[help] create a 3DSMAX model then rotate for align axis
OldCrow replied to fulcrum251's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
hello, Its possible to rotate the model after creating it, no problem. I have done this a cuple of times and it worked like a charm. The X-axis should be pointing towards the nose of the plane, and the Z-axis from bottom to top. You have to rotate the whole model, so changing the pivot point wont help. Origo will act like Center of Gravity on your model. Also to be on the safe side, check if your unit setup is set to 1 unit = 1 meters. Good luck! -
Very nice video, and very good skill!:) Looking forward to see you next VFAT!

Currently we are working on getting all parts mapped, aswell as correcting some small mapping mistakes. We are also making some more skins. When we have finished this, it shouldn't be long before you guys can cruise around in your own aerobatic F-5E:thumbup:

If asigning a material to the parts doesnt work you could try to export the parts with the problems to .3ds and then import them back into 3dsmax

Cool video! Very intense, and very nicely done! Thanx!

New Video of "Blue Toads" Su-25 Virtual Aerobatic Teams
OldCrow replied to Fox511's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Very nice video! And some high precision flying! -
hello, the radar disc on the E-3 is modeled in the model of the aircraft I believe, so to have a kc or rc 135, you'd have to make a new model. Im not very familiar with the model of these aircraft, for all I know there could already be a E-3 aircraft in LockOn. If not you'd have to build one from scratch or find a free model somewhere.

This looks amazing guys! Nice detail with crew members on the deck! Keep it up!

hotray: Hello, we might be able to change the model a bit at a later stage, it depends on how big changes u want. But for now we will release the model as it is:smilewink:

Yes, I see what you mean. The canopy color will be changed and can also be changed to what you prefer yourself once the model is released. I believe Shaggy has made a more realistic one that is more blue toned. We do apprechiate constructive critic about the model, but not like comparing models to eachother. That just tells me we should not finish the aircraft cause there are a better one somewhere. I know Majesco didnt mean it like that, it was just my initial thought. And the Mitch model have not had any updates in months, maybee he will get more motivation to complete it after this post, and that would be great! Then there would be two F-5's to choose from, one aerobatic and one combat version!

To the shine effect, we simply try to have this effect cause it makes the plane look more realistic and the plane comes more alive with a shiny texture then a dull flat one:D. Take a look at this pic for real world refrance: http://www1.airpics.com/showimg.php?imgid=118200

I have done something similar before, I got a 3d model and prepared it for lockon. And if you know what you are doing you could probably be finished in a month or so. I think the unwraping is the most difficult part and it takes most of the time too. Animations is not that hard, just to get all the pivots in the right position and have a table of all arguments and start animating. The scale is probably the easiest part. But it all takes time ofcorse.

Looks great!! Just thought I'd post a tip of mapping the inside of the tubes. If you just put a sylindrical map on it it should be good, like a UVW Map and select sylindrical, and then set the heigt with and lenght to the same as u used for the other mapping. If you dont know what you used, just put in a big number. Then select unwrap and place it somewhere on the texture. If you are lucky u should be able to save the map and just use it on the other ones so you dont have to map each one seperately.

OldCrow replied to shaggy's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
We've encountered some small problems, including a hardrive crash, so we have to sort things out a bit now, but the model is thankfully not lost, so we're soon back in business:thumbup: -

How i can put the skin from a new model to LOMAC
OldCrow replied to Presidio's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
If u have mapped your aircraft, u just put the texture files in the temptexture folder in lockon. If not, u will have to map your aircraft first. If u need help with anything, give me a pm, and I'll be glad to help you:thumbup: -

We have encountered some small problems, they are being fixed as we speak. The release will be very soon, we hope and think we'll be able to release it this weekend:thumbup: -
Hey, heres a great tutorial of how to unwrap your model. Its the method 2 on the page. I use this method myself, and it works great! Method 1 doesnt work in lockon I think, but havent tested it. http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/skyraider/tut_advtexmap.htm
