Ok I made another short video demonstrating my latest sounds. Here is the download to the exact version used in the video: version 2.2 It uses a different afterburner sound than the previous version, because I liked it better but when I listen to sounds for extended periods I reach a point where I have problems deciding which is better. My judgement will return in a few days or weeks when my ears have rested. For now I have put up both and then later decide later which is going to stay. And yes, I stall the engine at the end of the video :) That is because I flew the plane entirely from outside view.

Ok, back from vacation and I now make a more advanced version of the Mig-21 sounds publicly available. It adds more sounds which I have not completely decyphered (with the Mig-21 modding is largely try and error) but they do generate the fuller sound that I want, while retaining the engine whine that I introduced. And I also tried to adjust the pitch to recordings of real Mig-21 engines, but nowhere does this represent a realism mod, more a collection of samples that somehow fit. preliminary download of version 2.1 With this mod the Mig-21 gets pretty noisy and exposure over long period may not be the best for your ears ... this is a feature not a bug ;) So turn down the volume and get back inside the cabin if you can. And let me know what you think or if there is something more you want me to do. Hopefully get round to making another preview video. P.S. It can simply be installed with JSGME, you dont need to create any folders or something, just extract and make sure the file is not within the extra subfolder that unpacking creates.

I also noticed that the Mig-21 can't do half loops. It goes into the vertical and then seems to just stay there. Seems to be something that the long deltawinged fuselage is simple not meant for. I don't know if I understand you but if the pilot followed you through an inverted loop he may simply not have his plane very well.

I only replaces three files. Su25BackEngine.wav is the engine and is the most audible, Su25AroundEngine.wav is the afterburner for some reason, and Su25FrontEngine.wav should be used when front of the plane. Of course that overwrites the sounds for the Su25 as well, there is nothing that can be done about that. It's very hard to say what is hard coded and what not because such information is only obtained by trial and error.

Here is a short video I made, it was recorded with the last version of all my accumulated changes. I tried to replace the jet sound with a real jet engine and proper afterburner kicking in, as well as reverberations and wind, as best as the limited 3 files allow. It's not perfect, but whoever wants a link to a copy can just send me a PM.

Sarcasm fail. I did not rip the steering wheel out, I only clicked one checkbox in the game that's all.

Yes, great update. The game will get stuck in a loading screen when I disable the TF-51 and it has overwritten all my control mappings.

1.5.5 stucked in loading screen

It hangs every time. I have already downgraded to 1.5.4 and will make the update a second time tonight, -
1.5.5 stucked in loading screen

Mine hangs at the load mission screen. -
Yes, that was only the first question. I tried various files and the sound seems too detached from what is going on. It first gets louder and then when the engine revs up, it gets quieter again. No matter what I do my brain refuses to connect the audio and the airplane I see. It's like everything goes through a filter. I give up.

Anyway I found the files that the Mig-21 uses. It's the Su25BackEngine.wav Su25FrontEngine.wav under \Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines\ Possibly Su25AroundEngine.wav. There may be other files involved but those two have the biggest impact. That means the Mig-21 shares sounds with the Su25, which makes some sense as they use Tumanski engines. Just wanted to share this in case someone wants a quick solution as I did, and hope this can be improved in the future.

No I haven't. What do you mean exactly? This was more a question of software capabilities. Mig-21 download has a lot of sound files not used, so it should be obvious why people question this design.

What I meant is there is something really weird going on with this module. I tried to change the file EngineJet.way and no matter what I put there I never get another sound to play in the sim, nor do I have any indication where the engine sounds come from. Sometimes people store such data in dlls so its possible that the sound is entirely unmoddable. Diveplane has not updated his youtube channel in 4 months either, so it's possible that he runs into the same problems. I am quite new here but I get the impression that as the mod was initially developed by Novak/Beczl and the latter left the project. So a lot of code may lie in an abandoned state where the module is working but no one can change it, at least not without huge efforts. That is to say I have the impression that the Mig-21 module is mostly there as the first attempt of a third party developer module, and that so much had to be learned along the way that the module will never realistically achieve the features of the later generation of modules. Anyway, I love the Mig-21 but I dont think I will fly it a lot with these hairdryer sounds when I have for example the Mig-15 that sounds as real as it gets. Another 45€ down the toilet for me, hopefully it will be used for further development.

Even EngineJet.wav seems not to work. I am beginning to suspect that the sound file is inside some dll. Anyway, I have seen a video in which diveplane11 shows a coming sound mod. If somebody could give me a hint which file to use I would be glad, PM is enough.

I think it would be childish to argue if it can't be done it can't be done. Probably that's something about the way the module came into being. But what can be done right now? I try to play around with the EngineGE.wav EngineJet.wav. If we had the names of sounds used we could at least change something. Am I right to assume that the Mig-21 uses some files from Sounds/Effects/Aircraft/Engines but not all, and I have to find out which?
-
Uh ok, so it's by design? It's a shame though I really like the module
-
You can't change it? Perhaps ask somebody who can, for example the Belsimtek Mig-15 seems to have no such problem.
-
What I dont understand is why the files are included but not used. There are a bunch of sound files in the Mig21 sound folder that all seem to have but one effect, to confuse us :) I spent nearly a whole day trying to change the sounds. What I eventually found out is that EngineGE.wav EngineJet.wav in \Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines\ is used Since these are samples that combine several sounds into one there is not much point in changing them, and that's maybe the reason why the module sounds so bad (i.e. always the same). It's practically impossible to come from the Mig-15 with diveplane11s Klimov sound and not feel underwhelmed.

Yes, almost a little too much for a flight sim. But I love that screenshot with the whole transport column.

Instrument "Backlight" doesn't work.

Seems to be exactly the same problem I just had. If you turn them to 100% they burned through :) -
I cannot switch on the cockpit light
Burning Bridges replied to Burning Bridges's topic in DCS: MiG-15bis
I didn't know that they blew! :megalol: The lights went on sometimes and then out again after a few seconds. I thought this was a glitch or something Of course they were turned to the maximum every time. :joystick: Thanks, I think this gives me a good idea what to do differently next time!!! -
Even with the manual from page 157++, I don't manage switch on any of cockpit light systems. I turned the UV light knobs up etc and tried the switches. Can somebody give me a quick rundown what do I have to do?

Another Mig 15 pilot reporting. I liked the Mig since Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, where it was a formidable bomber destroyer, and it was a perfect choice for me in DCS to just fly and enjoy the game. I just think they could have made some air to ground rocket, nothing fancy but I know they were used. But otherwise this plane looks, flies (and with the Klimov mod also sounds) perfect.
