  1. You use a standalone monitor on your notebooks? Anyway, I though we were speaking about the IP's setup, here? He either has a notebook with an ATI 4670, so he's probably forced to either use HDMI or VGA or he has a desktop PC with the ATI 4670 so he'd require a new graphics card to use HDMI connection. As I got the impression we're talking about a desktop PC, that would be one hell of an investment to use fency new plugs for little to none advantage over DVI.
  2. 2. The VIKHR are mounted on a pylon that can move the missiles up and down to optimize their launch-direction with the laser-beam. As the VIKHR is a beamrider-missile, it's necessary that the missile flies in close proximity to the beam. In manual mode this auto-adjustment is not active, so you have to point your nose better to the laser. If you don't the VIKHR will just miss the beam and fall down uncontrolled. The advantage is, though, that you can utilize the VIKHR beyond the optimum engagement range. 3. AFAIK this is more a test-mode for easy calculation (thus 1,000km/h) which comes in handy, when programming a custom flight-plan. 4. INU alignment works, yes, but as the INU does not build up error in the current implementation, there is no need to do it. 5. This corrects magnetic deviation AFAIK in conjunction with the INU. Don't know if it's modeled. 7. Check 10-23 for when and how it's used. 8. Try disabling EGT governors. 10. You can edit, save and load plans from the HDD, but AFAIK the procedure is slightly different. Please look for the appropriate thread. 12. AFAIK it works. 13. Hovermode is not dependent on waypoints, Routemode without a programmed route (in the PVI) AFAIK uses the course on the HSI. Not sure, though. 14. AFAIK you should enable the HMS after engaging the scanmode. Maybe it's stated in the wrong order? 15. AFAIK it increases engine fatigue. If you e.g. collect dust while flying low, the engines might die earlier. As there is just a "per mission" fatigue, it does not have an effect as it would have in RL, I guess. It's nice to see you take the term "Study Sim" so literally. Hope you enjoy flying as much.
  3. Yeah... let me introduce my AI-wingman, returning to home safely after a fierce battle: :music_whistling:
  4. HDMI and DVI use the same standards, transfer-rates and hardware. Besides the different plugs the only difference is, that the HDMI transfers audio-signals, which only a few graphics-cards are capable of, and the HDMI-chipset including a hardware copy-protection (HDCP). Your choice, if this is an advantage to pay for.
  5. Windows 7 and Vista are identical - at least beyond the optics. So thread-sharing won't improve from Vista to Win7. The problem is running in windowed mode. I'm sorry to say that reinstalling won't have changed that either. :(
  6. Yes, it's a pitty. Still hoping they'll change their mind and waiting for the TM Warthog here.
  7. Hm, odd that you have just one core used 100%. IMHO running the game in windowed mode is the problem. You should disable Windows AERO, maybe even window-designs, Windows Gadgets and the Sidebar. Active Desktop features should also be disabled. If you want to give it the edge, remove the desktop wallpaper. This may gain a bit rendering power for the game itself. Maybe you should also try to systematically eliminate background processes. I hope you don't have the Ultimate Version, which would give you a lot of things to deactivate (been down that road myself). Other than that, you might decrease workload by minimizing Windows-Services. There are a lot of tools for service-optimizing available. Of course these are all ideas how to optimize performance. They're no wonder-cure with your current config. BTW: If your monitors are similar in resolution, you can also unify them to one screen in Vista. AFAIK you should be able to run your game in fullscreen-mode with 3cam-configuration and "phantom"-monitor. I tested this a while ago, but I'm not an expert on that.
  8. If you have just one active core with BS 1.01, that means you are probably running your game on XP. XP does not support rendering single-threaded programs on multiple cores, so the benefit from your change is minimal. You need Win7 or Vista to be able to run a single-threaded game like DCS or FC1/2 on multiple cores. The other problem is the fact, that you probably run the game in windowed mode. That's a heavy FPS-killer.
  9. It was not a waste of time. It was showing what they were capable of doing, but without the necessity of producing a completely new flight-, physics-, navigational-, environmental- and graphics-engine. Hopefully their knowledge will also be needed and used to build a true F/A-18 simulator. At least I'd love to see a cooperation between them an ED to get a top-notch DCS: F/A-18. How realistic that idea is, may be a different question, though.
  10. I guess, there are not many new releases on the Falcon-Front to complain about?
  11. Yes, that was him. One of my favorite actors and as most guys who play the clown a contemplative man. One of my favorite quotes: "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again!" Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread - back to topic.
  12. +1 This explanation is ridiculous.
  14. She speaks with forked tongue. ;)
  15. There is no such thing as a perfect product, no matter how long it takes or how long experts try to make it perfect. And the more complex the product, the more chances for error there are. Question is how you personally life and deal with this fact. Do you accept it, report the error you found and help it being fixed, or do you rather tend to get upset, insult other people and make a fool of yourself. Your choice.
  16. It's a game manual. Why do you take it for real? :music_whistling:
  17. Boy, that search-function on the forum really is a great help. Sometimes I think that people need a search-function to find the search-button, though... :D
  18. That's correct. The lock has a certain play on both, the x52 and x52pro (they have the same mechanism). That is more a problem of comfort than of actual input, though. The rudder is quite sluggish around the center anyway, so the movement is usually not detected as rudder input. Besides that, you can simply remove the twist-axis from rudder mapping to be 100% sure. Nevertheless, the x52 is a good quality product for the price.
  19. A failed stick in the X52 mostly comes from cheap cables and connectors on the throttle and the connection cable. I got my stick from ebay with the same problem. Got it fixed in 5 minutes by checking and fixing the cables. I agree that the twist-rudder is not the best solution. IMHO the rudder-rocker on the X45 was a much better solution.
  20. The Apache is not the counterpart for the Ka-50, so the argument taken literally make no sense anyway. It just makes sense in a matter of "we need a flyable helo on the US-side". But that's what we already have, as we can fly the Ka-50 on all sides. Besides that, quite opposed to A2A-planes, helos and CAS-planes are simply not meant to combat each other. So making an aircraft flyable for all sides is perfect balancing. IMHO that's also why the already demanded opposing pairs, like Su33 and F/A-18, Mig29 vs F-16 or something like that, can't be transfered 1:1 to ground-pounders like the Ka-50, Su-25 or the A-10. That you'd like to see the Apache is a different question and I agree with you on that part. But I'd also see a lot of other aircraft, Russian and US.
  21. I can only support the posts above: Wait for the TM Warthog-HOTAS. Some statements say the release is pretty close (June?) and it seems very promising, not only because it would be perfect for DCS-A10C, but also because it uses modern technology and even offers some additional switches on the base of the throttle. Who knows, maybe CH Products plans to release their military A-10C stick to the public as well? Lot's of arguments to wait with your investment.
  22. OMG! :shocking: Viper and his famous crystal ball in action! :worthy: Okay, I'm off to start building my pit for DCS: F/A-18 right now. :)
  23. 10 Seconds? :D In 10 seconds the jet you want to turn behind travels 2.5km and is well out of your range.
  24. Glad we got that straight. I'll repeat my initial statement then, as well, if you don't mind: ;)
  25. Actually, that is exactly, what I'm talking about: The TM Warthog has not been released, yet, but you keep arguing, that you don't see why TM should learn from mistakes made with the Cougar. Funny enough, that on the other hand, you argue with the improvements made with the TM AB-series to underline your statement that TM is not able to learn from mistakes and release a new stick that eliminates the flaws of the predecessor. :clap_2: It may have taken longer for the Cougar, but that has nothing to do with TM's inability to improve their hardware, as you precisely underlined, but with the fact that there was no market for a new high-end stick. ;)
