  1. The problems are understood but making people wait for nothing will have negative consequences for everyone. It's a bit like telling children you go to the amusement park and then constantly at the last minute telling them it has been called off. In the future it would be better to give no exact date if it cannot be guaranteed.
  2. I know but it didn't work because I did not have the QR Code. But fortunately I found my installation of Winauth with a correct code, otherwise I would be locked out. I'm sure everyone except me has one of those at hand all the time.
  3. Where is this explained? I typed in the code from a screenshot and in winauth and it still doesn't work. How should a normal user be able to establish where the problem is?
  4. It happened again. I can't login to my profile to disable 2 stage because it asks me for a Verification code and I don't have one. I don't know why I am not getting a verficiation code. shouldnt it be sent to my email? P.S. I eventually found a solution but I a'm not pleased how it went
  5. Seems the devs lack the skill and foresight to not thing of one huge update and then fail to complete anything. Sometimes less would have been more. That could still be excused as inexperience. But if they later come back and say they were working on yet another map that is even bigger than the first that would be not cool at all. I say that because I am getting such vibes. Some people should not be allowed to decide what is being worked on and need supervision, otherwise they will never finish one thing and always just begin something different.
  6. For anyone who didn't see it, they have a product page with screenshots: https://orbxdirect.com/product/orbx-kola-dcs
  7. They should post here if they are serious about this. In the worst case it might be an external publishing deal like the MSFS Caribou, where it was later claimed they don't have a way to contact the developer.
  8. I think the effect I am fighting is that many sims look more like a scale model of Earth, with cubes draped on top and not like real things. Problems in color perceptiuon are a part of it, as are straight lines, repetitive patterns and disjointed methods to represent terrain, buildings, trees and water. The big problem is that there is a dropoff point where I begin to pay attention to the inaccuracy and it kills immersion. So anything that makes the colors on the whole appear more natural will helps. DCS seems to work better with brown, unpopulated maps, and green + buildings looks strange, so I am also a bit anxious as to how this will turn out. Fingers crossed. P.S. Can we edit the new color filters ourselves?
  9. I don't demand major updates but the map has many minor errors like wrong frequencies and the marker that should have been fixed within weeks, not a year They must have identified those for a long time and a fix sounds easy. You would expect a developer would want to fix it over the weekend so they can concentrate on the real work. But it's hard to understand how the creators seem to have all the time in the world and don't fix these slips of the pen first. It's as if they don't care that people don't have the optimal impression of their work.
  10. is this finally released?
  11. Did they say December and year or just December?
  12. when I write a TODO list I always begin with 1. write a TODO list after that I often hit an invisible wall, but it feels good to at least have something to do Now, if I think back to the gnomes in South Park I assume a good template for a fixing bugs TODO list could be: 1. make a bug list 2. ?? 3. profit!!
  13. Does adding something to the buglist result in any consequences?
  14. @OnReTech yes we will enter them
  15. Why? Saudi Arabia is just across from Sinai. When I was in Dahab people told me that occasionaly some wind surfer think he could surf over and visit the Saudi side (which is clearly visible.) It's actually a terrible idea and could take or a week or more until the Saudis let you go hiome. But that's not the point here. It is that Saudi Arabia is just a stones throw away from Sinai.
  16. I hope the update brings more variation to the cities and ground objects. I'm not getting my hopes up yet but some of the screenshots looked promising in that regard. And we need airports closer to the map borders otherwise a lot of nice area is underused. I hardly ever got further down than St.Catherine which is almost the center of the map.
  17. Actually there are many sound reasons why such a process cannot be done retroactively. Something that many people are not really aware of is that absolutely every 2D map uses a spherical projection. And the further you go away from the center of the map, the less the map matches with neighboring maps. That means in practical terms that for GPS makers and geodesists seeming maps together is an absolute nightmare. Of course this could be preempted by using identical spherical models but I guarantee you that the mathematical task is going to be absolutely massive. Also for a model of the whole planet you need a global tiling and loading mechanism which is able subdivide the surface in small tiles. Ideally would be a triangular subdivision, but since this plays so badly with bitmaps most developers went for orthogonal subdivision but this is horrible at the Poles. Which is the reason MSFS or X-Plane are so inaccurate or doesnt even have land around the Poles.
  18. The Sinai peninsula itself isn't flat.
  19. Something I do not see is a statement on fixing the various Navaids (ILS and VOR). Right now many frequencies seem to be simply entered wrong, do not work or are outside the range that can be dialed into radios. For example the Maliz VOR is on a localizer frequency, whereas the Abut Suwair ILS 119.7 Mhz is on a tower frequency. The way those errors exist almost everywhere make it seem as if they were just entered as placeholders. And yes it is a good map, just in sore need of ironging out bugs and polish.
  20. I just discovered the same problem. Littlenavmap doesnt have VOR at Melez anymore and the airfield has been closed. So maybe this one has become obsolete.
  21. It would be fantastic to have at least 1 airport for the bordering countries. Saudi Arabia is right across from Dahab/Sharm El Sheikh and imo should have an airfield. Jordania and perhaps Lybia would not hurt.
  22. I bought it yesterday and I mostly like it. So I think I'll share my opinion for anyone who is also on the fence. Imo in the current state this map has some very pronounced strengths and minuses, that's why user reviews will be all over the place. let's start with the pluses: -performance is great -lighting, especially nights/sunsets/sunrises are simply amazing. the best in DCS at this time and surpassing X-Plane or MSFS -the Sinai peninsula looks great (irl hasn't many features either except some green waterholes in the Wadis) minuses: -cities and water look lifeless -the map has been obviously machine generated for the most part. landuse polygons have been populated with a sort of "content fill". this may be the way to go for large map creation but one would hope for more variation (especially less tenements rising from the desert) .the green field textures look generic and not that great All in all at this point I give it a 7.5/10. If the problems can be ironed out, and some character added to the autogenerated features it could easily become the best map in DCS. For now it is imo worth the 40$ as it gives you a large, very interesting area to fly. But it also still has some way to go, and would be a shame if left as it is.
  23. Don't want to start another thread, but I got the F1 recently and feel very much the same way. I don't know what it is but it brought back the fun to flying for me. Obviously it looks and sounds fantastic from inside and outside, but somehow it also feels just right. The fact that comes with so many versions and also serves as preparation for the 2000 is an additional bonus. Well done Aerges!
  24. It's very difficult to create historic maps because you can't use geodata. A modern map would be relatively easy to create if you can buy data and then just add final touches. Whereas in any historic setting you'd had to do everything by hand. but at the speed DCS is moving Crimea is already semi historic, it's now 20 years old.
  25. I do not install it anymore but have gotten over it a long time ago. Like others said before, this was the first module developed externally, it was exciting when it came out and probably got a lot of folks into DCS. As to the state it is on now .. I would love if someone did a new Mig 21 new. But I'm not salty.
