  1. The Legacy Hornet seems to be THE most underrated 4th Gen fighter out there. If you're interested, I started a thread with links to real Eagle, Strike Eagle, Tomcat, Hornet and Viper drivers praising the performance capabilities of the Legacy Hornet.
  2. ALL of our 4th Gen Legacy fighters are amazing platforms, and we are being treated to the Golden Age of mil flight sim by ED right now. However... Almost weekly, I'll come across some YT video of a DCS PvP BFM fight, a real world Hornet driver praising the jet, real world non-Hornet driver praising the jet, etc...when, invariably, someone in the comment section (or in the ole' forums) will say something like the following under an interview with former F-14D Tomcat & F/A-18A Hornet Pilot Mike Vizcarra (below): and other general slams such as: "The Hornet is a lame duck" "The Tomcat is superior in BFM" "The Viper is superior in every way, especially in BFM" "The Eagle is superior in BFM" "The DCS Hornet is overpowered because I lost to it in BFM" etc. etc. It seems to me that the Legacy Hornet (especially the big-engine Charlie) is one of the most misunderstood, underrated dogfighters in the world. For those who are interested, I thought I'd drop you a bunch of (mostly) time-stamped links to various real world F-15C, F-15E, F-14A/D, F-16C T-bird, and Legacy Hornet crew praising the Legacy Charlie and its WVR performance, and busting some other coffee-table-book-myths about the Legacy Hornet. One thing to note: ALL of the men here have plenty of DACT experience against every 4th Gen USAF/Navy fighters (which of course many of them talk about if you want to watch the whole video). Finally, HUGE shout outs to Mike and Steve at AC Interview and 10 Percent True! If you don't subscribe to either of these guys' online content, you are missing out BIG TIME. Enjoy... 3. Hey, Bloodhound. Probably sold long ago, but I'm in the market for a Warthog stick to go for a base that I currently already own. Are these still available, and if so, would you be willing to sell one only? I live in Kansas.
  4. Got it...though I was wrong about the JHMCS: It does show (at least a selection of A/C) an ID based on NCTR alone. But you have to, apparently, select it via the "STEP" function on the SA page first to get it to display on the HMD. Looking forward to that extra AZEL data window in the future. **EDIT** It does appear that the only way to get the NCTR print on the JHMCS is to select the "STEP" option on the SA page first. Is this the RL documented behavior? Seems a bit clunky as is.
  5. Hey, Fellas. Quick question: Where exactly is the aircraft type (F-15, Mig29, etc.) data coming from that is displayed on my JHMCS HAFU or on the AZ/EL page? I ask because, in practice, it appears that it does NOT (frustratingly) seem to come from my own-ship NCTR capability... If I have JHMCS and the AZ/EL page up, and go 1v1 against another aircraft, the SA page is the only place that I can get the NCTR print. Should that data also show up on AZ/El and JHMCS at that point, without any donor help (AWACS, wingmen, etc)? And when I do get that ID data on the AZEL/JHMCS, it isn't clear to me where that's coming from if not from NCTR... Thanks.
  6. ^^^ This...100%. DCS has struck an INCREDIBLE balance between eye-candy and simulation power. It absolutely needs to be optimized and it is most certainly a hardware destroyer, but it is doing so much more than the 'other' flight sims out there. "You collided with an object and caused critical damage to the aircraft."
  7. Indeed... we won't be seeing AESA in DCS in my lifetime. One can only dream... Very true.
  8. While AESA is on the discussion-table, I'd take a simulation of these few USMC Legacy Hornet's that are being upgraded to the APG-79(V)4 AESA over the "Super" Hornet any day. As "Wombat" Marston and other Hornet drivers have said, "there's nothing 'super' about the super Hornet."
  9. Man, Gonky... these cockpit vids...showcasing the maneuverability of the Legacy Hornet. So, good!
  10. But you're not concerned about the other DCS jets with Link16 that can and do the exact same thing?
  11. Wow... that video looks just like DCS! Our humble sim has buffeting, turbulence, wind resistance, and aircraft that roll as well. Thanks for supporting ED.

    F-15E vs. F-18C

These two Eagle Drivers would beg to differ. The Eagle is certainly superior in the BVR arena... not in close.
  13. Actually, in my tests... there were TONS of visible air to air and Sam missiles in flight with no drops (for me) below 50 FPS (i'm locked at 60 max). However, when vehicles start rolling, the FPS drop intermittently from 60 down into the 30s and everywhere in between. Again, if they are launching junk, but static (not producing dust-wake) there's no penalty. I think this is a separate issue from above as, in my example, the vehicles can be 100 miles from my jet and it impacts the FPS as I've described. The whole "looking through smoke" issue has been around for years and years.
  14. Doing some testing today and will post tracks later, but it appears to me from my initial findings that vehicles in motion, creating the larger (and newer?) of the various types of dust trails, are having a major impact on framerates on my end. Feel free to do some testing on your own and beat me to track-posting. Simple test is this: Have, say 60 Blue MBT's vs. 60 Red MBT's facing each other, with no movement... then run the mission again with them assigned a WP and watch the FPS difference. Static attacks don't seem to create a huge problem, but when the vehicles start moving, different story. I'm on O.B. 2.8 latest...
  15. Hear, Hear!! DCS has to be the most ambitious, realistic, and remarkable military (flight or otherwise) simulator ever released to the public! It is absolutely brilliant. It is a resource HOG to be sure, and it is the bane of the VR crowd at the moment it appears...but as an old-school-pancake guy, DCS is simply the greatest. When a Dynamic campaign finally arrives, married to some proper HT and Vulkan implementation...my goodness. And then there's Winwing: this is the golden age of military flight sim-ing - And Eagle Dynamics has led the charge. Keep at it, Team!
  16. It would be cool (and perhaps helpful?) someday to have items like Sustained & Instantaneous Turn rate, roll rate, etc. added to the Info. Bar that is real-time telemetry for the user. It would allow users to see how much their loadouts, drop-tanks, altitudes, etc. were affecting flight performance.
  17. They're new... and pretty sweet.
  18. Please disregard... It was partly cloudy for the test mission and there was a cloud parked right over the sun, causing the lack of cockpit/shadow contrast. My bad, not ED's.

    F404 vs EPE

It's a nice little succinct summary of the advantages of the -402s. Thanks, F-2.
