controlling TM warthog hotas backlight with pinky switch?
DeepDrummer replied to fael097's topic in Thrustmaster
A lot of things in Target will run fine in Parallel with DCS without the need to share info. If YOU send the command by a switch or a button, there is no need to go through DCS and then back to Target. Just send it once. Both are listening. For LEDs it seems to be ok to do this. An example would be my friction lever is for my analog brakes which is set as that axis in DCS. At the same time in Target I have that Axis turn on the LED 1 at anything above 1% and I turn the LED OFF at anything below 1% I imagine the same holds true for switches. They get along fine that way. -

If you are using the GUI to make your script, Make sure you use the "Type" field to control the LED on and off. Press in this field turns it on and Release in this field turns it off. The intensity is the intensity for all the LEDS. set it and forget it. Don't try to use it on individual LEDS. I set mine at the 3rd notch. Just pick which one from the virtual keyboard to save into the Key Command Field and then assign it a press to turn on or a release to turn off. This is not the Press and release from the control fields beside control: -

I skimmed quickly to an LED example I gave in this video. I know there is one at 45:20 but there is more. It's worth a watch. I use all 5 LEDs and the backlight as 6 warnings today. It's an older script. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJv1pLWyxuE -
Could we slip an "Off" and "ON" option in addition to the current "toggle" binding for the "Guns Safety Lever". Of secondary importance, Could we slip an "Off" and "ON" option in addition to the current "toggle" binding for the "Fuel Tank Pressure". In this time frame when control profiles are being changed, I think it's a good time to put this contentious issue to rest. Offs and Ons Please. I beg of you. I am not running the beta at present so I have no idea whether this is being contemplated or accomplished as of yet. My profile is so perfect and the Spits are wonderful other than those other 2 actual flaws.

Dubai fun day. I generally make a new mission a day and delete them all periodically and start over as I learn. This is an aero bi athalon. Fly the course and shoot targets where time is the winner. My own rules for this one is the lowest time wins with a one minute penalty (3 points = one target) for any targets not eliminated by shutdown. Shutdown can occur on the runway even at shutdown but I must be stopped at Dubai Intl. One could switch the mission to any aircraft in the ME. I included my 4 warbirds in the zip but only tested the Spitfire. It should be fine since I simply switched planes and gave them all 50% fuel. I keep wanting to improve my score over and over. My immediate goal is under 15 minutes with each Aircraft with the full 20 kills. It is just plain fun and due to the time factor, quite challenging. so I'll leave it here. In my opinion the Persian Gulf map is very worthwhile and my favourite now. Warbirds Air race zipped.zip

I am old. My eyes are bad. I have been playing on a 6 year old prescription on a 27" 1080p monitor. I couldn't see well enough to dogfight really. I got a bigger 4k system which is perfect at 6 feet away but I was using 6 year old readers and I noticed it wasn't too bad. Typical old age eyesight is a loss of the ability to focus up close. This is why we hold a newspaper miles away to read it. I asked the eye doc to make my new readers focus at 6-8 feet. I just wanted to share that it works perfectly. Dog fight training begins shortly. I read somewhere that the rift and vive type things are based on a 6 foot focus. Is this true? If so I should be able to use that same prescription on some insert lenses maybe?

If Beta servers were only available on Tuesdays for 24 hours per week people may just flock to the stable servers and we could all get back to populated servers. Stable should only be updated monthly with solid updates. A month of solid uninterrupted play time couldn't be all that bad could it? It's like the whole things stalls when there is a flaw in the beta which although a flaw in a beta is perfectly normal, The model which only allows only a certain number of beta testers works well in some franchises. That would reduce the number of false alarms drastically and ED could focus on real problems. I have been guilty of a false alarm or 2. Someone had to spend time to find it could not be reproduced. It was a controller problem which is super common. My application to beta test should be revoked. Flip it around somehow. Play the Stable./ Test on the Beta. This needs to be turned around. It's just all the whining when the "Beta" breaks. After 35 years of heavily beta testing, I am done with all that. (and my SSD is kind of full). I was kind of hoping to find a few Stable Spitfire servers on something other than the Normandy map is all. Nothing is critical. I am happy enough making missions and practicing. Just some thoughts. One pays for the experience and then one finds you can't have the experience unless you are willing to play the buggy Beta game. While I am here, an ingame VOIP system is sorely needed. TS, Discord, Skype, SRS. How many back doors must we open? sheesh. Ok. I am done.

