  1. That’s not necessarily the case though. Games like iRacing, ACC, Elite dangerous and Eve are predominantly online so have no traditional mod support. All that’s required is for the devs to release good new content to keep players interested, and paying... I think the flight sim genre just has a history of abandonware, F4, FS, IL2 BOB, where the baton has been carried by modders. As content becomes more complex it’s becoming much more difficult for someone to create high quality stuff in their free time, competing with pro dev team content is very time consuming and frequently will only happen when the end product becomes payware as an incentive.
  2. I thought Belsimtek updated the FC3 aircraft to PFM FMs a while back. The A10A was given the A10C PFM iirc.

Yeah, bring it on Mr Octopus. There’s a lot of fun stuff that could be done with it, even basic weapons load outs and a float plane version. There’s still loads of these knocking about.
  4. WW2 B17? 4th generation Russian jet, Mig 29? Su27?. The B17 was mentioned in the DCS WW2 Kickstarter and would be a milestone and hugely complex. I can’t think of anything that’s been talked about, at all possible and modern that fits those criteria. If they have access to the data to make a study level Russian 4th gen jet that would fit, but I thought that due to Russian government restrictions that was impossible?
  5. ED are making their own Hawk :)
  6. I would strongly advocate self building. It really isn’t hard and you get exactly what you want, with the added bonus that you’ll be more confident fixing it if it goes wrong in the future and upgrading as you wish. If you do decide to self build go for a very large case. It makes the build easier and less nerve wracking, from experience trying to jam stuff into tiny spaces is the best way to break things... in a large case you can install the best cooling for reliability and make the thing run much quieter if that’s important to you.
  7. I see you have the FA18 but the A10C is a really good to start out as there’s a wealth of “blow things up” tutorials online and the module is usually cheap and it’s feature mature. Personally I’ve used this one as a refresher for the A10 several times. https://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3171145/how-to-use-weapons-picture-guide-gbu-12-gbu-38-agm-65-and-grs-to-cdu-r
  8. Couldn't you defend against this be giving your vehicle a highly reflective surface?
  9. I think the advantage of WW1 aircraft from a marketing standpoint is that planes like the Camel and DR1 are household names. Everyone's heard of the Spifire and BF109 the same goes for the Sopwith Camel and the DR1 Triplane. I think DCS versions of the well known WW1 planes would sell very well.
  10. Peter Jackson has several...
  11. This :)
  12. Interesting. I would really like to fly a DCS SE5a, it seems from the ROF dev's that the SE5a has probably the best historical references of any WW1 era plane. As Gavagi says it's also worth being aware of the data problems 777 have had, WW1 flight data (if it exists) seems to be a nightmare to interpret. I do think WW1 era planes are attractive to the casual player, the systems are so basic they're almost pick up and play.
  13. I ticked both, I see no reason why DCSW shouldn't expand into civilian aircraft. It wouldn't be ED making the maps and aircraft. OK the 3rd party developers will require some supervision but in the end I don't see how more available high quality content can be a negative for ED and the community. FSX is seriously last gen now, Prepar 3D doesn't see to be a great step forward.
  14. References for Japanese planes can be hard to come by, I suspect that would make historical cockpit and systems modelling difficult. Lots of documents were destroyed in 1945 when the allied invasion of Japan looked imminent.
  15. Yes what's needed is a bomber sim with Silent Hunter style squad management. As you say B17 M8th tried it but unfortunately the project got too big and it as never finished. You need some gameplay surrounding heavy bombers to make them sufficiently interesting long term imo. I've been in love with the Lanc since I was tiny and I'd love to see a DCS Lancaster but in truth with DCS world as it is how often would I fly it??? Maybe with upkeep mines and a map of the Ruhr... Maybe with Talboy bombs, some battleships and a map of Norway....
  16. It is a goer. http://www.thanetgazette.co.uk/Tom-Hanks-Steven-Spielberg-heading-Manston/story-23027074-detail/story.html http://reelbrief.com/?p=1144 Apparently it's still in the early pre production stage. Researchers have been interviewing some of the remaining veterans. Don't expect it to air before 2016, more likely 2017.
  17. Maybe its the perspective, maybe the pilot is a very large guy but the cockpit looks tiny.
  18. Awesome, a Spitfire with proper round wings :)
  19. Hopefully Normandy will be just a taster :) I'm happy to pay for high quality maps. The DCS warbirds DESPERATELY need period maps and locations to fly over.
  20. It always surprises me when I've had the chance to see an original WW2 aircraft up close how rough the finish and fit is compared to a modern plane. These aircraft were being produced before modern methods of standardised mass production, I'd suggest that there were probably slight differences between batches. I'd think the differences were probably even greater when different manufacturing plants were involved. Just saying :)
  21. Going to be awesome seeing these two on the airshow circuit for the next couple of months. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2720624/Tour-duty-Bomber-Command-veterans-turn-salute-Canadian-Lancaster-visiting-UK-remember-friends-didnt-make-it.html
  22. A re-install has solved the problem. If I had to guess I'd say Bitdefender blocked the new exe file versions at the last update. I've not used DCSW much recently due to boring real life stuff, the problem may have occurred a while ago.
  23. I've no other DCS_updater file it seems.
  24. Win7 64, I5 2500K, GTX780 3GB, 8Gig ram I do wonder if its some sort of antivirus issue, Bitdefender, maybe it blocked some files last update???
  25. Bought F86, trying to update from version 1.26. DCSW is running fine but I'm not getting a prompt to update when I run it. When I try to run autoupdate manually (as admin) I get an incompatible file error. "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running....." If I try to run repair manually I get. "Windows cannot find 'F:\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe......" There is a version of that file in \bin\ but maybe its the wrong version. Any ideas???????? DCSW was working fine up to this point.
