  1. Unloaded acceleration definitely helps in the F-14 as with just about anything else. I seem to remember half a G positive for the push over being a rule of thumb somewhere… You want to avoid zero G so the engines don’t starve.
  2. Not the Heatblur manual, the real world performance manual issued by the navy, NAVAIR 01-F14AAA-1.1 for the F-14A
  3. I’ve always wanted to see those systems in action on any of the relevant airframes.
  4. I don’t think anyone official has suggested that from either side. I mentioned in another thread that HB did an excellent job with their implementation and they stated in one of their updates that they were open to the possibility of licensing their tech (specifically Anvil) to other teams. Politics aside, to bring in HB’s radar tech you’d likely have to rebuild all the F-5’s systems in Anvil. Basically build the whole plane over again, aside from art. HB’s been doing that themselves porting the F-14 to Anvil at least as far back as the F-4 release and that work is still ongoing. Long story short, it’s possible but extremely unlikely.
  5. Fingers crossed!
  6. I think it feels that way because converting the 14 to the new system to port Jester 2.0 and other Phantom features is time consuming and can’t be done piecemeal, it’s gotta be one big code base shift.
  7. Sure but that's also part of the bug triage process.
  8. A moderator can't help you here. Go ahead and file a bug and put all your data there. If they agree then they'll move it to the backlog.
  9. And here we are in 2024 with at least one dev who made it happen (Heatblur F-4E): So it's definitely possible to make the F-5E radar VERY convincing compared to what we have now, ED would just have to commit to the (major) task of re-writing it. That said, HB have expressed interest in licensing their Anvil platform to others so theoretically all that pulse radar code from the F-4E could be ported to the F-5E. Still no small task since you'd likely have to convert the entire plane to Anvil but it is at least possible. (Sorry to necro but this seemed the most relevant thread)
  10. It can display unknown emitters, it just wouldn’t be able to determine priority very well, I’d imagine. Depending on where you’re flying, it might make sense to assume an UNK means imminent death… Wouldn’t that fall under the LAUNCH warning or is it specifically tailored to SAMs?
  11. Thankfully not an issue on the F-14.
  12. Using AI to replace voice work in a game has been done before (ironically, it’s becoming commonplace in Cyberpunk 2077) but personally I think it’s a terrible practice and needs to end. First off, you’re taking work away from voice actors. Second, most of the time these mods are attempting to make characters sound like specific Hollywood actors which is use of likeness without permission. Scarlett Johansson has already gotten lawyers involved after OpenAI did just that. Third, training AI to do this work takes what I would consider an unethical amount of power, like crypto mining power in some cases. Lastly, there are far better uses for AI than replacing creative jobs. Like solving hard problems that can’t be solved by humans in a conventional manner.
  13. As far as dynamic range goes, sure, but in the Phantom when you open the canopy with engines running you can immediately hear a plausible change in acoustics more than just loudness and it would be reasonable to expect a similar effect on the F-14.
  14. I mean, IAS would be much more useful in my opinion, but I'm sure a2a callouts will be added, either way.
  15. Recommend not trying to learn both at the same time lol.
  16. I figured as much. Thanks for the effort, it’s much appreciated. As an SP-only player I wouldn’t have bought the F-4 or F-14 if it weren’t for Jester and, though he has his faults, I’ve enjoyed both immensely in a way I didn’t think would be possible for a 2-seater in a sim.
  17. No glove vanes, this has been discussed frequently and HB doesn’t consider it worth the effort. There are other visual cues. The gun vents are a good one.
  18. Ha! My thoughts, exactly. Every time an old plane gets released there’s an ask for one with more modern systems. I get it, these planes are tricky to fly and take time to learn, wouldn’t it nice if I just had all the tools the Hornet has? Personally, though, I like flying in historically correct (or at least plausible) scenarios. The Phantom we have now performs well against adversaries from its time period. A modernized Phantom should realistically go up against anything in the catalog and anything 4th gen will have a massive performance advantage, a massive BVR advantage and far better SA with datalinks and such. Combat in DCS is tough enough when on equal footing, in my perspective. I’m not enough of a masochist to go all Dark Souls by challenging proper modern aircraft in something 50 years old, modernized or not.
  19. The ASE circle should grow as you approach the target, it just shouldn’t be abruptly changing size. Staying constant size is another sign of a bad lock.
  20. Yeah, the manual for the gun states 5-11 rounds will fire while clearing and another 4-9 live rounds will be returned to the magazine. I’d be shocked if this behavior wasn’t simulated. Later versions of the gun have a separate cam track that avoids chambering the rounds while clearing so firing ceases immediately and all 9-20 rounds return to the magazine unfired. I would be shocked if this was not simulated on the F-14. As for burst quantity, it looks like ground crews could set a specific limit for total rounds fired during an entire flight but not per burst. Guessing that was used for gunnery training.
  21. Why? As stated earlier, you have controls back there. And you can engage AFCS first if you want it hands off.
  22. What’s wrong with using the stick in the back seat?
  23. It’s not just flawed missiles, the radar itself is prone to bad locks in CAA mode and I’m sure Jester isn’t immune, either. If the steering dot or ASE don’t make sense you probably locked onto something other than the intended target. If that happens, just bump the nose wheel steering button and try again.
  24. I had no idea the gun pods could be armed on the ground… I guess weight on wheels interlocks were a more modern invention.
