  1. Apparently in real life the hud isn't fully visible and you have to bob your head a bit to see it all.
  2. Neither are ready, so end of discussion, apparently.
  3. Double click the mouse wheel, then hold down the mouse wheel and roll it back. The seat will move back. Depress and roll forward and the seat goes forward. I have a macro set in voice attack that puts me in the correct position via a voice command. Use the cockpit seat height adjust switch as required.
  4. Yeah, your advice remains general, while mine is more nuanced.
  5. I'll tell you what, I've worn real NVG and what you get in VR is really close if you're doing night oops. Yeah, people cry about the res, but monitors are still laughable in comparison. I don't know why the anti VR brigade get so unset. Anyway, I want the feeling of being in the cockpit, Not being at a remote operator station.
  6. Yes, I accept that some people are unadaptable. They will still be unadaprable come get 2. Anyway, gen 1 isn't a compromise in the right hands.
  7. I don't find VR a restriction. For example, I can deploy in an A-10C and control every function using the HOTAS, head controlled mouse and Voice Attack. I do read comments in here from a lot of people who don't seem to be able to adapt and overcome, though. For that reason I say VR is ready but that some people just lack the ability to bring together all the tools needed to operate within it.
  8. Come on, it's a massive game changer even today. Monitors are just laughable even compared to the VR development kits. I think VR gets a bad rep from all those people suffering from buyer's remorse over the expensive hardware it makes redundant. You don't see many people bragging about their triple G-sync blah blah blah any more. I say don't wait. Why waste a day with the underwhelming experience of projectors let alone monitors. Why waste time building a cockpit that looks nothing like the real thing and is utter unimmersive? Cost isn't even an issue when you look at what you get. Sure people wet the bed over resolution then turn a blind eye the the miniature flat jokeness that is 2d. And 3D on a monitor is rubbish too. :)
  9. Actually they do this all the time with trackIr, TM Warthog, triple screen support etc. If the lowest common denominator was some guy with a single monitor, mouse and keyboard then DCS would be a waste of hard drive space. ED need to support this new innovation as a matter of urgency, imo.
  10. Just stay out of the public rooms then! You going to bin the internet because there are bucket mouths on it? BS in a fantastic tool. Need to troubleshoot a mate's PC? Then get a room in BS and you can see his desktop. Tacview briefings are amazing on BS too. The surface has just been scratched as far is its usefulness is concerned, but you stay away because someone swore. The internet isn't a church!
  11. Don't get sentimental over operating systems, they are just tools. Onward and upward.
  12. You should try Tacview in Big Screen. Truly jaw dropping.
  13. I get your point re tounch conrollers in general and I agree with it, but no matter what type of controller you reach for, there's no need to not have a hand on the stick and have controll compromised.
  14. Yep but you should only be letting go of the throttle unless the AP is on. Using voice attack I just say 'mouse' and the cursor appears. If I can get the cursor to the switch I want with head tracking I just say 'click' and if I can't comfortably get there with head tracking I just reach for the track ball. Adapt and overcome.
  15. My dream is to have both hands tracked.
  16. Agreed, but some people might be lacking physically. Obviously not a problem for people of average fitness though.
  17. Then why not use the YouTube tutorials?
  18. The only misdirected information was coming from you and your side. You even managed to take FAA explanations and misinterpret them. All through this you have failed to even bother to check your theories directly in DCS. So don't blame others for your own inability to think things through logically, understanding relevant information, test, observe correctly and form fact based conclusions.
  19. Ok, different strokes. I'm addicted to VR! :)
  20. Im surprised you can't operate the A-10 effectively in VR. I use the TMWH HOTAS in conjunction with VoiceAttack and a track ball. I don't feel in anyway compromised with VR, even in the A-10. Adapt and overcome.
  21. Indeed and this new aerodynamic theory is definitely not modelled in DCS, so all its proponents need to go and file a bug report, that's if they actually have the courage of their convictions, of course, and if they have time inbetween Flat Earth and new Earth Science conventions.
  22. What he said: This is wrong. A steady crosswind only has a navigational effect on a plane in flight. From the FFA book: We know that any disturbances in yaw, like from a gust, will be neutralised by the relative wind as it flows around the aircraft and restores direction stability.
  23. What's not right is his faulty reasoning that the wind and relative wind both combine to act upon the plane in flight with a net aerodynamic force, like they definitely do on the ground. Sure, an in flight gust will have an aerodynamic effect but that will only be transient and the aerodynamic force of the relative wind will put the plane back into a directional stable state. Note that after regaining directional stability, the plane might not be on the same heading as before. Think of gusts and general turbulence as being like bumps and potholes in the road. Are you any clearer now?
  24. The picture shows the relative wind hitting the fuselage and fin with enough aerodynamic force to bring the plane back into alignment with the relative wind and into a state of directional stability. From the same page:
