    Bombers!

Of course everyone would want more flyables but the 3 I suggested would be fine for a start. Actually, like the Mosquito, the Ju87 and Me110 fit the single seat twin mould, the pilot has access to all controls the second crew member is a navigator, gunner, observer. They’d be easier than a He111 or Ju88. We have WW2 warships and transports. We could make do if necessary.

    Bombers!

I keep hoping the relative WW2 radio silence is because ED and partners are working on Nick’s BOB planeset… The thing about the BOB is that is quite self contained and with only 2/3 flyables and 4/5 AI you can make historical missions. We have the maps, they just need modifying for 1940. Flyable Spit I (We have the Mk IX) Hurricane I Me 109 E (We have the K) AI Me 110 Ju87 He111 Ju88 (we have this!!!) This is my fantasy New Year announcement anyway
  3. Pre war there was a circle pained on the grass I believe, like a target. Then they moved to a large mostly wooden T on a frame that they would drag about. The T would denote the vague landing area and the wind direction. Later in the war a white van or truck, the ground control van, was often used to indicate the active area and wind direction. Take off would be to the left of the van, landing to the right.
  4. No this was Major General “Roy” Urquart of British 1st Airborne. It’s in his book I think.
  5. They are supposed to had a very distinctive sound. Quite useful for its effect on enemy morale if nothing else. In the late stages of the Arnhem battle Urquhart mentions enemy artillery fire being suspended just by the sound of Typhoons in the distance.
  6. https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/issues/1695 These threads could help? I love my SD but I’m not sure how much satisfaction there is to be had from mobile DCS, other than as a project and just seeing it work. Wouldn’t it be better to play something else while you’re away from your desktop? Maybe?
  7. I’m not certain there are any running Sabre engines unfortunately. RR and the big US radials have support infrastructure and a decent knowledge base, it seems flying with almost anything else is problematic due to reliability concerns. There have been several crashes of Bristol big radial engined aircraft in the UK over the last few years. The Bristol engines just don’t have knowledge base that RR engines have, have complex maintenance and lubrication needs and the operators are pretty much learning as they go, sometimes with tragic results. I don’t want to be the goblin of doom but I’d be very surprised to see any Sabre engined aircraft receive an air worthiness certificate in the UK. Flying the thing would be a total leap into the unknown in 2023. However even a ground runner Typhoon would be something special.
  8. Aye the Monstertech chairs are expensive but very very comfy. I just wish I’d bought one years ago. Now I just need one at work also…

It’s been said before that the problem with larger multi crew aircraft is the amount of work involved and monetising that. Every crew station is a mini cockpit sometimes with its own systems. Some crew stations are in the middle of the aircraft meaning you have to model the whole interior in full detail. Systems are huge on multi engine aircraft, like 2/4 single engined aircraft. You really can’t compare the level of systems modelling in the other sims with what would be expected from a DCS module. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love a flyable Lancaster, but I can completely understand why we haven’t even had a flyable multi crew twin yet. The FB Mosquito is really a single crew aircraft for the purposes of the sim.
  10. Aye, DCS needs a proper ground up replay system. The current system started out as an internal debug tool iirc.
  11. Yes. Unfortunately you can’t make people behave in a realistic manner while playing a video game. This is one reason I mostly prefer offline to online, the way people fly, drive, walk or run in games/sims as opposed to real life is a total immersion killer.
  12. I do think sounds are one area where several options are needed, that way users can choose their own preference. As someone who works in an environment with constant machine noise and roaring AC it’s amazing how your brain ignores these constant sounds quickly. It seems more odd when the background noise stops… I can imagine an aircraft cockpit would be similar.
  13. Stick extension? For aircraft that use a long throw centre stick it’s the only way to go.
  14. The 3D coverage in Apple Maps is pretty good now so…
  15. I abandoned my early Rift and DCS VR a volume of years back. However I am a sucker for Apple’s ridiculously expensive gear, so this has me interested. Apple do make nice but very very expensive screens. This is supposed to be a dev model? I’d take the suggested prices with a pinch of salt. Apple’s gear has a habit of being rumored as being phenomenally expensive but then appears and is just very expensive… Surely in this niche Apple would be stupid to exclude PC gamers with their deep pockets.
  16. I don’t think Steam Charts records just MP activity though, it’s having the software running.
  17. It seems implausible that the early modules don’t have the highest ownership, unless the user base has increased hugely over the last few years. Back in 2008 everyone (or so it seemed) bought the Ka50 as other than Lock On there was nothing else, same in 2010 with the A10C. Nowadays there’s much more to choose from, but then the user base may be much larger.
  18. A2A was apparently interested in joining DCS back in 2019. The A2A guys even posted a pic of themselves and Matt W at a trade show. Then Covid and political events and… tumbleweed… I keep hoping there’ll be a sudden flurry of WW2 announcements, but then with the recent official reveals of all (well most) rumoured projects that seems unlikely.
  19. Without more specifics, date, target, etc it’s impossible to answer.
  20. I think there’s a balance. Excessive dirt and crazing doesn’t seem right, but glass that’s so clear it feels as if there’s no visual impedence feels just as wrong.
  21. I can accept cockpit weathering effects if can understand how the wear/damage may have occurred. Too often it appears far too extreme and random. Maddox IL2 had some cockpits that looked like they belonged to 50 year old mining equipment. The other issue I have is that mostly WW2 aircraft were quite new comparatively. I understand there are questions reading the durability of 40s finishes but even so these aircraft were months old rather than a B52 or A10 that are 40 or more years old.
  22. The I-16 model 24 we have is a late 1939 model SCW I-16s were model 10 or earlier, so less power and 2 mgs. Same for the SCW Bf-109 A to early E. Although an original Condor legion E3 does exist, I think it’s the earliest surviving 109. Outside these two the SCW has an eclectic mix of 1930s Russian, Italian and German aircraft. These are pretty much all extinct so references would be a huge problem.
  23. From a British point of view Tempest V and Typhoon would be absolutely fantastic. Detail about the Sabre seems scant though, Nick Grey also mentioned this being a problem suggesting a Centaurus Tempest II was more likely. I assume ED would have to commit to wind tunnel CFD work also as they did with the P47. The Spit XIV would be good also, and probably far more likely. I still think early war provides the most balanced match ups. Hopefully ED will announce their BoB project, maybe we could have the BoF also.
  24. Is there a comparison with the size of the new incoming maps with the existing ones?