I watched an F-18 video featuring Wags and Crash the other day. Wags mentioned an Apache. I look forward to the heli world in that someday. The Persian Gulf map (and bundle) is my best DCS investment to date. More buildings and more mountains is always good for my own personal taste at the present time. Picking off ground targets inside Dubai is the best yet. FPS is great and seems to be the best as well. The video was very informative and Wag's explanations of the upcoming and the whys and wherefores was excellent. Good stuff is coming. They had to flesh out a few systems first.

DCS last Update: Big problem !!!
DeepDrummer replied to FistofZen's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
One must "restore" from the bin and not move the files back. That is one possibility. DOS used to put a $ in front of deleted files which could only be restored by an undelete to get the name back and the use of the file. That is the only possibility I can think of. There could be others of course. -
I was also thinking Hornet. I am liking it so far and look forward to seeing it improve.

First Impressions of the Hornet+ Straight of Hormuz map
DeepDrummer replied to Pilotasso's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
+1 I opted in a couple days ago on both although my wait was probably closer to 30 years. ;) It just keeps getting better. -
I got started on my F18 profile for the TM Hotas Wartogand quickly found that my old templates did not supply enough options so I made some new templates. There are far more than 300 options available now. No doubt there are some errors however just to show a portion of what is possible it only takes me a minute to share. 6 exel files in one zip file attached. TM Templates.zip

