  1. I actually get the plane airborne now 50% of the time. My problems were a lot about wrongly assigned controls* the "takeoff assistance" making everything worse. There was way to much input on my side and if I only do the slightest corrections, it gets a bit better. (*things like the analog wheel brake axis working completely differently than I thought)
  2. It's the first day I really tried, a few times I could actually get off the ground but it's getting frustrating. I dont know how I need to practice because the aircraft becomes airborne at 100 km/h or so and then stalls. If I knew how to keep it on the runway a little more it would be easy. Thanks a lot !! .. if you knew how long I have looked for this "Page Up Page Down" - everyone kept telling to take manual control of the propellor but no one said how.
  3. I just got Normandy and I can only contribute what I have found from experimentation in the last two days. What I saw in terms of (micro)stutters over cities and forest was actually related to AntiAliasing and can be easily cured by running lower settings. I have i7 4790K 16GB DDR3 CL8 - GTX1070 8GB OC and a cheap Sandisk SSD. The game runs at solid 60fps with 8x AA for me most of the time BUT when I fly low (treetop level) over Caen the stutters can be reproduced, and even though they just dip into 50 the sensation of flight is already ruined. I have AA now on 2x and even in those drastic situations over cities the frames remain solid 60fps. May be just me but that way I try to make sure that I have enough in reserve for when things get hot, and can not just barely run the sim with eye candy until something happens. Today I already had a lot of crashes even from the Mission Editor, hard to say if this is normal or related to me Alt-Tabbing a lot or a sign that the sim has a problem. Just wanted to say that it does crash way more often than I would like and in fact 1.5 never crashed on me.
  4. :) I would love the I-16, an extremely enjoyable to fly airplane, and over Caucasus it makes kind of sense, if I can just imagine it is 1941. Normandy is a big project and you can certainly not change priority because someone made the wrong module.
  5. I think part of the problem is that there can also be too many airplanes. I don't know how much you are willing to spend but I would normally want to fly and enjoy every single plane for at least 50 hours, and possible much more. We are still far from that point but there could also be oversaturation where people just don't buy planes they normally would, and for me this sim has always been more about quality than quantity. In this sense this is also a one-plane-for-each-type approach. Having both the Bf109 and Fw190 is already pushing that but you get the picture. For example I for one would absolutely love a Fw190A, but then I can see how there is a risk this only halves the sale of both modules. With the P51, 2 German fighters and a Spitfire the roster may not be deep but it is already quite broad. A P47 is apparently in the works. A Corsair has also been rumored. Add to that maybe a Russian, Japanese and Italian fighter and you have at least 1 plane for everyone. Too many choices does not make people happy anyway, for example many people do not like the Bf109 at first but if they really want to fly a German fighter they would have to fly a Messerschmitt and many will eventually fall in love with it. Instead of having dozens of fighters it would really make more sense to me to have less planes but more different roles. There should be a two engined plane, ideally a Mosquito. Or pre war or training planes (Bf108 or Fi156 would be sweet), a biplane (could be Swordfish or C.R.42) etc. Tbh I dont worry about the price nor the availability right now, what I worry more about would be a lot of half assed planes that sit on my hard disk and are never used. I am very careful with my purchases and so far very happy with my choices (The 109 and the Mig15 are both excellent modules, only the Mig 21 is causing me a bit of consternation).
  6. Eh where can we download this mod? The linls are all dead.
  7. I am not sure this is the exact same thing though. Is there a window "DCS is no longer responding" (which I dont know the exact text because I am on German Windows) or does it just freeze requiring you to Alt Tab and kill with the taskmanager? I can also report that the error has not come back so my suspicion it happens at the borders of the Nevada map, as this is where I was flying at the time of the crashes. And off topic .. I see you have a M2 960 EVO, since I am myself thinking about that too, did it improve your DCS mini stuttering and external views or is it the same as a normal SATA SSD?? Really curious to hear that because of the price difference.
  8. Yes, this is the best version so far. I tried around a lot and I still chuckle about the VERY LOUD versions that your ear specialist hates, but it is now on a level that it mostly just needs refinement. P.S. Keep in mind though that this is external only, the internal sound is untouched and has always been completely fine imo.
  9. Ah, ok I guess I stick with NTTR for the time being. That way also maximizing my investment as it had been sitting unused on my HD for a year. Btw I had three crashes in NTTR too (DCS.exe does not respond) and in rather quick succession (20 min) with different planes. But since I generated new missions, verified DCS installation and installed the latest Nvidia driver it has not occured again in many hours. But I can already see people going from "when is 2.5 released" to "when are the 2.5 bugs fixed" right away :)
  10. You could try it and let me know, because tbh I don't have a clue what you are asking :)
  11. From my own experience with DCS and tuning performance in the last couple if days, my recommendation about DSR is not to use it. The UI problems are already obvious, and the blurry text spoils my party but I would probably take that if the flight graphics benefitted a lot. But I also found that DSR provides a sort of AntiAliasing, I found it actually swallows up the details on a really good looking aircraft. This is of course a fine tuned process and every hardware/driver combo is different. But on mine, the best results by far are the inbuilt DCS AA and AF (8x 16x without performance hit), and Nvidia panel set to use application settings in everything. The option to disable AA/AF in DCS and force it through Nvidia resulting in higher fps but totally borked AA - not recommenced As the third option, DSR allows me to run without AA at all. As I could also run the highest 4x DSR, it would give a highly homogenous, artifact free picture (which is great) but all sharpness of details is lost. This may be only apparent when you have found a setting where AA really works and use skins on the aircraft that looks like you can touch it. And those aircraft looked blurry as on a console with DSR.
