. 1) Caught in a landslide. 2) No escape from reality. Open your eyes! Look up to the skies and see: I'm just a poor boy I need no sympathy because I'm: Easy come, easy go Little high, little low
  6. I think I'm noticing everyone who's claiming great framerates has a 1080ti. :D Great post.
  7. Now we're talking! That's a great idea, I'll get some small zip-ties. Can't rep, as usual. :D Finally able to do a solid hour and half of formation flying with this stick yesterday, and I'm very satisfied. This thing rocks! A double cam system might make more linear tension but there's no question that this is the best consumer stick I've used. I'm using #50+#10 in pitch, and #20+#20 in roll, with mild damping. The stick is center-mounted on a modified MonsterTech mount.
  8. Does anyone else find the #50 springs very difficult to install/uninstall? Do I need thinner needle-nose pliers? Anyone have a good method?
  9. It does add a noticeable center, but it feels like a cross between W and 30. 30 is just too much for me, it's like going back to the original Warthog base! W, however, feels just about right.
  10. That makes sense, of course, but it seems that the problem was not hardware. No changes were made there between failure and success. Only difference is that the software recognized my stick AFTER the restart. Sometimes computers really are black magic...
  11. After restarting my computer, VKBdevCFG worked normally with the KG-12 grip. I then tried the WH grip, and sure enough, although it flashed red on the box, I was able to run VKBdevCFG and load the Warthog firmware successfully. Green light. Everything seems to be working correctly now. Solution, apparently, was to restart the computer. I feel like an old person. :D To be fair, I'm not sure why the software stopped working - it was working before the grip change.
  12. I can't even get the WH grip to be recognized by VKBdevCFG. I get a blinking red light, and the program says "Device cannot be opened." I was meticulous with the installation, and just checked - no pinched wires. I have to say I think it's the board...
  13. For those with Thursday delivery like me, DHL's website claims they'll leave a package if you have a signed note on your door. Careful with doing this though, you're obviously accepting responsibility if someone steals your package.
  14. 200 USD? Save the money and wait until you can make a better upgrade, that's not enough to get you reasonable returns in DCS. If it's burning a hole in your pocket, literally everyone agrees (no, really) that an SSD is the best single component upgrade you can make on an aging computer.
  15. Fond memories of your training videos from the Lock On days. Thanks for everything!
  16. Nice, you must be west coast! I intend to modify my Monstertech Warthog mounting plate with the Gunfighter base holes as well, let me know how that goes! Shouldn't be too difficult with a good metal bit and a light lubricant.
  17. For a four way hat, I have no concerns. I've used the Steam controller set up with a stick or track pad mapped to a 4-way D-pad, and never felt the need for any tactile feedback in those situations. As long as I can set up the action zone to occur near the end of travel and avoid repeat presses, that's enough physical feedback for me.
  18. Betcha there isn't a fighter jock out there that would call it "awesome!" :D Looks like a pukefest.
  19. Please also check http://www.pingtest.net, usually the problem is less to do with bandwidth and more to do with stability.
  20. Hey, you've done a great job with that. If the product lives up to the hype, that's the recipe for a happy customer! It will be interesting to see how the MCG/TCS/ECP process unfolds in light of the lessons learned with Gunfighter. :)
  21. Gotta go with Scooter here... time to try a clean sweep on the drivers.
  22. Neither have I, and it's Thursday (0230) at VKB HQ. Maybe Rainer can provide an update. Delays notwithstanding, delivery time is quickly becoming an issue for me as I'll soon be on vacation. I pre-ordered and ordered among the first but I'm not sure what will be the advantage of having done so.
  23. This argument has been made multiple times here, and while it has some weight, it does not extend to issues with undelivered features or persistent bugs. To some extent, it is reasonable for someone to trust that a company will deliver what they advertise, and that their payment is a contract. This is why most countries enforce (in varying degrees) laws that are intended to force businesses to deal ethically and deliver what they promise.
  24. I'm sorry, I don't see that happening here. I see some users that are concerned about quality of a product they paid for being shouted down by a person in an administrative role. It looks very bad on ED and is not the first instance of this occurring on this forum. I've got to call it like I see it here in hopes that ED will notice. In a few pages of double- and triple-posts, you managed to tell nrgized (a concerned customer) that he was not worth responding to, being abusive, and that the solution to his concerns is "not rocket science." Nobody is responsible for reading between the lines of your posts and understanding it from your perspective: you are a visible representative of Eagle Dynamics and need to transmit your intentions clearly.
  25. This statement is belittling, and therefore I think against the spirit of 1.2 I don't think he's being abusive. Pretty amped up, but definitely not personally abusing anyone. I think the worst thing he's done is call 3rd parties "weekend warriors." Quite understood. In some ways I think ED has bitten off more than it can chew with 3rd Parties, but of course with good intent. And the result has overall been great for the community. I love my F-5E! Look, I think you're trying to come up with a logical rebuttal to everything here, and it's causing you to miss the point. Nobody's raving madly about how they hate 3rd Parties, the point is that there are serious quality control and customer support issues that are giving customers concern. There are 3rd parties that have over-promised, 3rd parties that are not being responsive to concerns, and 3rd parties that are struggling to deliver promises made years ago. It's just a matter of fact, unfortunately. This thread is valuable to ED in that it might bring awareness to or confirm the existence of concerns in that area.