Multiple actions on one switch?
DeepDrummer replied to Braeden108's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thrustmaster Target does this easily by chaining commands together like the pic attached if you are using Thrustmaster stuff. Target is their keymapper. Sokol1_br may have a better answer depending on your hardware. -
Monitor 4k is a problem in DCS 2.5?
DeepDrummer replied to Reinaldow's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I slid my 58" Plasma 1080p screen on my desk for a trial. In one campaign I made, aircraft are activated at a certain point. I could see those instantly as dots at around 6 miles. It felt as though my cockpit was too roomy. The width of my shoulders gave me too much elbow room in a way. My guages were fairly blurry and most text was hard to read. I bit the bullet and got a 50 inch UHD HDR 4K screen. I can see them at 6 miles but about 30 seconds later than the huge 1080p setup. Guages are clear. Text is tiny but near readable. My shoulders bump into the side of the cockpit just right. Coming from a Benq 27" 1080p through the plasma to here, I would say the sweet spot is 40-50" 4K. My hardware runs it (see my sig) and just teeters on the vsynced 60 with not much AI and no mp yet. I tweek my settings to achieve that generally. The big differences are in the up close. Gorgeous. All text is too small. ME, comms, trigger messages. Scaling the gui loses things. We need a factory hotfix please. No doubt it will come. I couldn't go back. I probably paid at least 25% more than this after conversion, taxes, duties, extra scrutinizing scrutiny charges. It seems to prefer to run stand alone than with a 1080p side monitor. Heads up on that note. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-50-class-led-nu6900-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6288348.p?skuId=6288348 -
TM Warthog - VKB Gunfighter MCG Pro - VPC T-50
DeepDrummer replied to Abburo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Target is the main/only thing that keeps me in the Thrustmaster joystick camp. When I peruse the competition's websites, there are sometimes options available that makes the TM stick top fit another manufacturer's base with addon electronic modules. Often they state compatible or something. Are they compatible with the Target software? I cannot find that stated on any competitor's website. If it is not compatible with Target it is not Compatible with the stick top. I would only defend the TM Wartog F16 stick due to the Target software which allows one to do things like in my posted pics Without having to write one single line of code. One should not have to disassemble the stick because of an almost across the board "sticktion" problem. Target is the only reason I stick with a TM Wartog Stick bottom. Every line is done by the Target software. Without Target, I cannot recommend the TM Wathog stick due to the piece of crap plastic gimbal system. My old eyes and my "mechanic's" fingers break the wire every time I take one apart. I am on my third. Likely next year at this time, I will be on my fourth. I refuse to use any device where I have to write by hand even one line of code to make it work. The Target GUI is a beautiful thing because it can create a profile like my 4 pics below all working together using modifiers and layers and everything is quite nice. That part cannot be beat today. The competition however is moving up fast (Wake up Thrustmaster). Is the F-18 stick going to have an improved Gimbal? Will I be able to put one of my three joystick tops on it if so? -
Looking for realistic Spitfire curves
DeepDrummer replied to mr_mojo97's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I have used 3 different joysticks in DCS. I find an extension helps slow things down and increase accuracy for the Spitfire and curves really are required to slow things down a bit. I still use curves a bit on my TM warthog. I will attach those as pics simply for ideas since mine is not a virpil and mine is extended but it bit may help a bit just to show the direction to possibly head. Slowing down the yaw helps a lot when aiming if you want to yaw into your target at times. It probably helps in landing and take off as well. I put a small dead zone into the brakes so an accidental touch doesn't take the brake off as easily when it is in a Held on on position. Pitch I slowed down as well. Every stick is a bit different due mostly due to the throw length measured at the top of the stick during full movement. I.E. the distance from the gimbal to the top of the stick is not a constant across the board for all sticks.. The point is mine will not be perfect for you but may give you ideas. I use a 3 inch extension and so my curves will not be the same as someone without an extension. I keep eyeing that virpil base. I think the most important one is the yaw. It is far too fast for effective use in the air with the stock setting on my stick. -
The Spitfire took me the longest to get nailed down. Everything else WWII was a breeze once I mastered the Spit. I imagine the 109 could get out of shape easily enough with the high camber undercarriage setup which is very particular about being "wings level" but I have no problems with it. Imagine a motorcycle landing from a jump while leaned over the same amount. Craziness. The left wheel is trying to send you right and the right wheel is trying to send you left by design.

5 min at full everything is quite amazing as well.

As I am flying along here heading to the target, I am climbing at your 12 boost and 2850 rpm. Nice! I was still stuck in the 9 boost mind set since it used to run too hot otherwise. This is a whole new plane. All systems are perfect. This is going to be fun. Thanks for the push.

Perfect. Thanks for the info.

I wish I could have picked these guys brains. Read the last paragraph after the first picture. https://www.ozatwar.com/ozatwar/lindbergh.htm No doubt John S. Blyth would have had a goldmine of information regarding fuel economy as well. http://www.americanairmuseum.com/person/128412 He states in the video below that he climbed to 40,000 feet to get to Berlin and back. Between those two links and some creative guessing, I would have to conclude that High altitude, high boost and low rpm could in fact give the best fuel economy in real life although hard on the engine to an extent. Whether it works that way in DCS is yet to be determined.

That is a beautiful thing. I personally would love to be able to use that if it is a fairly simple install.

+1 I posted a reply regarding a mini joystick control on a device here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3615357#post3615357 I use the little mini stick (Axis) on my TM Hotas Warthog throttle as a quick return to my choice of views. I set it up as a zoom function although I only use it to quickly pull it back to my preferred seating position. I use buttons for my slow zoom functions as well and was always nasty when I zoomed out. The mini stick axis is self centering so I just tweaked the saturation so that center was my preferred seating spot. I get to retain my full zoom sweep using my buttons that way.