  12. Games not only load sequential data, and sims even less. I presume there is an awful lot going on when DCS loads a mission, representing 25 years of software development, it is more akin to launching an operating system Speaking of which, if have installed your OS on a SSD and launch it for the very first time, and your jaw does not drop a bit, I am surprised what is going on. I dunno. maybe you SSD is simply shit or you have not hooked it up to a channel that is using its full potential?
  13. Really nice repaint, too bad I can't use it. This is how it currently looks in 2.1
  14. Hi strut! I have downloaded your skin and use it currently on all my flights. It makes the surface of the Kurfürst look like I can touch it. Great job and thanks 1000 times!!
  15. I spent the evening tuning the remaining microstutters flying low over Las Vegas. It turned out in my case the only problem was civilian traffic. I had it on high and while the game ran great, flight over Las Vegas brought some micro stutters to the fore. When I set civ. traffic to medium the other settings can remain high - visibility high, 8x AA, 16x AF, fps is almost stuck at 60 (vsync) only over the most critical areas (downtown Las Vegas) it sometimes drops to 55. Since the big issue seems to be loading of terrain and not graphics quality, one remaining thing is that I still wonder wether I would gain additionally from an M2 SSD. I currently run from a SATA SSD, which is fine but it's not the fastest one. So as I am now pressed to buy a new SSD anyways (its getting too cramped), I am torn between another 512GB SATA or 256 M2 (at least while the prices don't move).
  16. I would be interested to hear if you like it and also if not. And then why not. The last versions have been more evolutionary than revolutionary as I am mostly happy with it. Especially the afterburner is now powerful as it should be.
  17. Hello, just wanted to chime in and say: I have both the MiG 15 and 21 and looking forward to this greatly! Just as with any potential future MiG 23 and 29 .. I'm a big MiG lover. So far the 15 wins hands down as a module and the 21 in sexiness. Hoping the 19 can bring both ;)
  18. Ah, this should be redone for Normandy. I flew several of the Mig 15 missions and it was a great concept.
  19. So many replies not 1 mission :(
  20. Here is another daily build, and it shows some real improvement. I balanced the loudness from all angles and found a Mig frontengine sound in the DCS folder that sounds right. download: Mig21 Sound 5.2E
  21. I keep improving this during my own flying. From the last version I did not find much I want to change, except the front engine sound which was still "funny". I tried around and found that until a better sample is found, there is nothing wrong with the default sound, so this version is the last one but with the default front sound (Su25FrontEngine) Personally I like this better because it is unobtrusive from the front and blends in with the other sounds. But a new sample could of course be discovered that is more spectacular. download version 5.2B
  22. Spectacular, would be even greater with Merlin sound imo, piano music is more fitting to a sailplane.
  23. Can somebody give me a hint how to increase the text size in the game? It looks amazing with DSR but the text becomes totally unreadable, and that is with and without "UI Scaling" (I assume this is something else entirely)
  24. I have not posted anything new for a long time, but just got back into the sim and made another version of my sound mod for our favorite jet. The sdefs in the old version were useless and I will completely start on new sdefs from scratch. The samples themselves remain exactly the same, and I must say as I now have new more expensive headphones, they are pretty good. The afterburner feels way better and louder and the rest is the cleanest version I could come up with so far. It has practically everything I wanted: spool whine - but not too much, wind sound like i would expect in a jet airplane and not a hairdrier, a good feeling of the engine spooling up, a roaring afterburner, powerful flyby boom, and so far I've noticed no loops or bangs. Only spatial sound is unchanged because I suck at sdef editing and could use some help here. download version 5.1A Due to the restrictions this will always be a work in progress but it has reached a point now where I can actually enjoy flying this bird and stop tinkering. Please let me know what you think, if you notice problems and wether I should think about a release version and put it in the user files.
  25. Yeah I checked it out. Dont use the sdefs! If you leave them where they are now, they are no danger but if you place them in the sound folder they make everything sound completely wrong. The gist is that when my changes had no effects I messed up a lot of settings. The good news is that there is still hope that the setting may be used to the effects described. Like for example make the afterburner sound louder without changing the around sound. I hope I will be able to fix this problem with the sdefs sometime in January .. right now this mod is incomplete and only contains some new wav files.
