It was called the "Create Fast Mission" generator. What's been lost with the introduction of the new QAG is this: The ability to, in approximately 60 to 90 seconds, with essentially one click (because it saved your previous settings like "Blue Air Units - MAX") create a battle field that had 200+ units that were not where I knowingly placed them... and that is key. We now no longer have an option in DCS to create a fast, high unit count mission that is RANDOM in nature. This is a huge single-player feature loss for me... I'm assuming it is missed by others, too. I also constantly used the CFM generator to create a base mission for, say, the A-10. After one or two clicks, I now had a mission of 270+ units and an a-10 group poised for CAS. Then, in the ME... I just dropped in a Hornet and made it "PLAYER." VOILÀ! I had a single player Hornet mission that was close to random in nature... and a populated world in order to enter into. This whole creation process took me less than 3 minutes. If someone at ED or in the community can suggest a simple, just-as-good-if-not-better way to continue to accomplish this without a third-party mod or bringing back the old CFM generator, then I'm all ears. If not, please bring the CFM generator back.

Quick Action Generator | DCS Summary | Virpil 1v1 Dogfights

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but the old CFM generator also remembered your last parameters the first time you started it as well. (i.e. - it remembered the last map, mission, Red/Blue force unit numbers, weather, time, aircraft, wingman number, etc...) -
I think a fair number of faithful DCS'ers would love to see the CFM generator restored. It doesn't have to be in place of the new QAG...only in addition to. I think I speak for at least a few in the community who miss the CFM generator. (Yes, I know it had bugs and I'm aware of the WW2 limitations...all of which can be squashed).

Indeed.

I've yet to see a sub-five minute load of the new QAG...and, as said above, I could generate a 200+ unit (randomized) mission that could be saved and manipulated further in the ME, in less than 2 minutes. With the old "CFM" generator, I used to take a minute to generate a 250 unit scenario...then go into the ME and create your 4v4 dogfight in a more chaotic/busy/unpredictable environment, and click "FLY", all in about 3-4 minutes. I'm not alone in my criticism of the new tool. I know it will improve over time, I'd just like to have the old CFM generator back.

That's perfectly fine, but if that's the case, then it probably should not have replaced the "create fast mission" (CFM) generator, which truly performed quickly and was totally unlike the ME...in a good way. I'm just upset that, given what it is, it has actually replaced the CFM option, which was arguably more beginner friendly and flexible.
-
100% agree... and not 'fast as.' The ME is 50 times faster.
-
Don't worry... I think they're going to absolutely nail the Dynamic Campaign. I'd say that the QAG release is quite uncharacteristic... as I find that most of ED's new features move the sim/experience forward. They're absolutely allowed a misstep now and again.

I actually love DCS' overall user interface because it is simple and low-frills. I'd consider the DCS non-gamer interface to be one of its many strengths. I just happen to hate the new QAG.

100% this. ^^^

It may not be stuck. I just watched the QAG take 14 minutes to load a 10 unit mission on the Marianas Map. You might try it again and just let it sit for 10 - 20 minutes to see if it eventually loads. As for this new feature, it's garbage at this point. Anyone who's ever used the ME or the "create fast mission" generator will find this new feature frustrating and absurdly limited at best...
-
Agreed. It doesn't help that it freezes and crashes every other launch for me. It just feels like a clunkier version of the Mission Editor, but with fewer options. I think the ME is awesome and that the old "create fast mission" generator was different enough to warrant its existence, too. But as for this, I will likely never touch the QAG again.

I'd really love to have the old "create fast mission" feature back. The new QAG is not quick, and it is way too much work to not be the full-fledged ME. I used the old one to create somewhat random "surprise" missions with lots of units. It was not perfect, but it was indeed fast and gave us the option of instantly creating a mini-scenario with lots of ground and air units. So far, the new QAG is just a paired down version of the Mission Editor... Maybe I just need to wait for the bugs to get squashed, but I'd love to see the Create fast mission generator stick around as an option. I find the full-on Mission editor itself to be awesome and plenty quick enough to create the more specific scenarios that the new QAG is currently providing.

Agreed. I'm only really interested in saving, say, my Raven One Campaign mission mid-ingress and coming back to it tomorrow after some normal life interruption.

You're speaking nonsense. The Hornet has multiple internal fuel tanks, along with every other aircraft ever designed. Additionally, Vipers (along with Hornets) almost never deploy on combat missions without external tanks. There are anecdotes out there that speak of Viper squadrons that essentially never take off the two external wing-tanks.

Interesting report. What source was this article from?

Doesn't matter whether "you care" or not... you can still mount a TGP on the Hornet's centerline pylon with excellent results.
-
Yes you can...LITENING.

Indeed... and it looks fantastic.

On GS's server, your Viper opponents will: a.) Load up 6 AMRAAMS b.) accelerate to Mach 1.5+ c.) climb to 40K+ ft d.) kill you.

It would be really nice to get a "Sun bloom" or "HDR" slider added to options. Not sure if this is real, but since upgrading to Windows 11 from 10 two weeks ago, I find the sun glare when the sun is lower after (3p-4p(ish) and on to sunset) in-game to be almost overwhelming...washing out everything around it. It is affected in the cockpit directly by zoom. Zoom out, it gets much worse...zoom in, it looks a lot more realistic. I will post tracks/screenshots when I get a chance...but it is pretty over the top. I play with gamma settings between 1.8 and 2.0 during daylight simming.

Dcs should become more keyboard and mouse friendly

I think you should get a cheap stick with a throttle lever at a garage sale...don't spend more than $20. -
"Marked as Solution."

Just curious - what is your gamma slider set at? I usually keep it at 1.8 - 2.0 for daytime flying...however, at night I usually have to slide it up to 2.3-2.7 in order to get a realistic look.
