Spitfire no longer overheating easily?
DeepDrummer replied to Kiwispirits's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Yes, it runs a lot cooler than it did a number of months ago but that change came months ago. It has the additional rad previous Spitfires did not have so it is logical. I used to prefer high altitude since it didn't overheat so easily, now it overcools up high in my opinion. It has been a while since I tried flying at altitude. As I recall it is ok as long as you are beating it but getting fuel economy up high is asking for trouble temperature-wise. I find it fine. I just shifted my altitude down. I definitely have to open the rad flap at times while dogfighting but never for too long at all. It cools quickly. I like it much better now. Just because it "used to" behave a certain way, does not mean that was correct or realistic. You should be able to push the crap out of a Spitfire. Especially an Mk. IX. No complaints here. I can still toast it but one eye is always on the temps and pressures as it needs to be. If I am going full out, I don't have time to look for gauges. I just check it when I can and estimate about one minute of total WEP before I pull back if I am too busy to look. If I am not catching up after a minute, it's time to call it a day and I break off or set rpm 2800 and boost 12 or lower to cool for a bit. It doesn't take long with the rad flaps open. The subtle changes you notice when listening to the engine can tell you when the oil is getting too thin from too much heat. Perhaps only in my own mind. I do Love this Spitfire. -
I put 4 short Cold ramp start missions into a campaign using the Spitfire LF MK IX Full Wing version NTTR. It is great when there are time constraints. One could switch aircraft in ME and have a bit of fun as well. I have been playing it daily for a month. It works well. Note: Bad bombers are camouflaged, Good Bombers are not. I use dot only labels on and off for the air battles. Forget about the name on the side. Blues is Allies and RED is enemy. Mano-a-mano. You have 3 more in your flight and many other allies. Each Mission is around 30 minutes unless you are damaged. If damaged RTB immediately. You and your aircraft must live and you need to be in the seat to advance to the next mission when you end the mission. It is very simple with emphasis on "fun". Enjoy! If you click on the airport in the mission editor, the frequency of the airport is shown. Enter this by clicking the radio tower in the editor. Additional frequencies can be set here as well note pic 2. the Method could vary a bit depending on aircraft. The wingman will be on the channel you set as the main one as in pic 1. Note: the frequency of Dubai Intl is 118.750 as in the example pics.

I just cranked up my subwoofer almost to the point of breakup in DCS. Any tinny sound has been replaced by a wonderful purr. The only problem is that it is too much bass for general music and media. If there was a way in DCS to increase the bass overall, it would be great. Still, it is worth crawling under my desk and cranking it a bit. More bass. Trust me. It is right on. I added +10db in the mixer for the bass and tapered everything else down to neutral at the high end as well. Sub woofer is at 50%

T.A.R.G.E.T. disables my joystick and sometimes it stays that way
DeepDrummer replied to Bahger's topic in Thrustmaster
I have also at times in the past removed every usb device in the devices except the mouse and then reboot which will find and install drivers for most things. Then install the Target stuff last with the joystick first and then the throttle. -
T.A.R.G.E.T. disables my joystick and sometimes it stays that way
DeepDrummer replied to Bahger's topic in Thrustmaster
It used to happen to me often. Are you plugging in and unplugging other HID devices? Cam, phone? Other controllers for other things? That can mess up the enumeration. Sometimes hitting the enumeration button on the device analyzer helps. Pic attached. I have had to uninstall Target and the TM drivers and re-install the drivers and then Target. If you then plug in a cam or other Hid device especially if the TM stuff is unplugged, it can re-order. Everything that ever gets plugged in, stays plugged in on my machine. TM stuff gets installed Last. Windows still sees the stick and throttle as one unit when combined. run joy.cpl to verify. I haven't had that problem in over a year now. That is just one possibility. Static electricity will kick things out of kilter as well. In winter when it is cold and dry like now, I touch a bare usb connection to ground myself before touching the stick or throttle. -
I had to calibrate mine. It was off from the factory and I used it like that for 3 years until this post came up. Bear in mind that the calibration tool seems to favour A-10 conventions and one must read between the lines. Certainly jets want some traits and warbirds want others with regard to afterburners and engine idle and such, I would recommend reading this ALL of this post. It can be a bear and took me more than one try. It is scary stuff but my throttle is bang on now. Do it wrong and you could run into a very strange situation. <<Your results may vary and do so at your own risk. Read and then read some more. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=65901&highlight=Thrustmaster+calibrate

Interesting. My TM Wartog and myself prefer zero up or down for take off. It helps to gets the tail up but not enough that I have to fight the nose down tendency too much when I leave the ground. For cruise I use one notch up which is near hands off for non-maximum rpm and mid range boost and is very close for most situations other than below decent flight speed. I.E. below 180 mph. As I drop below 180 mph and continue to decelerate, the tail indeed gets heavy and requires more and more rudder down to near zero rudder trim on approach at 160 mph. When lowering gear at 160 mph and flaps at 140 mph I find that immediately following gear down command the aircraft requires a generous trim up and the flaps require the same amount of additional trim up after they are lowered. This leaves the elevator trim on landing right around the 2 notches up. I used to count to 5 while trimming up on approach once I slowed below 160 when I lowered the undercarriage. I also used to count to 5 when trimming up after I lowered the flaps. It got me very close.

