The base of this mod is the flight sim obutto r3volution. First, I have mounted the right acrylic arm upside down, and I have removed the acrylic tabletop. This allowed me to mount there my keyboard. I tied it with double sided tape. As the arm is mounted upside down, the keyboard is just in the good position, and I can tilt it as will, put it in front of me, or away to the right when I’m in flight sim mode. Notice how I have decided to use a finger trackball rather than a mouse, I find a trackball more convenient in a gaming cockpit. I used one of the stick mount to put the trackball on (and I tied it with double face tape too so my baby does not steal it ^^) I think we can use a mouse as well, but this will require to put there a bigger surface. So, as I have put the keyboard there, I removed the keyboard tray. Therefore, this allows me to use the keyboard tray arm as a joystick arm instead. And so, with that in mind, I was able to put this right stick either in a fly by wire mode (stick on the right)… Or in a centered stick position like in some other planes (F-86F Sabre in DCS) or some space ships (military space ships in star citizen)… Also, some space ships in star citizen are designed for a two sticks setup instead of one stick and a throttle (the avenger for instance). In this situation I move away the throttle arm (I have put it on the shifter arm so this is easily moveable) and I turn the arm where I have put my T16000, and I have a two sticks configuration… And last, if I want to fly helicopters, I just put my real size cyclic in front of me, and I use the X55 throttle as collective… Notice that I have more stick mounts than those provided in the flight r3v configuration, this is because I kept those I have from obutto ozone. And now I’m ready for any flight sim setup, easily… just need good pedals now, will buy the MFG crosswind… Thanks for the modularity of the R3v, even if it was not designed like that. But the keyboard tray was way too big in the way, and the tabletop mount was perfect for the keyboard. Oh, and don’t forget the buttkicker…

DCS: F-86F Official Interactive Training Missions
harf4ng replied to derelor's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
About the landing tutorial would be fine to have as well the same mission without all the text, with just a briefing at the beginning then we are on our own. To practice the approach and landing again and again without those pause and speech :) -
According to a comics I have read (buck danny ^^) the MIG can fall in an unrecoverable stall if you manage to put it in a steep turn. But dunno if this is true or if this works in DCS ;)

Hi, Something I wonder, when we create a fast mission, it adds enemies regardless of the plane we're flying? I have tried a mission with easy mode, and after a few seconds in the mission I was shot down by 3 or 4 missiles I didn't see. I had to edit the mission and remove AA to have a chance ;) Also, even with that, when I saw the planes I had to fight, those were not Mig 15 but rather planes like F15 if I saw well. Does it mean that when we're flying an older plane, the fast mission creation is usless? And if so, where can I download a few easy missions against MIG 15 just to learn how to use my weapons? The intercept mission is way too easy ;) Thanks

I agree as well. I love this plane. In fact I'm only flying this one and the Huey (though beside the free planes I only own the A10-C beside those two). But maybe this is also because I loved buck danny comics ;) This is a really pretty plane, fun to fly, a bit challenging to land well (to me, but I'm not a talented pilot ^^), with a lot of buttons and gauges, and this plane is really well designed, belsimtek did a great job with it ^^ Funny that without really noticing, the only two ships I bought were from belsimtek ^^

How to set up toggle switches (a tutorial)
harf4ng replied to Spy Guy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For the mechanical sight caging of the sabre, the command in default LUA is: {down = device_commands.Button_17, cockpit_device_id = devices.A4_GUNSIGHT, value_down = 1, name = _('A-4 Sight Mechanical Caging Lever - ON/OFF'), category = _('A-4 Sight')}, So, this is a on/off function. Wonder why the effect of the down thing is a button in this setup. Now I wonder, is this possible to put a lever for this, with the lever up to uncage the sight, and the lever down to cage the sight? Thanks -
impossible to use the weapon training on UH-1H

Yes this is an issue, this helicopter rocks, but not being able to report bugs... they don't seem active on Facebook as well :) We should report this so they fix the mission ^^ -
Slider? What do you mean by using slider as throttle? Which slider? I use the X55 throttle as collective. So I use one of the rotary as throttle.

