One thing that does concern me is the fact that of the prop planes available for DCS Leatherneck’s offering, the CEII, has by far the least convincing flight model. Although I have to say this criticism doesn’t come from real world powered flight experience, just the feel of it and a comparison with the flight models of similar aircraft in DCS and other sims. Hopefully Leatherneck have used the CEII as a proof and concept and can move on from it, I think there was some suggestion that they may create a new FM for the CEII while they are making the F4U.

The community reaction to trying to land a Spitfire on a carrier would be something to behold I’m sure...

Yes, I find myself rolling to break and looking over my shoulder every time it happens...

Request: Generic, multiplayer-suitable paintschemes

UK FAA skins would be great, and make a lot of sense. -
DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Mogster replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Agreed, You seem to misunderstand my post. But you just know there’s going to be endless posts because the FB Mosquito is “useless” because it doesn’t do 400+ mph at 20k. -
You’d really think variants of existing WW2 planes would make for easy cash for the developer. ED have already said that WW2 planes sell well and are more profitable, man hrs to return, than modern stuff.

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Mogster replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Apparently the FB variants were slower than the PR and B variants. Not that 360mph was exactly slow. FBs were heavier as the structure was reinforced to withstand hard manoeuvring, draggy as they had external pylons for bombs and gas and the flat fighter windscreen. The FBs all had single stage Merlins as well I think, there were never enough multi stage Merlins to go round. Small changes could lose a lot of speed the NF variants lost 20mph by being painted with a certain type of black paint. The prototype Mosquito re-engined with 2 stage Merlins was good for nearly 440mph. Incredible performance for 1942. -
Yes it would be great to have the gun pods for completeness, the handling difficulties would need to be modelled also. They seem to have been universally hated by pilots. With them fitted you needed your own escort...

I’m seeing this as well.

Yes, although it would be a big map, the Mosquito FB VI is coming. The FAA attacked German naval assets in the area also, the F4U is coming. It would be nice different terrain for Cold War, modern scenarios also. Similar to the old EF2000 map.

Thought I’d post this here as expected performance of different variants keeps coming up. http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mosquito/mosquito.html Report for FB MKVI http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mosquito/hx809.pdf

if everything is modelled accurately it does look like there’s a lot to keep on top of in the cockpit.

Flying the F4U article, although a later model. https://www.pilotweb.aero/features/flight-tests/corsair-flight-test-1-6298765

Nice film. I find it amazing just how large and tall the F4U is compared to a Spitfire for instance. The thing is absolutely enormous.

That’s the thing about BOB scenarios, you can created realistic missions with a relatively small plan set. Hurri, Spit MK1, He111, Ju87, Me109E, Me110.

Imagine taking off in a force 8 from a deck pitching 20 feet, waves breaking over the flight deck in the troughs. Your Swordfish struggling into the air carrying a 1600lb torpedo, tossed around by the wind, searching for the Bismarck through gaps in the clouds, rain squalls battering against the windshield...

I’d imagine the Zero is probably one of the few Japanese WW2 planes with decent references. Apparently there is a Zero and a Ki43 Oscar at Duxford although neither are in restored condition.

It’d be great to have the Yak 52 complete. Flying it reminds me of the IL2.

Yes. People tend to demand late war aircraft and the fastest variants to boot, even if they were as rare as hens teeth. Battle of France/BoB would be good. Quite self contained and you can make realistic scenarios with only a few aircraft and a small map. Of course we have a suitable map already, albeit without London.

It’s interesting the article refers to “towing” small aircraft with the KC boom once attached. In DCS it seems you detach with the slightest wrong movement.

Flight Model Characteristics - Will I be disappointed?
Mogster replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Exactly. There’s a video online of a Czech Mi24 at UK RIAT, it’s very impressive and the thing has serious stage presence, but clearly this isn’t a nimble aircraft, mostly the manoeuvres performed are fast straight passes similar to a fixed wing. Anyone expecting agility, and there will be many, are going to be very very disappointed... -
Douglas A-26 Invader/B-26K Counter-Invader
Mogster replied to VFMFlyer's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yes. It wouldn’t be my first choice for WW2 but it does fit late war scenarios so it’s OK. As you say it could also be used for Korea, Vietnam which adds value. I’m no sure how different the WW2 and Korea, Vietnam B26s were though. -
Training missions are confusing with bugs and inconsistencies
Mogster replied to imacken's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Agreed. New users can be paying $80 for A10C II, the training missions should work. The training missions are really important, so much more fun and accessible than reading the manual and they are probably the first thing a new user will look for when the fire up the sim.
