  1. Zoom View and Brakes come to mind for mini sticks that return to center. In my case this is in addition to other methods of doing the same thing with lessor results. You can limit the stroke to only be half so that it appears to go back to zero and lets you use the full stroke for only one half. Whatever you like by adjusting the saturations. By adjusting Saturation y in the attached pics, it limits how far past center 0 to off it can go. It can go digitally and thereby one can adjust the level of zoom out it returns to. I.E. I can be zoomed in or out to any level via other methods I use (buttons held) and when I hit the mini stick at all and allow it to center, I am right back to the optimal zoom level of my choosing showing my six pack gauges. Without using this mini stick and curve, it is a regular PITA to get back to my preferred view while wearing a track IR. I believe it works like this. Saturation Y seems to be the limit when you let go of the stick. I limited this to 90 for the zoom since at 100 it was zooming back to too close. Saturation X seems to be the limit on full application. I limited this on my particular brake application by using a lower than 50 Saturation X since I wanted only half braking or the brakes stay on in a Spitfire. One could use more or less in the P-51 as desired. Curves speed up or slow down the action in specific areas.
  2. Certain non-spit pilots could skew the poll and probably did. I can't imagine any Spitfire aficionados who would vote against the .50 cals. The .303s being near useless. That is a YES from myself of course.
  3. Yes on shutdown. It is not critical. I was just wondering.

  6. True. Some mods are great. I am just a bit peeved about mods that cause me problems and errors. I am extremely happy now. I will attempt to stay that way. Just saying thanks for the great stock sounds.
  7. I tried it long ago. It sounded ok. The current DCS sounds please me just as much or more. I have since my mod days done a complete uninstall and re-install and swore to never touch another user mod again for various reasons. Rock stock from now on for me. User mods are what drove me away from X-plane and back to DCS. Some are good like Jaffa's possibly is and some are not so good. Running mods while beta testing is a criminal offence isn't it?

  9. This is another more or less beginner's campaign for practice. If you unzip the attached file and then move the folder to your Saved Games\DCS\Missions\Campaigns\en folder, it will show up when you hit campaigns under my campaigns or something. As long as you can take off and land, you may have fun learning to spot aircraft and down them in this campaign. If you are alive when you hit, end mission, you should advance anyway. If not, hit fly again or cancel to come back and start at that mission on your next campaign start. They will send you back up on the next mission in the campaign just like in real life. I destroyed them all and finished this morning. I learned a lot. A few more times and I'll make some armed enemies or perhaps some Targets of Opportunity for the return trip. Keeping this one as is and simple. Assume the U.S. Bombers are stolen. Easy to spot unlike the 109. ;) Campaign contains 10 B-17s and one 109. Mission 1 = 1 of B-17 Mission 2 = 2 of B-17 Mission 3 = 3 of B-17 Mission 4 = 4 of B-17 Mission 5 = 1of 109 All are unarmed "fish in a barrel" Target practice. 10. Anything over 1/4 on my volume control is too loud with my system. It would be nice to tone down the interior just a hair for sure. I often thought a volume slider for the engine would help too. I get confused with what to slide for what so I leave them all maxed except music which is off. It's workable enough for me. I generally stream music while flying so it is a fine balance for sure.
  11. I didn't realize that a creative trial had trashed 2 of my channels in my system until I went to use my mixer. Not to mention, I often run with the sound down while listening to music. I uninstalled re-installed my sound blaster drivers and did not install any of their trial software. Until now, I had no idea how amazing the Spitfire sounds were. I just took off and the change in sound when the wheels lift off is pure heaven. Excuse me while I CRANK IT UP. *climbing to altitude now* ;) Thank you to all responsible. Very nice!
  12. Spitfire Manual Path Here is where the Spitfire Manual is stored. Check the pic. It's a bit more in depth in some areas. Brakes are mentioned on Page 66 and 79. Mind you, I read Chuck's guide many times and it is a very handy document.
  13. I was wondering if there is a binding for that little switch under the throttle. It is the only thing I have to grab the mouse for. If not, it would be nice at some point to have that down the road.
  14. Thanks. I only looked back so many pages
  15. Spitfire overcools a bit It is hard to understand why this happens when the Merlin was equipped with a thermostat. You can do near anything at 20C. You are hard pressed to keep it warm at -1C or less http://www.planehunters.be/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/RR-Merlin-parts-Z6569.pdf Thermostat picture is at the bottom. Mind you it is a X
  16. It is visible in snow. Confirmed. Not visible in rain. Thatr is Kind of logical I suppose.
  17. Cool. It's tough enough with the weather but with unarmed targets it is easily won as long as you live through it and destroy a few. It's my first campaign and I am still a bit confused on triggers. This one worked fine for me. It must be luck. Good practice. Now for an Air to Air practice campaign. In progress.
  18. Miss Shilling's orifice although used at the time of the battle of Britain, was not used in the MK IX. It had a Pressurized Carburetor. No float. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bendix-Stromberg_pressure_carburetor
  19. Enough of that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daimler-Benz_DB_605 Read the section under components. "Dry Sump" is mentioned again.
  20. Dry sump explained: Page 2 of that PDF clearly states the oil is stored in a tank and not a pan. I drag raced for years. Many used this type of "dry sump" Nice pic of it here. Still trying to find the accumulator again. http://www.museomotori.unipa.it/posters/26.jpg
  21. I see. My apologies. I read it here in the third paragraph up from the spec chart. http://www.aviation-history.com/engines/db605.htm
  22. It has always been that way. Good catch.
  23. It does not overheat easy now. You can drive it very hard. I even caught up to a 109 but I had to get over 18,000 feet to do it. Objectively it doesn't snap the wings off near as easy although a bomb load may affect that. You don't pass out if you breathe on the stick forward anymore. I always climb at 180+. Even 160 doesn't feel right in a climb to me. 80? I'll have to try that.
  24. The brakes are linked to the rudder. When you simply apply the brakes, it brakes both wheels. When you brake AND use your rudder, it will greatly help turn in the direction the pedals would cause. Differential braking. Kind of like a tractor or a tank. Brake one side and it turns that way. Pulling back on the stick does not lock the wheels in a Spitfire. It is free castering only. It is the most difficult fixed wing aircraft I have ever tried in a sim. The learning curve is long. Taxi at 1100 rpm and less. Watch the nose against the clouds or something. Apply rudder early. Brake if required with the rudder turned. Torque will always make it easier to turn left than right. I believe I bought the Spit a couple years ago. I have just this year learned how to take off and land it every time. Pick start from runway instead of ramp to get you going with a bit of fun without taxing. Spend a day just taxiing. That was my cure finally. "A lady in the air and a bich on the ground" <said many for good reason. The 109 is a breeze once you've mastered the Spitfire.
  25. 4 simple missions in a winter campaign for the spitfire in the caucus. Temperature is -2C AGL. Basic, beginner missions with unarmed targets just for practicing engine heat/cooling and ground targets with bombs and guns. It's not hard to advance if you live and land and destroy a few targets. Each mission is about a half hour or less. Unzip the file and place the folder in your /saved games/DCS/Missions/Campaigns/en or wherever they put or name the beta these days or dcs World in the older installs and if you're playing in English it will show up when you pick my Campaigns from the campaign selection on the main menu screen. All are runway starts to save time. Warmup at -2 is near 10 minutes right there. Rad to Auto Pitot Heat on Set trims Dash lights on Rad to Auto Air filter in operation for takeoff Watch temps and oil pressure. Dilute the oil as required. Spitfire LF MK IX Winter Campaign.zip