Oy. So in fact hard to imagine being the gunner. Better let the AI do the gunnery except if we want to stay in a hover while shooting :) Ouch... 188 pages the manual... ^^
-
But the autopilot really flies a route? With the AI being... AI? I mean, not just like autopilots that fly in a straight line, maintaining just heading and altitude? For instance, can it take off?

Hi, I have tried to put both a M60 on one door and a M134 minigun on the other, and dunno why, I'm able to fire with the M60, but I'm unable to fire with the M134 minigun. Did I miss something? Moreover, I wonder, there is no way to ask the AI to fly the helicopter so we can concentrate on the gunnery? I really hope belsimtek will make this chopper multiplayer, this would be a great one for that purpose, with a pilot, a copilot (what is the goal of a copilot btw? When I'm copilot, I can pilot as the pilot, so I wonder why I should be a copilot... Thanks

Funny but I have found that using a rotary for rudder works quite well :) While I'm waiting for my MFG crosswind pedals of course :)
-
Thanks. I have thought about using this for the UH1 throttle but changed my mind. Not convenient a rotary without a limit for that so I used another rotary for that. Unsure what for I can use it yet :)

Do we have to use google chrome for dcs bios? And can we hope dcs bios to support more modules? Thanks Oh and do you have a help file somewhere? I have an issue with this software, I cannot access the top menu : file, options, help. When I click on them, the menu opens then closes immediatly... -
Hi, On the left of the X55 throttle, there is a rotary without a start and an end, a loose one. In the saitek control panel, it is designed as scroll forward and scroll backward. Do you think there is a way to use that as an axis? Thanks
-
Waow. A lot of movies, thanks. Will check. Though I seek movies in HD, bluray, so I guess too old movies do not have that :)
-
Yes I saw it. Though I found it very frustrating the end when they do not... Will not say it :)
-
Thanks. I bought yesterday in bluray : Top gun, les chevaliers du ciel, and blue thunder. So I have two military planes movies and an helicopter one :)

Why aren't there today any real good joysticks?
harf4ng replied to FlightControl's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is funny that you're talking about helicopters, because the best sticks for helicopters are not force feedback sticks, but full length sticks. Like the komodosim cyclics, or the pro trainer... http://www.komodosimulations.co.uk/cyclic.html http://www.pro-flight-trainer.com/fr/ And those are not force feedback sticks. You need a full length one because you need precision around the center that you can barely have with a small stick. And the think you're talking about is the force trim, and they are not available in many helicopters. In a lot of helicopters (the ones without full electronic systems) when you release the stick it will move everywhere, it will not stay in place. A real helicopter pilot told me that. And there is no return to center in an helicopter, and the stick is not connected to wings like in a plane, therefore in a helicopter you feel nothing on the stick, no resistance, no move on the stick while you fly... BUT... yes, the force trim could be useful to mimic most modern helicopters. AND... rich, from komodo simulation, is designing a force trim base for his cyclics. I own a full size replica of a EC135 cyclic, it is a very fine piece of hardware from komodo, maybe I'll buy the force trim base when it will be out. This is not force feedback, no response from game, but this is the most realistic stick for helicopters around... (in this price range ^^) -
Hi, I know that you can create viewports. There are also examples with MFD. But, is it possible for planes without MFD (like the sabre) to display instruments on another screen? Like speed, altitude, and so on? Do we have a list of available viewports somewhere? Thanks

harf4ng replied to a topic in DCS Modding
Thanks for all those infos. Still wondering if I'll buy this, or just put a screen below and display the instruments on this other screen. (and so replace my triple screen setup by one screen for view, one screen for panels, and unsure for the third one...) As end of the year I'll probably moving to the rift, so all those fancy panels will be of no use to me ^^ -

So this means if I use just one, it should be fine? And btw do you handle just one panel and the user switching the display on the panel? Or do you handle just one panel per function, with no switch possible? I do not own those panels yet, but I'm considering buying one... -

I don't understand, why do you need this plugin for saitek TPM? I have it working without that, either by using saitek software, or more recently by modifying the default.lua of a plane to add new commands I could then apply to TPM buttons. Also, are you going to support saitek pro flight instrument panels as well? Thanks
