Well, these guys are currently working towards the -22 and are working to get a 3rd party status in the future. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=166332 You are welcome. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Thank you all for the awesome info, I now understand how to perform the maneuver, and that it is a tactic to combat an unfriendly g load. I appreciate the suggestions for target acquisition too, I suspect the LOD issue is the one to blame since seeing the trucks does seem very angle-dependent, and pausing will allow me to confirm that one way or the other. Thanks again :) Good to hear it worked for you. The LOD and rendering issues do indeed complicate air-to-ground combat. I do believe the issue rised when the 2D render turns into a 3D render (= when the ground object first appears larger than an individual pixel on your monitor). This usually happens far enough that the object - now being drawn with shadows and light acting on it - seems to disappear until it is large enough for you to spot it against the ground. Sometimes you can see this in a way that you actually see the targets better if you zoom OUT to keep the targets rendered as 2D... I imagine the whole thing will be tweaked as the new grapchics engine matures. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Yea, it gets forgotten easily. The best tool when teaching beginners or learning a new system airborne. It gives you time to assess your situation while you are yet unable to "keep all the balls in the air at once". We use it in our squadrons practices to sort of check and recap things as they happen. As you get proficient in any subject you require the pause less and less, so it sort of eliminates itself after a while. Handy.
-
Fri13 and Frederd put pretty much all the points to the table, so I'll try to recap and keep it brief and simple: What the tutorial asks you to do, is to get your nose down for the attack. It is faster (and in real life way more comfortable) to roll upside down, pull the nose down and turn upright again. Nothing more, nothing less. As you are trying to find the targets, it may be a good idea to hit pause for the first couple of tries so you have infinite time to zoom in on the target area and try to spot what you are shooting at. This is not viable in the long run, but can be used to get your eyes and brain accustomed to spotting the targets by naked eye. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Since I'm on mobile I'd rather not go fishing for the post that talked about it, but I remember the multiseat being talked about in and out. The Jester AI is going to ve a stand-in for singleplayer missions and for multiplayer if you don't have an actual WSO/RIO to fly with. I was in the assumption that it was already common knowledge, but then again one one shouldn't really assume things. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Might just be a brainfart.... yes, the model for the Hornet is C and no sign of a two-seater in the forseeable future... Though the F-14 and the F-4 are coming and will have multicrew.
-
I wonder how much effort such a feature would require technically... excluding all the modeling and texture work for the ground crew assets...
-
Positive news indeed. When may we see the G-modeling take effect?... or will it be introduced with the other AI-improvements on a later date?

1990 clouds in 2017 sim?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Lange_666's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
The rest of the sim has gotten such a facelift (espevially the alpha branch) that the old clouds are more and more noticeable. So yes, they were always this bad, just that the rest of the sim has been updated. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
For the unknowledgeable it seems to be an iron sight with the front part of the sight on the other glass pane (as seen on the picture). I wonder if it has multiple purposes? But I'm just a dummy.
-
If all accounts are to be believed I don't expect it to arrive any later than the last week of september. So there, we have our release date with the power of deduction... ... wait :D
-
I wonder how much CPU capacity is released by this: "Decreased CPU load of SAM groups." Naturally it depends on how many (and how large) SAM-groups there are in a scenario, but the question still stands. Every bit of optimization like this is very welcome.

You can see one or two on the left against the river if you zoom in a lot... Transmission power lines, especially in foresty-areas can be very difficult to see from low altitude until you are literally over them... naturally depending on the atmospheric conditions and background color (which in this case hides the lines). Also the added dark forest hides most of the towers.

Looking back at how big a change it was from 1.2 to 1.5 (which I know I have forgotten about) and now looking at the Gigantic! change we have been teased about... to me the New Caucasus will be a turning point... 1.5 was "just" an update. But this. I feel the new Caucasus will genuinely feel like a brand new map altogether. Sure the locales are old and the airfields.... but now they actually look like real places instead of some mishmash of 2D-trees and a landscape from 2005. I think (and hope) that the merge will breathe new life into the sim and hopefully brings a bunch of new people to it as well. For after the merge, stable doesn't feel like a "free demo", but a complete, cutting edge sim. Nice. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

My senses predict the new caucasus will be added eventually to alpha version 2.4. which will turn into 2.5 beta and stable later. Now I just wish my predictions were ever at all accurate :D

I would find a reconnaissance aircraft with optical camera systems interesting in MP-scerarios... kind of what we have with the Viggens ability to do reconnaissance with its RWR. You could fly above the enemy territory high and fast to take pictures for strikers to use in their missions. Certainly this would be for the minority of players, but I would find it compelling to have *someone* on a server flying recce and BDA. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Well, now the Hind is publicly announced, so more Helos, Ahoy! In addition to that, Wags mentioned in the recent Q&A that some version of the Apache is not a question of 'if', but 'when'... So no Apache for a while, but it is likely we will see it in the long run. Naturally as it was not a 'public announcement' I would take it with a pinch of salt. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Prowler is barely keeping a straight face :D

Most likely. The release has been stated as during Q3, and confirmed multiple times over the laast two or three weeks that they are on schedule. I certainly take it that Razbam is hard at work to make sure their estimate is met... And as Razbam doesn't seem to have a separate person devoted to communication and PR, I'd say that every second chatting with us is away from the final stages of developement. I think it is time we leave Razbam to do their work. If the timeframe holds true we will see results within 2 months. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet
-
Then again the info Wags mentions in the message has already started trickling in... So going by what has already happened, I conclude he was indeed talking about Early Access release. ... Choo-Choo, Matt! We need another signature for the hype-express. :D

The new tech and format is the same we already have with NTTR and Normandy. The new caucasus will not bring any new map formats tot he table, but rather recreates the old Caucasus in the format the current Alpha uses. Though of course there may (and probably will) be changes or additions to the technology (it is still in Alpha after all), but that doesn't really change the gist on the map techs. I don't know if you have noticed, but 2.1 uses the new lighting and water physics already. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet
-
I'm sorry, what? Have I missed something? Isn't the new terrain system what we already have with NTTR and Normandy? And it is the same format that is used to remake Caucasus and to build SoH... You have me at a loss, good sir.

SideStrafe Q&A&Combat with Matt 'Wags' Wagner
MikeMikeJuliet replied to NineLine's topic in Community News
I am aware of the recent plans for aircraft, but as it stands they are not yet in the game. Anyway... it is good to hear things sort of wrapped up again and hear they have not been phased out. Not sure if every bullet was old, but you are right, the info for most things has been out there in bits and pieces. -

I would be interested to know if creating DCS-level recent Russian aircraft is problematic to ED only, or to non-Russian 3rd parties as well... What I'm getting at here is: Is ED - being a russian company - bound itself, or is DCS as a product bound from having modern russian fighters altogether. If the latter is the case, then we should not be expecting any 3rd party to create such aircraft either. I hope it is just ED... we so need at least something newer than the MiG-21... Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
I'm all for a 3D-kneeboard on the lap... I much rather turn my head and look, than press a button to fill my screen with the current kneeboard. There were also a couple of other kneeboard-threads here somewhere