Suggestion: Single axis option for both cockpit lights
DeepDrummer replied to Lixma 06's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Understood. It's a long, perilous road. I have gotten used to saying "Target" and then immediately ducking to avoid the hail of rotten tomatoes. To myself: Laughing knowingly... -
Suggestion: Single axis option for both cockpit lights
DeepDrummer replied to Lixma 06's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I tried different things for hours. It is beyond my limited knowledge but just so you know. People do try behind the scenes. The thing is, it is outside realism and therefore probably will not be considered and rightfully so. I won't say it cannot be done since I do not believe in the word "can't". It just cannot be done by me in this lifetime. The best I could do in the end was turn them on or off at the same time by sending a set number of increases and decreases chained together using TM Target. -
No lock available. I find taxiing at no more than 1100 rpm makes it quite easy. Deflect the pedal in the direction you want to turn and then tap the brake, deflect tap, deflect tap. Spend an hour just taxiing. Never look back. You'll be there.

I have one question only about MAC. Is the visibility of the enemy aircraft going to be addressed and improved or is it simply going to be a screen filled with bubble gum style gaming type indicators like games and sims seem to be filling the screens with more and more these days? How that visibility is handled will be my deciding factor. I cannot see me giving up DCS world though. I like my aircraft to be as realistic as possible. Will I add MAC? I'm watching. Keep the info coming.

Nicely done Birko. My early morning smile and chuckle is compliments of yourself. Thanks for the kick.

Add my name to the list of extremely thankful people. For all you do Wags, thank you Sir.

I believe I flew almost every sim that came after "pong" from the seventies until near 2000. This year, I deleted every other sim. DCS wins. Hands down. I miss Chuck Yeager's voice on your flight sim giving you what for after a bad flight. I may have to re-install that to steal the voices for my own personal mission use. Man, we used to laugh.

You have already lost coolant. There is only air behind the cylinder walls now. The loss of coolant reduces the pressure in the system which allows it to boil at an even lower temperature. The problem continues to get worse. You cannot replace the coolant in flight. The temperature sending unit is no longer in liquid and therefore the guage can no longer be trusted. The temperature of the remaining steam is far past 140. Engine recovery is not an option. Prepare to deal with total unrecoverable power loss.

I like the stock sounds. They really tell you what the aircraft wants. I was just listening to my Spitfire idle after a successful mission while I was doing a few things. It purrs so nicely. It can be made to cackle steady just off idle sometimes. Heaven to my ears. My suggestion: Crank it up in 5.1 Surround

Virpil WRDBRD Base vs. TM Warthog
DeepDrummer replied to obious's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use TM and stick with it (on my 3rd stick) because of the Target Software. If I was not using the Target software I would bail. I will continue to buy TM and use Target for the foreseeable future. It is definitely not for everyone. Surely anyone can make a better more reliable gimbal than Thrustmaster's Hotas Wartog effort. Thrustmaster: A Love/Hate relationship for me. Better Software than Target does not appear to exist. Similar? Yes. Better? No. -
+1 I concur We have 2 rads not one We have one fuel cock lever not 2 Our Mixture Lever works opposite to what is described. Our Master switch is outside the cockpit. It was relocated in later models. Maybe the Spitfire Mk V as well? It is not a bad procedure. The starting procedure would not work in DCS. Roll the engine over while holding the starter and booster coil buttons. When it fires move the Mixture Lever to the forward position "Auto Rich" I would add to Zero the Altimeter before takeoff or all of those altitudes for landing sequence will mean nothing. Set QFE on approach if Required.

Control Profile Request to DEVs
DeepDrummer replied to DeepDrummer's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
On the Gun safety Lever when the tang is to the right, the guns are to fire. I watched some actual footage the other day and noticed that it agreed with my extrapolation. Definitely right thumb operated. Thank you for your consideration -
+1 Makes you wonder of the lack of confidence in the product that it can't stand beside mention of another similar product. It is quite unique in the area of forums. "you can talk to each other as long as you say what we want you to say". It is the unfriendliest most judgmental place I have ever run across in actual fact with some of the best and some of the worst people I have ever met. Ask a question and you get treated like an idiot and you get 1/10th of an answer that means nothing. Make a request for change and the users/customers jump up to help but the company simply puts you on forever ignore. One switch that may never come stops it cold. *sigh* 5 minutes work. *sigh* I just uninstalled my "other" sim. I had to make a choice and choose the one I preferred. It was close... Long Live DCS World *sigh*

My apologies. Carry on.

Often there are programs running in the background such as Windows that have access to certain keyboard shortcuts. This means that when using certain key combinations, they may not register in DCS. Alt-tab for one. If you are using a trackIR, it also has keybinds. Mine conflicted so I changed them in TrackIR. Shadowplay for instance uses alt-F9 to activate recording. DCS uses that for the Landing Signal Officer. Conflict. Discord, SRS, TeamSpeak, Even your browser can have keyboard shortcuts. Often if these keybinds are trapped, they will not register in DCS or Target when you go to bind them. Take that as a Hint. Print up your keybinds from the Make html in the controls page and go over every keyboard shortcut to ensure they are not already used. One advantage to the Target software is it will not let you put in certain controls that in most cases are duplicates somewhere. It give you a big "be careful" by not allowing it. One can use the, other than typing it in method, I forget what it is called, in Target to get it in there anyway which has merit at times. Generally CTRL + keys and Alt+ keys can be problem areas as well as the windows key. It takes a long time to flesh this out but it solves most of these types of behaviours.
