Have you ever tried turning the engine governors off to get more performance? Would it make you able to kill the engines by being in high ERP for too long?

Can you jettison rotor blades without ejecting? This is admittedly very niche, but if I am going to do a hard landing and don't want to eject to not destroy the heli, I might want to jettison the rotor blades on touchdown, so that they don't hit the ground if I flip over, etc. This is the first stage of the ejection process. Does anyone know if there is a way to do it?

Not realistic but we've already crossed that line. Alternatively the LLTV Merkury.

I second the request to move the "no alignment needed but fixtaking" option into YOUR special options. Fast INS alignment is insufficient for combat use (datalink targets). I don't want to have to align for 15-20 mins of real time, and neither do I want the arcade option of no drift if the server selects it.

The laser temperature is modelled, and it depends on how much you actually fire it. If you don't want to burn it out, don't keep it on if you don't need range, obey the timeout counter, and reset after destroying the target (it fires for a few more seconds to give you a buffer). If you do this, it should last for an extra reload of Vikhrs. Otherwise the proper thing to do is wait for it to cool down. I have never burned it out even not obeying these procedures with the initial 12 shots. It's only if you reload and get back into action quickly when you have a problem. There is no thermometer in the real helicopter, so there is no justification to add it. I think you can do a trick where if you suffer any damage, or set off the fire extinguisher, a repair will reset the laser temp, because it respawns your aircraft.

Just try turning it down a bit. It increases clarity in the center too, you might get better results with it than such heavy supersampling.

Grenades are decent only at close range against unarmored targets. They are very hard to aim as well. Don't bother against defended positions.

https://almalence.com/dlplugin/ This plugin improves clarity and reduces blurriness noticeably. But generally it is a physical limitation of the lenses.

Pimax Crystal w/earphones. Need a Good Quality Mic.. Suggestions??
PawlaczGMD replied to ThePutzer's topic in Virtual Reality
No, Crystal runs OpenXR. -
The visuals in DCS look really off when looking at terrain. I observe weird shimmering/flickering of textures. It also looks too bright, even though my gamma is lowered. The cockpit looks great and I don't observe such an effect inside the aircraft. It also doesn't appear on the mirrored VR view on my monitor, where things look normal. Does anyone else experience this kind of effect? Any ideas?

Yes, I'm not sure of the exact nature of it, but even changing to the engineer in flight can cause a sudden jerk of the heli and uncontrolled flight. I just don't do it in flight. I agree that losing the cargo view is especially painful, but I just use the external view. Honestly, you don't want to see the cargo bay textures anyway.

Mi-8 DISS-15 Doppler nav rollercounter detail
PawlaczGMD replied to TasDozer's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm not a Russian speaker, so I'm not the best person to do this and find them all. But you can see an example here, all 3 labels in a single instrument are inaccurate or straight up misleading. -
A NEW DLC CAMPAIGN FOR THE Mi-8?
PawlaczGMD replied to CHPL's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
From some limited combat practice from me, attacking infantry and light vehicles is totally doable and effective. I think anything up to Humvees or equivalent is a viable target. And don't forget your gunners, which don't require you aiming, and are quite effective against the above targets. I would agree that destroying stuff should not be the focus of Mi-8's missions, but you could certainly have some of it. Some enemies could be not primary targets, but simply threats to self-defend from, like maybe you can help clearing an LZ. Hinds could do the heavy lifting, and the Mi-8 helps out. A reasonable and partially optional amount of combat would spice things up. -
Yes, I cannot recommend sightless bombing in helis without delayed fuzes, it is simply not practical. The Ka-50 can do it because of the TV targeting. Give us a bombing sight or fuzing for the Mi-8. It is still niche to bomb, but it would be a cool option.

Slightly off-topic, the English cockpit contains a few more bad/mis-translations. It could stand to be updated. -
A NEW DLC CAMPAIGN FOR THE Mi-8?
PawlaczGMD replied to CHPL's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yes, a Mi-8 campaign would be good. I would personally prefer it to be more combat-focused (ofc the Mi-8 is not meant to shoot stuff primarily, but at least you can have hot LZ, CSAR, etc.). That is because we already have a lot of civil-focused campaigns. And I think that the Mi-8 is rather simple to fly, actually. There are a million switches, but most are just set on startup and work. If you automate radio navigation and parts of startup, the need to switch seats could be almost eliminated. Doppler nav is the main reason to switch to copilot, but it could possibly be reduced with voice lines giving directions. -
Make sure your eye tracking is calibrated. It should definitely not make text look worse. However I do observe some bugs with quadviews. In some lighting, weird square outlines are visible, mostly looking towards the sun. Also, ground crew sometimes do a weird texture flicker as they enter/leave the high res area. Not sure if anyone else has similar experience. You can try quadviews companion app to tune the parameters like resolution, sharpness, transition, area of high res square...

Yeah, this is a pain. I had it working fine initially by adding the game .exe to "imported" games in Pimax Home. Try this. But after a system reinstall, it doesn't work well. What still works is if I launch from DCS Updater GUI Utility. Download it (free tool) and launch in OpenXR, using the launch VR button. Also download PimaxXR control center and deselect SteamVR there. Go ahead and try these things.

Yeah, that's a very good way to do it. As long as the wingman AI does SOMETHING, and I do my best, it's still enjoyable to fly the mission, and you're not frustrated by arbitrary targets like "you must kill 8/10 vehicles, 7/10 will not do".
-
Sure, but it depends on the mission if that's possible. I have really struggled in A2G in the paid F-5 campaign, because e.g. you have to destroy most of a large convoy with AAA and Iglas using only 5 bombs and rockets, the F-5 barely flies with that loadout, and the wingman AI is bugged and they don't attack anything. This is an example of requiring unreasonable accuracy
-
The F-4E will hardly be the most primitive DCS aircraft. People fly the F-5 without crying about the issues you're worrying about. Same for the Mig-21, although it cheats with CCIP. As long as the missions have realistic expectations on bombing accuracy (given weak DCS explosions), we will be fine.

What causes ABRIS (GLONAS) display deviation?
PawlaczGMD replied to Usagi's topic in Bugs and Problems
You need to laser range to produce an accurate Shkval target position on the ABRIS. You don't have a range on the screen, so you didn't do this. In this case the system will try to guesstimate the target position just based on angles, but sometimes this is wrong by a lot. Another issue is for the heading angle- the GNSS doesn't know your heading, only position, so this is taken from your instruments. Check on the F10 map that your HSI shows the true heading correctly. If not, you can manually adjust it. One way is to switch the Man/Gyro/MH toggle to MH for a few seconds while keeping constant heading, then back to Gyro. I'm not sure if this is affected by the INU alignment precision, but quick alignment might cause your heading to degrade quicker.
